I was on a sitcom in the 80s

I'm broke and thinking about doing those autograph conventions. I notice others like Kristy McNichol doing them. Have you ever? Was it humiliating? How much did you earn?

Skippy?

by Anonymousreply 1June 10, 2025 7:20 PM

Instead of or in addition to OnlyFans?

by Anonymousreply 2June 10, 2025 7:21 PM

R1, she said who she was: TI(N)A

by Anonymousreply 3June 10, 2025 7:23 PM

Do it. Bigger stars than you can imagine participate in those autograph events.

Yes, you might have a bit of anxiety, but you also might have fun. The fans enjoy it--and that's all that matters after you get your paycheck.

by Anonymousreply 4June 10, 2025 7:25 PM

Are you........Gary Coleman?

by Anonymousreply 5June 10, 2025 7:25 PM

Tia Carrere?

by Anonymousreply 6June 10, 2025 7:28 PM

have you been in the legitimate theater?

by Anonymousreply 7June 10, 2025 7:28 PM

How is it humiliating? You are providing a service to the fans who go out of their way to meet you and chat with you and maybe get your signature. It's not playing a part in a Shakespeare play, or a successful film, but it's fine. Non actors toil day after day in various jobs just to make a living and support their family, and there is nothing humiliating or dishonorable in making a legal living.

by Anonymousreply 8June 10, 2025 7:39 PM

Mason Reece?

by Anonymousreply 9June 10, 2025 7:43 PM

Tiffany Brissette from Small Wonder?

by Anonymousreply 10June 10, 2025 7:46 PM

If Fake Jan from the Brady Bunch Variety Hour can do them, then I think just about anyone can.

by Anonymousreply 11June 10, 2025 7:54 PM

R7 - Kitty Carlisle

by Anonymousreply 12June 10, 2025 7:56 PM

I bet it's Wesley from Mr. Belvedere.

by Anonymousreply 13June 10, 2025 8:13 PM

OP is DL fave Tina Yothers.

by Anonymousreply 14June 10, 2025 8:16 PM

I had a friend who was a B list actor from a 70s series and she made bank at these autograph shows. If you have merch like a book you wrote or anything else, you can make more.

by Anonymousreply 15June 10, 2025 8:19 PM

Janet Jackson

by Anonymousreply 16June 10, 2025 8:20 PM

Go for it!

by Anonymousreply 17June 10, 2025 8:28 PM

Do it. Oscar winners and nominees have done them. Especially since you’ve never done one. The autograph hounds will come a-callin’. Plus, you get to interact with people who genuinely like your work. It’s generally a flatter-fest and you’ll make $$$.

by Anonymousreply 18June 10, 2025 8:29 PM

Danny Pintauro?

by Anonymousreply 19June 10, 2025 8:41 PM

Good for Kristy. You know she had people lining up.

by Anonymousreply 20June 10, 2025 8:44 PM

Okay, OP. How about just one clue to your identity. Are you a greedy bitch?

by Anonymousreply 21June 10, 2025 8:46 PM

Tiffany Brissette

by Anonymousreply 22June 10, 2025 8:46 PM

Scott Baio, has MAGA World let you down?

by Anonymousreply 23June 10, 2025 8:50 PM

OP did a day of background work on She's the Sheriff.

by Anonymousreply 24June 10, 2025 8:52 PM

Being "background actor #3" has to be lucrative

by Anonymousreply 25June 10, 2025 8:54 PM

Omg, are you Haywood Nelson?

What was Shirley like in real life?

by Anonymousreply 26June 10, 2025 9:04 PM

You are the kid who got AIDS from Mr. Belvedere

by Anonymousreply 27June 10, 2025 9:07 PM

R27 Mr. Belvedere didn’t give anyone AIDS but you wouldn’t believe the UTIs he caused.

by Anonymousreply 28June 10, 2025 9:35 PM

All he ever gave me was a headache.

by Anonymousreply 29June 10, 2025 9:39 PM

You don't wanna know what Mr. French gave me!

by Anonymousreply 30June 10, 2025 9:41 PM

It was a spanking and I was jealous.

by Anonymousreply 31June 10, 2025 9:43 PM

Unca Bill gave me some red devils!

by Anonymousreply 32June 10, 2025 9:44 PM

Help! Save me!

by Anonymousreply 33June 10, 2025 9:46 PM

Shut up Mrs. Beasley! You loved scissoring with Kitty Karry-All.

by Anonymousreply 34June 10, 2025 9:49 PM

A relative dragged me to 90s Con last year. I was shocked that, in addition to the cast members from just about every sitcom of that era, there were some big name like Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis and Mira Sorvino there.

by Anonymousreply 35June 10, 2025 9:49 PM

Tracey Gold? William Katt? Willie Aames?

by Anonymousreply 36June 10, 2025 9:52 PM

Missy Gold?

by Anonymousreply 37June 10, 2025 9:53 PM

Chris Burke?

by Anonymousreply 38June 10, 2025 9:55 PM

CB Barnes?

by Anonymousreply 39June 10, 2025 10:00 PM

It's Alf!

Or Josh Blake, the kid who played smart ass neighbor Jake Ochmonek.

Hey Tootie!

by Anonymousreply 41June 10, 2025 10:08 PM

I think you’d be crazy not to. The only reason I would hesitate is if the show was pretty popular and I was a well known character and I have aged so poorly or gained so much weight that it will be hard for people to believe I am the same person. As in, after you tell them who you are, they still can’t believe it. Not just regular old and fat like everyone gets.

Wear an immaculate, unwrinkled outfit and make sure your hairs looks great. If you are female and you dye your hair, no gray roots and get a blow out (if you are white). If you are make, get an expensive haircut. Clothes should be perfect for what they are and fit perfectly, but not too aspirational. Don’t try to fool people by getting second hand Prada shoes from RealReal that hurt your feet and don’t try to look sexy. Wear something in perfect condition that is not inconsistent with your current lifestyle. Make sure you can move and sit and stand in it and be comfortable for several hours.

by Anonymousreply 42June 10, 2025 10:09 PM

You're the boss, Danny.

by Anonymousreply 43June 10, 2025 10:10 PM

#8 = Danny Pintauro

by Anonymousreply 44June 10, 2025 10:28 PM

The queeny boy "Jamie" from "Small Wonder."

by Anonymousreply 45June 10, 2025 10:47 PM

It's either that or OnlyFans.

by Anonymousreply 46June 10, 2025 10:52 PM

Someone on here mentioned Cissy from Family Affair, I actually met Kathy Garver at a San Diego Comic Con years ago and she was a doll.

No shame in doing the shows, OP!

by Anonymousreply 47June 10, 2025 10:55 PM

BrendaD

by Anonymousreply 48June 10, 2025 11:12 PM

If you're someone people would still remember and had a certain level of popularity then I would say go for it. Otherwise don't embarrass yourself if no one still around would remember you.

by Anonymousreply 49June 11, 2025 12:09 AM

R49 - never underestimate the amount of fans people have for a show and its characters/actors.

Even if it isn't the lead, many people are THRILLED to have a pic with one of the cast.

These conventions feel like the easiest and best paid job in the world.

by Anonymousreply 50June 11, 2025 12:28 AM

If you tell us who you are, you might be able to get a good idea of how you'll be received by the way we act.

If we all swoon and beg for DMs you're in and you'll make bank.

If we all say "who?" or you played "third guy in the locker room" in one episode then you might want to rethink it

by Anonymousreply 51June 11, 2025 12:37 AM

[quote]I actually met Kathy Garver at a San Diego Comic Con years ago and she was a doll.

I beg your pardon!

by Anonymousreply 52June 11, 2025 12:40 AM

Just tell us what sitcom you were on.

by Anonymousreply 53June 11, 2025 12:45 AM

Why did Kristy stop acting.

She was doing relatively well as an adult and likely could have kept going as a working actress on other sitcoms over the years.

by Anonymousreply 54June 11, 2025 12:51 AM

More importantly, are you hot? Please do remember that this is the DL.

by Anonymousreply 55June 11, 2025 12:54 AM

Were you on Valere/The Hogan Family?

by Anonymousreply 56June 11, 2025 1:01 AM

Everybody everyone has mentioned have all done shows before, even Chachi. Do it OP, it's really a love fest. We here got the entertainment gene, my brother got the sports gene and wants to meet his favorite athletes. I got to meet Oscars winners, Ernest Borgnine, Patty Duke, Chloris Leachman, Louise Fletcher, Haley Mills, Rita Moreno, and many nominees and had their DVDs signed.

by Anonymousreply 57June 11, 2025 1:14 AM

Get that money girl.

by Anonymousreply 58June 11, 2025 1:16 AM

I went to one and it was a strange experience. The celebrities are seated at tables and the fans would line up for some and others would have no one approaching them. It was kind of depressing. I did get both Kristy McNichol and Tatum O'Neal to autograph my Little Darlings memorabilia. Kristy was so friendly. Tatum looked fantastic and was cordial.

by Anonymousreply 59June 11, 2025 1:24 AM

I wanna hear more about the going on at Uncle Bill's!

Jody, did you ever get to him naked stepping out of the shower or maybe you opened the bathroom door when he was relieving himself, standing in front of the toilet?

If not you... how 'bout you Cissy? I mean, if you got to see Uncle Bill in all his glory, didn't the boys you dated seem pale and wan in comparison?

And please, I do not want to know about Mr. French's daily ablutions! Eww...

by Anonymousreply 60June 11, 2025 1:25 AM

That does sound sad r59, at least for some. I don't know that there's a show I care enough about to want to go to an event like that, but if I did, I think I'd make a point of going to one of those empty tables. There's somebody who actually will be thrilled to talk to somebody, I imagine, and would probably have some fun stories about the whole experience and even some fun gossip, rather than somebody processing 200 people and just trying to get through the same stupid 2-minute conversation over and over and over again.

by Anonymousreply 61June 11, 2025 1:31 AM

I remember seeing a pic of Lorenzo Lamas at one of those and his table was one of the only ones that had no line. He left early according to the article .

by Anonymousreply 62June 11, 2025 1:35 AM

Do it. Meet some fans, make some money. Celebrities from D-list to A-list have done these things. Don't be ashamed of doing a convention.

by Anonymousreply 63June 11, 2025 1:46 AM

R62 - he's always come across as a dick to me - so that tracks. The Lorenzo Lamas fan club has 1 member, and it's his reflection.

by Anonymousreply 64June 11, 2025 2:45 AM

While some of these are sad, if you go to comicon, the lines stretch for HOURS and the costs can run $200 for an autograph.

I was at a comicon with a friend who wanted Dean Cain to sign a DVD of Broken Hearts Club (pre-bloat days). Cain was very nice to everyone and willing to take pix along with signing stuff. He wasn't charging that much (I want to say $20).

While some events and celebs only get what they earn from signing, other events pay a fee and cover expenses and also let the celeb walk with whatever they earn. Bigger names draw more people to the event, so it getting someone popular pays for itself.

These days, you can't even get a ticket to wait in line for a signature from someone like Shatner, he's so popular.

by Anonymousreply 65June 11, 2025 2:45 AM

Go OP. And let us DLers know which one so we can support you. I promise $50.

by Anonymousreply 66June 11, 2025 4:09 AM

The Family Affair stuff is funny, but OP said on a sitcom in the 80s ....

Anyhoo, do it! And also tell us what show you were on.

by Anonymousreply 67June 11, 2025 4:41 AM

I can't believe no one has brought up the true tale of horror involving Vicki Lawrence at the Hollywood Show a few years back (pre Covid). She thought someone was taking an unauthorized picture of her and she started screaming and berating them, yelling that they owed her $50 a picture. True story!

by Anonymousreply 68June 11, 2025 4:44 AM

So you're Allan Kayser “ Bubba” from Mama’s Family? Only Fans a great idea-you always did show bulge.

by Anonymousreply 69June 11, 2025 4:55 AM

I loved you're big hair!

by Anonymousreply 70June 11, 2025 4:57 AM

R64 fan club of 2. Elizabeth Theranos Holmes told people in high school he is her cousin.

by Anonymousreply 71June 11, 2025 5:03 AM

Do the celebrities charge cash only? Is it a useful money laundering scheme?

It would be quite an ordeal to haul a carryon bag full of cash back across the country.

by Anonymousreply 72June 11, 2025 5:05 AM

R72 - yeah - I've seen some docs and it's cash only and there are ATMs at the convention halls.

There are other ways to deal with cash. Just ask drug dealers.

by Anonymousreply 73June 11, 2025 5:10 AM

R68 Was it Air Supply?

by Anonymousreply 74June 11, 2025 6:55 AM

I still think its the Small Wonder kid pretending to be a gay man.

It wouldn't be a first for DL.

I love her anyway!

by Anonymousreply 75June 11, 2025 7:08 AM

Patricia Richardson, has to be

by Anonymousreply 76June 11, 2025 9:13 PM

R76. It can't be Pat Richardson. She has all that "Ulee's Gold" money!

by Anonymousreply 77June 11, 2025 9:40 PM

[quote]So you're Allan Kayser “ Bubba” from Mama’s Family? Only Fans a great idea-you always did show bulge.

Alan does shows all the time.

by Anonymousreply 78June 11, 2025 10:08 PM

Home Improvement was in the 90s, so it is not Patricia Ricardson or Richard Karn.

by Anonymousreply 79June 11, 2025 11:27 PM

Ya know, the title of this thread could be it's own sitcom.

I Was On a Sitcom in the 80s....starring David Faustino, or Bronson Pinchot. It could be a real-life male version of The Comeback. I could see Showtime doing it.

by Anonymousreply 80June 12, 2025 7:16 AM

Do it. Fans genuinely want to meet people like u; nostalgia is huge. If we cared what others thought we'd do nothing.

by Anonymousreply 81June 12, 2025 10:10 AM

Of course! Easy money! No shame in taking what you can get! Be professional about it and you'll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 82June 12, 2025 12:34 PM

Justine, stop embarassing yourself.

by Anonymousreply 83June 12, 2025 12:40 PM

VALERIE CHERISH! DOLL IS THAT YOU??

by Anonymousreply 84June 12, 2025 1:22 PM

I have a friend who appears in these. He goes all over the world. I don't know how much he earns

by Anonymousreply 85June 12, 2025 1:28 PM

Both the Flashes (John Wesley Shipp and the guy that played Flash Gordon) came to my small city con. Also Cordelia and Anya from Buffy. Mostly anime voice actors tho.

by Anonymousreply 86June 12, 2025 2:24 PM

Cousin Geri is that you?

by Anonymousreply 87June 12, 2025 2:27 PM

If the stars of Dallas and Knots Landing can do them, so can you OP.

At one of these shows, I had a ball chatting with Larry Hagman about his time on The Edge of Night and he was absolutely delighted to see an old publicity photo from that show which I brought for him to sign.

Ditto for Donna Mills and “Love is a Many Splendored Thing”

by Anonymousreply 88June 12, 2025 2:44 PM

That's the gayest thing I've ever read on DL, R88! 😀

by Anonymousreply 89June 12, 2025 3:03 PM

When I was still pretending to want to date a woman, my friend's selling point to a girl he knew was"She looks like Tina Yothers." I dated him instead.

by Anonymousreply 90June 12, 2025 3:36 PM

R87. Yeah, it me, Blair. You know, last year, I was driving myself *hold for laughter* to a Comic Con show and I got pulled ovah!!! *hold for laughter.* So, I tell da cop, no sir, you don't undastand! Im not drunk! *hold for laughter.* I have CP!!!! *start shaking and breathless laughing while trying to put the mic back in the stand* WOW! You been great audiENCe!
