Chris Robinson is DEAD to me!

He worked primarily on soaps-General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful and Another World.

He had a better run than most but he was batshit crazy. During the beanie baby craze, he practically went bankrupt buying up “limited editions”. Was driving all around to stores, getting family members buying them too, and then was stunned when it all crashed, like anyone with a brain could foresee. Also lots of wives and girlfriends and kids. I saw the documentary on YouTube. Absolute nuts.

Seems like he had two sons named Christopher.

I remember having a slight crush on him when I watched GH in the 80s. Didn't he have an "affair" with Monica Quartermaine? The actress who played her died recently.

by Anonymousreply 3June 11, 2025 3:51 PM

Well - he couldn’t live with the grief of losing both Lesley and Monica in under six months. Let’s hope they are all dining at The Floating Rib in the sky tonight!

The prolonged. Beanie Baby episode was somewhat shocking. And he wasn't even a victim of a scam. He conjured it up all by himself. It's the sort of thing an addled elderly lady would do to 'supplement" her retirement income.

I remember when the Montgomery Clift biography by Patricia Bosworth was released, (in the 70's) there was a resurgence of interest in his life. Chris Robinson was on General Hospital and it was announced in the gossip magazines that CR was going to produce and star in his biopic.

Guessing his agent and manager talked him out of it.

by Anonymousreply 6June 11, 2025 6:58 PM

You people that watch soap operas…so embarrassing!

by Anonymousreply 7June 11, 2025 7:03 PM

General Hospital circa 1980 was not a soap opera. It was EVERYTHING!!!!!

[quote]R6 Guessing his agent and manager talked him out of it.

Wasn’t that Gary?

by Anonymousreply 9June 11, 2025 8:02 PM

he wasn't a doctor but he played one on TV

by Anonymousreply 10June 11, 2025 8:16 PM

He got arrested for bigamy.

by Anonymousreply 11June 11, 2025 8:26 PM

It's possible he was stupid enough not to know it is illegal.

by Anonymousreply 12June 11, 2025 8:30 PM

R10 I have a feeling that that line is a bigger legacy than the one he left playing Rick Webber.

"I'm not a (Insert profession), but I play one on TV" really is a permanent part of the zeitgeist.

by Anonymousreply 13June 11, 2025 8:57 PM

I thought Peter Bergman was actually the first one to say that-it was back when he played Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children.

by Anonymousreply 14June 11, 2025 9:17 PM

Robinson was the perfect person to do that "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV" commercial. GH was at its absolute peak when that commercial debuted.

At that point, there weren't many prime time medical dramas on, so it made sense to use the actor playing the good guy doctor on TV's most popular soap.

After Robinson was convicted of tax evasion, Vicks obviously had to disassociate itself from Robinson -- couldn't have the brand tainted by association with his conviction. So, Vicks went to the next most popular soap and got a good guy doctor there, Peter Bergman, to take over the commercials.

The "I'm Not a Doctor But I Play One on TV" ad campaign started in 1984.

Robinson did the commercials for two years, then after Robinson's tax evasion conviction, Bergman took over the commercials.

Aaaahhhhhhhhhhh - The Beanie Baby Craze of 1997 - 2000. I owned my gift shop then, and those were the golden years. E-bay was new, and I had a middle-aged woman who shopped my store and asked me to call her when the deliveries came in (I had known her for years from a job I had before opening my store). She was a shrewd business woman who knew how to make money. She would buy up my delivery of BBs (I never even had to unpack the boxes) give me a check or cash for the thousands of dollars they retailed at (I sold them for $7) , and go home and sell them on E Bay - for anywhere from 10 to 20 times what I sold them for. Most of them were sold in the midwest where residents didn't live near stores which sold them. She sold many to other 'dealers' at flea markets and carnivals.

When the hell are they going to have Monica die on GH? . . . cause good girls don't and Annie won't . . .

by Anonymousreply 20June 11, 2025 10:07 PM

I suspect they were waiting for Days to finish John Black's long death and funeral before dealing with Monica's funeral on GH.

With only five soaps left, no point in having competing funerals.

by Anonymousreply 21June 11, 2025 10:21 PM

R14 Robinson came first.

by Anonymousreply 22June 11, 2025 10:47 PM

That entire Rick/Leslie/Alan/Monica on GH saga, is now gone.

by Anonymousreply 23June 11, 2025 10:55 PM

R23 of my GOD I hated it about 9 years ago when they brought Lesley back and she and Monica sniped back and forth! THEY'D MADE UP! They were friends and professional colleagues for YEARS after that affair.

So dumb.

by Anonymousreply 24June 11, 2025 10:59 PM

R24. Not to mention that Lesley Webber put on a LOT of weight. Very embarrassing for a physician!

by Anonymousreply 25June 11, 2025 11:34 PM

He looked like Alan Alda or vice versa.

by Anonymousreply 26June 11, 2025 11:38 PM

Vince McKinnon (2nd better looking version)? On AW? The first version was a whining blob.

by Anonymousreply 30June 12, 2025 5:32 AM

He played Jason Frame on Another World. Didn’t Derek shoot Jason during Felicia’s “Cherish” storyline?

You are my rain when my spirit runs dry!

Re: r29:

Why wouldn’t they get someone with decent handwriting (and a fresh pen) to do the clapper?
