It seems to fit that he’d have his dalliance abroad. In Europe, surely, but abroad.

Although I assumed it, the writer does not say that the closeted politician is associated with anti-gay policies. This makes the question kind of silly. It’s hypocrisy that would make it a close question. If the politician is not anti-gay, of course he shouldn’t out him.
