“The Last of Us” co-creator reacts to fans angry over Pedro Pascal's shocking exit

"The big complaint that I've gotten is, 'Why did you kill Pedro Pascal?' And I keep explaining, we didn't kill him! He’s a man, he's alive. He's fine. And he's in literally everything else. So I don't know what the problem is!" Mazin joked.

"He did a thing. Everyone lost their s---, and then I had to do that same thing, because he did the thing, I loved doing the thing, I thought it was great," Mazin told Variety during Thursday's "A Night in the Writers' Room" event in Los Angeles.

Though Mazin and co-creator Neil Druckmann were simply following the story set forth in the video game The Last of Us is based on, fans were still shocked by the death of Pascal's series lead Joel in the second episode of the second season.

I’m convinced that all the drooling and gushing over that old pock faced Latino is a strategic PR campaign. I’ve never heard off one person who follows the man or mentions him. He is a very good actor, he’s definitely not attractive. There’s no way all these supposed millions of Pedro Pascal stans exist.

Here's one for you, r1

Count me as another, R1

He should commiserate with Tim Minnear.

See him on SNL, see videos of him. See him twerking. He is slim, gay-ish and filled with humor. Vary do-able, no matter his age.

R1 I love him. But I also loved the character of Joel. Unlike Game of Thrones, which had endless characters, The Last of Us is a two person show. Killing one of those two made no sense. Even if it was in the video game. TV is different than a first person shooter game.

I want the potato faced girl to wake up and find Joel in the shower so we can pretend this season never happened.

So eloquent. You can see why he was hired as a writer.

Craig Mazin is one ugly mother fucker.

I also don't give a shit one way or the other about Pedro Pascal.

by Anonymousreply 11June 9, 2025 11:10 PM

Haven't watched the show, but I've seen clips of the girl and she can't act for shit. The second game does have Joel getting killed off, but I can't imagine TV viewers being OK with that when what's left from the first game/season is such a terrible actress.
