Are you “one of the good ones?”

Have you ever been accused by other gay men of not being your true self? Or being a sellout? Or not being gay enough? Or been criticized for not being out and visible at work? Or been accused of being a right wing Trump supporter even though you are a registered Democrat?

No. Next question, please.

I’d tell them to shove their gatekeeping up their ass.

This sounds like projection, OP. Show us on the doll, where they touched you.

I really resent people who think gays have to announce their sexuality to everyone or even anyone.

Where are you trying to lead us, OP?

Do tell.

I’m the gay who tells others this

I have always lived my life (both professional and private) as quietly and unassuming as possible. That does not mean I've ever been a pushover because I am not. During my 33 years working for the same company I was out from day one. Actually I was out before I even started work as I told my new boss, one of the wealthiest men in the world, that before we signed the contract he should know that "I am a homosexual man, and if you have problems with that then we may as well end this now". His response after thinking for a few moments was "well, if it's no problem for you it's certainly no problem for me". He was the only boss I ever had for 33 years, not to mention one of my closest friends and mentors.

I was out to anyone who cared to know at work, although few to none ever actually asked me, though a few knew through various sources. it just wasn't an issue. But I never ran around blabbing to everyone I met that "HEY, I'M GAY!!!". The only reason I told my new boss before we signed the employment contract was because I didn't want it all to blow up after I had started work.

So, I may not be a hero of the gay community, I do think I've done right by our people. I've never once denied it or ever attempted to make it look like I was anything other than what I was. As Nathan Lane once said when asked about how he lead his life as a gay man, my life was an open book, but that didn't mean I had to read it to everyone.
