She Done a him Wrong has an amazing character Russian Rita, played by Rafaela Ottiano. Rita is essentially a pimp who seeks out vulnerable women and sends them to The Barbary Coast to become “classy dips and burglars”. Her best scene involves conflict with West’s character over the affections of Gilbert Roland’s character.
Russian Rita, wild with jealousy and the loss of her Diamond pin, pulls a knife from her garter to stab West’s character “Lady Lou”. Ottiano’s face has this sculptural quality, and her acting is very mannered, “dialed up”. It’s really cool to watch her steal a scene from West.
