“Star Trek” actor Anton Yelchin's parents still visit his grave nearly every day

In Variety's new profile of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery — the legendary resting place for many industry titans in Los Angeles — co-owner Tyler Cassity revealed that Yelchin's parents, Irina and Viktor, visit the actor's grave nearly every day, nine years after his tragic death at 27.

"I’ve never encountered a vigil like theirs," Cassity told the outlet.

The cemetery co-owner also revealed that the Star Trek actor's parents chose Hollywood forever as Yelchin's final resting place due to the life-size bronze statue made in his likeness they wanted erected in his honor. According to Variety, such statues have a starting price at $95,000, and Yelchin's family was told other local memorial parks wouldn't allow the statue on their grounds.

I expected his mother to be the babushka-wearing type.

Yeah, not quite.

I can't imagine anything worse in life than having to bury your child.

by Anonymousreply 2June 15, 2025 2:55 PM

I made a rather mean comment about his statue on an old thread - that’s it was Michael Jackson-esque.

But those poor parents. Their son was their reason for being.

by Anonymousreply 3June 15, 2025 2:57 PM

Funny. I remember when he died, and how, and how I talked my dentist - the one who was generous with pain meds - out of leasing the same kind of Grand Cherokee that rolled backwards and crushed Yelchin.

by Anonymousreply 4June 15, 2025 2:59 PM

Russians just LOVE living in Los Angeles.

by Anonymousreply 5June 15, 2025 2:59 PM

It’s been nine years? Time is going faster. He seemed like a sweet kid. It shouldn’t have happened.

by Anonymousreply 6June 15, 2025 3:00 PM

He was such a talented actor and that was such a freak accident - on par with a bee flying into your mouth while cheering on a team at a polo match.

by Anonymousreply 7June 15, 2025 3:09 PM

Or skiing into a tree

by Anonymousreply 8June 15, 2025 3:12 PM

Are his parents Putin supporters?

by Anonymousreply 9June 15, 2025 3:19 PM

Just watched him in a gem of a movie called 5 to 7 on cable and he was really wonderful as was the film itself.

by Anonymousreply 10June 15, 2025 3:21 PM

Anton was sexy as fuck.

Loved him in Star Trek.

Loved him in the Fright Night remake.

He would have had a long and amazing career.

What a double whammy to lose your son AND be Russian in LA right now.

by Anonymousreply 13June 15, 2025 3:28 PM

Well if they paid 95 grand for his statue and whatever else they poaid for that gravesite, they might as well get their money's worth.

by Anonymousreply 14June 15, 2025 3:29 PM

Is this not the most FUCKED UP way an actor has been killed? Not an OD, not a plane crash or freak robbery at a grocery store but crushed by his own car? That ain't right.

by Anonymousreply 15June 15, 2025 3:31 PM

Is he buried at Forest Lawn in Glendale where all the other fucking ex-Soviets are buried?

by Anonymousreply 16June 15, 2025 3:31 PM

How much do you want to bet that his parents are Trump voters?

by Anonymousreply 17June 15, 2025 3:35 PM

Does the statue print $$$$?

by Anonymousreply 18June 15, 2025 3:39 PM

Enjoy voting for Trump and having your son run over by his own car. Cunts!

by Anonymousreply 21June 15, 2025 4:09 PM

R20, I am surprised. Usually the Russians are so cheap -- and on Section 8 -- that they can't afford the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Maybe they got a deal?

by Anonymousreply 22June 15, 2025 4:11 PM

^^^^People do not comprehend what they read^^^ R20

Especially Gays.

by Anonymousreply 23June 15, 2025 4:13 PM

Hey Philly asshole, R23. What part of cheap Russian don't you understand?

Stay in your lane and your city.

by Anonymousreply 24June 15, 2025 4:14 PM

Yo Douchebag, go back to ur own country. That's why u people have paupers cemetery.

My driver drives where he wants just like my Uber driver.

by Anonymousreply 25June 15, 2025 4:21 PM

How strange… I was just recommended Dean Koontz books to my husband and so he bought the first Odd Thomas book and we rewatched the movie last night.

by Anonymousreply 26June 15, 2025 4:23 PM

It’s ridiculous and doesn’t look like him.

by Anonymousreply 28June 15, 2025 4:26 PM

Stop calling people assholes while you’re being one. It’s a bad look. The parents aren’t cheap. I’m guessing they’re richer than all of us. Their kid is dead thanks to a faulty Jeep/Chrysler/Mercedes/Stellantis (multiple corporate owners) transmission that slipped out of Park. Their son was young, successful, and doubtless worth millions thanks to the settlement that paid for the creepy statue and the big-buck burial site and her convict haircut.

by Anonymousreply 29June 15, 2025 4:28 PM

"03*11*89 - FOREVER..." The boy is eternal.

by Anonymousreply 30June 15, 2025 4:34 PM

Anton had a face like a cherub.

He looked like the model for one of those ancient Greek or Roman statues.

Just angelic.

It’s pretty messed up for EW to pull the material about this poor kid and his parents out of the context of the broader article in Variety. The cemetery owner shouldn’t have mentioned the parents’ style of grieving, but it’s sort of forgivable as an offhand comment he didn’t think through.

I initially assumed the parents were making an effort to publicize their son even after his death. Which I’d try not to judge, but would be sad and seem sort of dysfunctional. But, no. They just visit their son’s grave as part of their routine. And, yeah, they put up a statue. So what?

by Anonymousreply 32June 15, 2025 4:37 PM

R25, you're better off sticking to your motherfucking cheesesteaks or Rocky statues or whatever the fuck, exactly, your stupid provincial city is known for.

You don't know shit about LA and I've been here on DL a LOT longer than you ever have. Watch out.

by Anonymousreply 33June 15, 2025 4:42 PM

His parents were first-generation Russian Jews, who immigrated from Leningrad in 1989, so very likely no.

Still grieving, Anton Yelchin’s parents try to move forward with new documentary

Viktor and Irina Yelchin stand in front of an image of their late son, whose Studio City home they now live in. (Mel Melcon / Los Angeles Times)

Anton Yelchin’s parents live where their son died. After his sudden death nearly three years ago, Viktor and Irina Yelchin couldn’t bear the thought of selling Anton’s home. He’d been obsessed with the place in Studio City, planting himself on his recliner sofa most nights with a bowl of pretzels, his Brussels Griffon, Elvis, and a stack of movies to watch until 3 in the morning.

So even though it was in the driveway that his Jeep malfunctioned in 2016, rolling downhill and pinning him against a gate, this is where his parents felt they had to be.

“It’s difficult, but we feel his presence,” said Viktor, sitting on his son’s favorite leather sofa last week as the rain pattered on the roof. “We’re closer to him, even if it’s very hard.”

“It’s hard to walk there,” Irina said, her voice breaking as she motioned toward the driveway. “It’s hard to live. But we are. So we have to do something while we’re here.”

The couple have already done a number of things in tribute to their son, an actor who amassed close to 70 film and TV credits — ranging from the most recent “Star Trek” reboots to “Hearts in Atlantis” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” — before his death at the age of 27. They erected a statue in his likeness at Hollywood Forever cemetery and donated $1 million to the newly named Anton Yelchin Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at Keck Hospital of USC, where he received treatment for the disease.

But at the Sundance Film Festival this month, they’ll debut their greatest labor of love: “Love, Antosha,” a documentary that celebrates the actor’s legacy.

Nice Jewish boy.

He was apparently well-liked by all his co-stars and had a reputation as a good guy, unlike a lot of other actors.

by Anonymousreply 40June 16, 2025 6:52 AM

The parents are weirdos. What do you expect from Soviet thugs?

by Anonymousreply 41June 16, 2025 7:24 AM

this isn't healthy at all. poor sad old sacks.

by Anonymousreply 42June 16, 2025 11:19 AM

It may not be healthy, but grief and especially loss are cruel taskmasters.

by Anonymousreply 43June 16, 2025 11:27 AM

He broke a young Kristen Stewart’s heart when she was 15. He was probably her first.

by Anonymousreply 44June 16, 2025 11:36 AM

What, he had Cystic Fibrosis?

by Anonymousreply 45June 16, 2025 12:03 PM

He broke Kristen's hetero heart so she turned lezzie?

by Anonymousreply 46June 16, 2025 12:55 PM

Why are people saying they're Trumpers? Because they're Russian? That's it?

I swear the dumbest fucking people post here.

by Anonymousreply 47June 16, 2025 1:09 PM

R46 No, I pulled it out of the documentary she appeared in that his parents made.

by Anonymousreply 48June 16, 2025 1:22 PM

You trust these devotional parents to say or have seen much that is true about Anton?

by Anonymousreply 49June 16, 2025 1:35 PM

I am referring to the words that came out of K-Stew’s mouth.

by Anonymousreply 50June 16, 2025 1:52 PM

Damn, imagine surviving cystic fibrosis only to be squished by your car

by Anonymousreply 51June 16, 2025 2:47 PM

[quote] What, he had Cystic Fibrosis?

Yes, and his parents donated $1,000,000 to the USC Center for Cystic Fibrosis.

A clinic was named after him: "USC Anton Yelchin Cystic Fibrosis Clinic," at USC's Keck Medical Center.

R54- Your cartoon character AND Anton's mother resemble Susan Powter of STOP THE INSANITY

by Anonymousreply 56June 16, 2025 4:25 PM

He appeared on an early episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm as Cheryl's nephew . He was a magician and Larry was annoyed by his talent or the fact that he would not tell Larry his magicians secrets. He was cute there.

by Anonymousreply 57June 16, 2025 4:26 PM

He was great in an episode of Law & Order CI (a Chris Noth one) playing a teen student having an affair with his teacher, the Mary Kay Letourneau story ripped from the headlines.

by Anonymousreply 58June 16, 2025 7:24 PM

[quote] OK thanks, my bad. I didn't realise Kriten herself spoke in the documentary. I am sorry for being a cunt to you.

No worries, and thank you for the classic DL apology, you spicy bitch .

by Anonymousreply 59June 16, 2025 9:39 PM

R58- I liked that episode . His DAD was pretty hot in that episode and Yelchin was a really cute teen boy in that ( don't worry my name is NOT Bryan Singer) the teacher he has the affair with is Betty Draper's bitchy neighborhood friend on Mad Men ( before Mad Men).

by Anonymousreply 60June 16, 2025 10:13 PM

Heartbreaking. I’m glad they were able to stay together. Plenty wouldn’t.
