Growing up, we had a laundry chute which was interesting, but as an impressionable kid, garbage chutes in highrises were a little glamorous to me. How do they keep them clean? The constant spatter would thicken the walls with filth. Not to mention clogs.
Garbage Chutes.

Twice a year they lower midgets down the chutes to clean them.

vermin live in the chutes or near them and lick them clean.

Good to know.
I'm looking for a job.

Not a fan. We had one in the previous condo building. Everything was OK for a while and then my partner and I started developing these headaches and sinus issues, curiously enough, once a month. It turned out that the building management would clean the chute by pouring some chemicals down it every month. It turned out that they seeped into the vents and the condo itself through drywall. I guess enough owners complained and they stopped doing it. In the new condo building, we don't have a garbage chute but a garbage room and I much prefer it that way.

It takes friction and suds.
We used to push a soaped-up fat chick down 'em every Christmas and they'd squeeze down to the bottom.
Then we'd take her to a car wash to clean up and give her a bonus.

I'm actually curious what the real answer is.

I just moved. There is a garbage chute labeled rubbish behind a door . Whenever I go there , I think of that scene from the bad seed where she throws her shoes down the chute , creepy man shows them to her, and he burns in the chute as a result
I still hear his screams and her incessant piano playing

They used steam in the high-rise building I used to live in but that was 40 years ago.
