Eldergays, Tell Me About Greta Scacchi
Eldergays, tell me about Greta Scacchi.
She was in quite a bit in the 1980's and 1990's, in hits such as Heat and Dust, White Mischief, Presumed Innocent, The Player, Jefferson in Paris, Emma, and Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny.
But by the year 2000 her career was practically over. What happened?

Turned down “Basic Instinct.” Had a kid with Vincent D’Onofrio who’s a hot mess. Fucked her cousin.
Screwed up an otherwise promising career due to her pussy.
Tale as old as time.

Men and women truly age differently.
Vincent D’Onofrio still looks good, even when he’s fat as shit playing Kingpin on “Daredevil.” Greta, meanwhile, is now an Italian Nona who looks like she’s smuggling a brisket in her girdle.
Vincent can still get 30-something pussy. She couldn’t get felt up by a blind Italian grandpa.
She should at least buy a treadmill and make an effort to look presentable. Currently, she’s a fat, elderly embarrassment.

She convincingly played such a vile, homewrecking bitch in “Presumed Innocent,” that the audience was actually happy when they learned Bonnie Bedillia’s character smashed her head in with a hammer. That’s how detestable the character was. Even though the men were really the problem - she fucked half the dopey cast- she just emanated narcissistic evil.
She would have actually been very interesting in “Basic Instinct.” But Sharon owned that role.

“Presumed Innocent” is mostly concerned with the stale, courtroom machinations of all the male characters when it’s really far more primal: An evil, feline viper vs. a clever and fed-up mama bear who was pushed one step too far.

R39, indeed she did. I spent the rest of the movie thinking she had to be the villain somehow, given her being famous, no way she would only have that minor role and screen time.

She's worked extensively in her career but she was a lot more interesting than the Hollywood femme fatale roles she was cast in. Polly Walker was very similar.
Look at her stage work - Ibsen, Strindberg, Shepard, Pinter, Coward, Schiller, Rattigan, Sondheim, Shakespeare, Chekov, Williams and Osborne. Any actor would kill to be able to do that range.
Leila George played the younger version of Cate Blanchett in Disclaimer. It was a small role but she was incredible in it. You knew what was coming but it was still a shock.

She had a witty anecdote about how, during her pre-movie-career modeling days, she was out in a New York restaurant one night with a bunch of other models. A group of Italian guys were discussing among themselves who would "take" which girl, not knowing that she was completely fluent in Italian (bilingual?) and understood every word they were saying. She described the other models as bimbos who were sitting around talking about their favorite mascara brands.

It's an Acorn original, so your options if you're in the US are either to get a 7-day free trial and cancel it before you're billed the monthly fee (you can do so through Acorn's website or via Amazon) or to check your local library. The second season is still exclusive to subscribers but the first can be streamed for free on some library-affiliated apps, like Hoopla, or borrowed on DVD.

The DL Icon Committee reviewed Greta’s recent application for permanent icon status. Unfortunately, it was denied due to turning down “Basic Instinct,” the lack of any exciting hits or bombs (we love both), a dearth of truly cunty public comments and behavior and, of course, the incest.
There will be a lunch for all nominees at Applebee’s hosted by our 2025 winner, Vicki Lawrence, which Greta is welcome to attend. Cash bar, of course.
Thank you for your interest, Greta.

R77: She starred in the above-mentioned "White Mischief" (1987), an old DL favorite with a great cast, including Charles Dance, John Hurt, Joss Ackland, Sarah Miles, Trevor Howard, Murray Head, Geraldine Chaplin, and Hugh Grant. Not enough to warrant icon status, I guess?
Her character, Diana, only had to disrobe for her elderly husband at night, who would, from his bed, sigh "You are exquisite." The film also has lots of quotable moments.

She was memorably good as Emma's former governess Mrs. Weston in the 1996 "Emma"--it's a tricky role, because she's Emma's substitute mother and just adores her, but though she sees her flaws (unlike Emma's father), she can never bring herself to mention them.

If I remember correctly, she didn't want kids, but Vincent D'Onofrio pressured her into having one. And pretty much once she had the kid (Leila George) d'onofrio split. She sounded bitter about that.
Maybe the kid is married to skeevy Sean Penn because she didn't have a positive male role model growing up and her mom probably didnt want her 🤔
