How many of these "unhappy" soldiers and their families voted for Trump (or didn't vote, which was in effect a vote for Trump)? Most, I'd wager.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 12, 2025 3:39 PM |
Not all of them voted for Trump, R2. Not all of their families voted for Trump. Many did, in fact, vote for Harris. The National Guard includes people of every background including gay people, women, and people of color. They're not "regular military" and most have full time jobs and live in regular communities, not on a military base.
The "Leopards eating faces" trope gets pretty tiresome when you paint wide swathes with such broad strokes absent any evidence. It's just a mechanism to shut off your own empathy. Try thinking a little harder first. The world is not so black and white, and black and white thinking is what got us here.

R3 several service members? Several? Out of 1000s. I’d be surprised really surprised if many or anybodyMarines were upset or complaining. Marines are usually up for an adventure, The Guard id not be surprised.
LA may not feel it but they are being honored. Fox company 2/7 who will be arriving soon may be the most famous individual company in the corps and certainly its most important.

by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 12, 2025 4:09 PM |
They gave troops who opposed Trump the option to not attend. They were not asking each troop if they liked Trump. Fat troops? There should be none. Bad advertising at least.
Just visits from a general and uniform inspections and getting ready was a big deal,
But this is what happens when gay men and straight progressive men refuse to serve their country in the military.
The Marines sailors airmen and troops are no longer are like them. They look like the rest of the country. Less gay and less liberal.

Datalounge does not support fat troops.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 12, 2025 4:32 PM |
There really aren't fat troops - you have to pass physical requirements and there are BMI limits. I believe the most you can be is 28 BMI, which is not heavy depending on muscle mass.
if you gain weight, they have programs to keep you under the weight guidelines. Otherwise, you may not be retained - meaning they can kick you out if you get fat.
My ex-partner was a Captain in the Navy (high officer rank) and we used to go to P/Xs and military base stores all the time. There are NO FAT CLOTHES - no pants larger than 36 and NO FAT uniforms, which they are required to buy. No XXLs, XXXLs, and very few 'large' waist sizes - 35 or 36 maximum and not a lot of those either.
Military contractors obviously don't have the same standards and there can be a bit more wiggle room for women, but it's insane to think there are obese military enlisted. It just isn't allowed.

FFS proof read R4.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 12, 2025 4:55 PM |
R8 There is what is and there is what should be and often they not nearly the same thing. A simple google could have told you if the US has a problem with obese or over weight troops.
Try that first.
My bet—-not in the Marines not in the Rangers, but fat fuck office workers would be my guess AF, Navy , Army , and certainly the Guard.

R10 - I've been on many bases - there are civilians that work on bases and they may be overweight. But the enlisted are not.
Now - there's the National Guard and there's a high rate of obesity there - but they're obviously not the same, but the figures get mixed together.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 12, 2025 5:18 PM |
R12 unlike you I am actually addressing the issue, With some actual insight. Strange I realize for DL.
Troll away big guy
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 12, 2025 5:20 PM |
R13 and what did your google tell you when you did one?
What % of US troops are considered over weight? . Based on what the military says not what you saw riding thru a base.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 12, 2025 5:24 PM |
The commanders of these troops specified that no fat troops should be permitted to stand behind Trump. Seems to me this is evidence that fat troops exist.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 12, 2025 5:30 PM |
R15 - those numbers are from a study that used only BMI and also included those rejected from military as well as national guard. There are a LOT of military with a high amount of muscle who would be classified as obese according to BMI.
When I was lifting a lot, my BMI was over 30 (obese), but I had less than 15% body fat which is relatively low and looks fit.
Don't trust any AI-generated response from Google. You have to look into the details and the non-military organization that put it together.
You get on the first page 2 results - 70% of active military are overweight or obese, and then you get another report saying 20% are obese. I'm not saying it's not a problem - as it is for the entire US - but to just blindly believe that all enlisted are fat fucks' is really stupid and not true.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 12, 2025 5:39 PM |
Just leaving this here.
[QUOTE]Soldiers sitting in the bleachers are to be fit and not look fat.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 12, 2025 5:40 PM |
According to cdc in 2020 19% of troops were obese. Not overly muscled.
658,000 military work days lost because of overweight troops. A cost or loss of 103 million dollars a year. They sufferer more injuries.
Fat troops impact readiness, And the number one reason for flunking a try at enlisting in the first place—-over weight obese enlistees.
And let’s face it most troops are not infantry SEALs or Rangers. Most are office workers and support troops.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 12, 2025 6:01 PM |
R19 - you don't know what you're talking about. It's all based on BMI, which is a stupid and outdated measurement.
If you think 20% of all ground soldiers, marines, combat pilots, etc. are obese, then you are a fool and just want to jump on to a "Haha - military is FAT" bullshit.
I live in one of the highest percentage of military populations in the country. There are huge army, Navy and marine bases near me - and I've been on all of them.
Talking about a 40 year old enlisted working in supplies or cartography as being obese isn't the same thing as talking about actual troops. Do they have a problem keeping some troops fit - yes, a lot of young Americans eat absolute GARBAGE - and the bases have a ton of fast food on them as well.
But don't fall into this fatty troop meme - it just isn't as bad as people say.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 12, 2025 6:15 PM |
R20 now take a deep breath relax and read again.
CDC has said this not me. And obese was their word, And I clearly stated that most troops are not infantry rangers recon or seals, like DL most troops are remf office or support troops.
Now maybe you know better than CDC or DoD those who actually collect this data?

by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 12, 2025 6:39 PM |
SR20 in your view a 40 yo military logistics professional, some of the most important people in our military, are not real troops?
Now that may be the dumbest DL statement of the day. They are not combat arms troops sailors or marines but they sure as fuck are real troops.
The insight that can be found at DL.
R22 wrong side of our country. The fat fucks told to hide from the cameras were army at Ft Bragg. Not Marines in LA.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 12, 2025 6:44 PM |
R20 don’t tell some Marine you meet on the street , who is a press pogue or supply guy, that in your opinion he is not a real Marine unless you have really good dental insurance.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 12, 2025 6:46 PM |
R23/R24 - aww go fuck all the way off. The implication is that we have all of these obese combat troops on the ground and that's not the case. I was drawing a distinction between the two and who could be considered obese and whether or not that really has anything to do with preparedness and ability to fight.
But you knew that. I should have said active combat troops.
And no I don't put JD Vance's military press credentials and experience up there on the same level as those who would be going into the line of fire. Ask ANY military person and there is a pecking order and someone in supplies is not viewed in the same esteem as combat. That doesn't mean they're not important, and nobody would ever say that. And I never said that.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 12, 2025 7:15 PM |
R25 I don’t have to ask anyone. I am though one who had respect for the support troops who supported me. And I realize that the logistics and supply people are some of the most important people in combat or better——for combat.
JD Vance may have been a press pogue but he was not like you or Trump. My guess is that you followed the path of Trump and have never served a fucking day in your life
Fucking civilians making fun of active duty support troops. You are a lot like Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 12, 2025 7:32 PM |
R26 - I didn't make fun of active duty support troops - you're putting words in my mouth. Go fuck all the way off - I said NOBODY in the military would say they're not important.
And now you're comparing me to Trump? FFS, all I said is that someone is taking this thing about there being obese military to a stupid level and that does not mean we have a bunch of gravy seal fatasses sitting around for combat deployment.
Take your faux patriotism and bullshit somewhere else. I would think you would have stepped up to support my claim that there isn't an obesity epidemic in the active combat troops but no - you want to twist my words and call me Trump.
Fucking idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 12, 2025 7:43 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 12, 2025 8:40 PM |
R8, I worked at the Pentagon recently and I come from a military family. Growing up there were no military fatties (80s early 90s), but since then it's become an issue. In the 21st century fitness standards have really slacked. Troops have been given multiple chances to lose weight and pass their PT test. There are quite a few overweight service members, mostly women. I know of a military federal agent who was given 13 years or so to lose weight and never did. He was finally kicked out of the program.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 12, 2025 8:53 PM |
In my experience there were indeed fat guys in the Army. But they were generally E-6s and above. Those guys didn't live in the barracks and nobody was making them get up at 4:30AM to be outside in formation at 5:30 to run three miles in the pitch dark. Like they ever could have done that anyway.
But those guys were lifers; nobody was going to get rid of them.

They are killers. That’s their main and primary job. They kill were pointed. As is their job to do. And they always follow the civilian leadership that the American people have elected.
If the Dems and Harris had done a better job trying to get elected this would likely be a moot point today.

I guess you forgot I was [bold]in[/bold] the Army, R42 -- so although I may not know the state of the lower enlisted ranks in 2025, I certainly know what things were like in the late 70s, the genesis of the modern all-volunteer Army.
There have been those mandatory weight-loss programs all along, but they were as much of a joke as Trump obeying the Constitution. And, as I said, there were plenty of overweight staff sergeants and above. I imagine paperwork was fabricated for them somewhere unless your captain was a real asshole. The officers depended on the upper-ranking NCOs to get things done, so The officers didn't want to piss them off.
I shot heroin almost the entire time I was stationed in Germany (as did half my barracks), and that was strictly verboten. But I never got caught (few did, unless they were targeting you for something in addition to that), and no one really cared that much. BTW, the troops who weren't shooting dope drank like fish.
I can always tell (and lament) that no one knows how the military works any more because there isn't a draft (and IMHO, there should be). Military PR has been very successful as painting service members as some kind of angelic heroes ("Here I come to save the day!"), when most people in the military can barely read or write or do a push-up or sit up. Hell, the only branch now that's filling their recruitment quota is the Marines, and that's because their standards are the lowest of all the services. I remember when the Marine Corps took (sorry -- politically incorrect) retarded guys and no one thought anything of it. Cannon fodder, you know.
The thing about the military is that yes, there are very strict standards -- but no one really cares about them beyond the superficial. You get away with whatever you can get away with, because if you actually obeyed every meticulous ridiculous bullshit thing the military says you have to do, nothing would ever get done. And if you get busted for something, oh, well -- that's just the luck of the draw. And many, many things about the military are just that -- the luck of the draw.
Sorry -- I could go on and on. My point is, don't tell me I know nothing about the military. I wish I knew nothing about the military, but, sadly, I lived it.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 13, 2025 3:42 PM |
Marines have the lowest standards for enlistment? Today’s vote for dumbest statement,
The marines have kept their standards up way up and they have kept focus——everyone a rifleman, We don’t offer lots of enlistment $$$$ like the other services they will proudly say.
Earning the Title should be enough and if it’s not go to the army and get their $10000s.
Personally I think that is nuts Instead go to the Army and get a Ranger ( try out ) contract . Lots of money and a long waiting line there just to try out,
These people are unlike DL people, They will die for the rest of us.
