Edward VIII was a NASTY queen. He would make the perfect datalounger. I heard rumors that he took it up the ARSE. I'm not surprised.
He was a buggerer!!!

There was always the rumor she was half commoner.

I believe he was bisexual and his American wife allowed his proclivities.
I think Scotty Bowers talked about it in his book. And I believe him.

The Crown was such a great series, especially with Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. Eileen Atkins stole ever scene she was in.
"Don't call her that."
"Don't call him that."
Best scene was when she schooled the nurse about the various Queens.
The real Queen Mary was never so interesting.

I love how Queen Mary is smiling when she says "don't call that..." like she agrees

I still think the Earl of Snowdon telling Princess Margaret she looked like a Jewish manicurist was the best bitch-burn of the series (and I believe based in fact).

He called her Cookie because the rumor was she was the daughter of her father the Earl and the family cook.

And just for clarity there are Royals and nobility and everyone else is a commoner. The aristocracy is non royal commoners. But they are still the aristocracy.
It easier with Venn Diagrams.

Excuse me - but did I hear Cookie? I'm just here to follow-up on a lead - I distinctly heard the word cookie.

R11, there were so many great put-downs in that series:
The Queen giving it to Macmillan and his predecessors when he resigns...("A confederacy of elected quitters")...I believe that was shot at The Senate House in Bloomsbury.
The Queen giving it to the Duke of Windsor ("a mockery of the very tenets of Christianity" and then the buzzer)
The Queen giving it to Mountbatten ("unconstitutional coups")
The Queen giving it to her husband (too numerous)
The Queen giving it to Charles (quite a few..."Let me let you in on a secret...No one wants to hear it" stands out)
A tired and tipsy Queen Mother giving it to the Queen ("No one wants a blue stocking or college lecturer for a sovereign")
Here's a great compilation...
