Harriet Miers
Twenty years ago, President George W. Bush nominated White House Counsel Harriet Miers to fill retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's seat on the Supreme Court.
The caricature of Miers that emerged- as a luckless spinster manifestly unqualified to serve on the Court- contains a measure of truth, but her defeat actually stood for something of large significance. Miers holds a unique place in the history of the Supreme Court as the only nominee to withdraw her name from consideration by the Senate even though she probably would have been confirmed.
Samuel Alito would later be nominated and confirmed to the Court.

I guess all the liberals who argued against her are regretting it now with all the Alito has done over the past two decades.
She's also legal super-genius compare to cheeto's placements.

She had a decades long romantic relationship with Nathan Hecht, the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court.

The conservatives did not want another David Souter problem.
When Alberto Gonzales was floated around as a nominee, The Drudge Report had the headline "Gonzales is Spanish for Souter."
She was never a judge and had no paper trail. She was a corporate lawyer who represented companies like Disney and Microsoft.

He was in effect an old-school liberal Republican in the Nelson Rockefeller mode. Reagan conservatives were not pleased with that.

I recall reading at the time that she had a crush on Dubya. I guess flattery won him over.
Yeah, and it gave way to "Scalito." I wonder how Scalia would vote on this court.

She got Dubya out of DUI court but was otherwise a normal conservative. Contrast that with Aileen Cannon, who bent over backwards to dismiss the case of Trump stealing classified documents. And he'll put her on SCOTUS next (and the Republican Senators will all approve).
