Federal agents usually get a bump in salary if they carry a gun. It used to be 25% but my knowledge is from 10 years ago so this may have changed. And locality pay as someone upthread mentioned. Generally, GS-7 would be the entry/starting pay for someone with a bachelor's degree. I don't know if that's required for ICE agents..

Some years ago I found out that congressmen can be bought for shockingly little, so nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to the dollar amount it takes to get people to do questionable things.

I've read that they receive bonus $, a 'trophy fee' for bringing in a deportation.

I have lived on even less than working class wages, without health insurance. And no. I would never have been an ICE stormtrooper.

However, given the background checks, no one who is truly desperate would get the job or be able to wait for a year to start working.
