Steamy gay hockey romance Heated Rivalry coming to Canadian streamer

Bell Media’s Crave is set to stream Heated Rivalry, a steamy six-part series about a same-sex hockey romance created by one of the key figures behind previous hits Shoresy and Letterkenny.

Jacob Tierney, a filmmaker who was Jared Keeso’s right-hand man through season two of Shoresy, is writing and directing the show. Adapted from Canadian author Rachel Reid’s 2019 page-turner of the same name, it tells the story of major-league hockey stars Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, who meet as teenagers and end up playing on rival teams.

The two are, per the show’s logline, “torn between the sport they live for and the love they can’t ignore.”

“I was drawn to the books because of how real and raw the characters felt, the way they loved, fought and held nothing back,” Tierney said in a statement to The Globe and Mail.

Heated Rivalry – produced by Accent Aigu Entertainment, founded by Tierney and Brendan Brady – will be officially announced at Bell Media’s upfront on Thursday. News of the series leaked online as the production began filming around Ontario in Toronto, Hamilton and Guelph.

The romance novel’s avid fans have lit up Reddit with excitement, sharing the Instagram pages of Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, the actors who are playing the main characters.

“I can’t wait for everyone to meet Hudson and Connor, who bring Ilya and Shane to life in the most electric way,” Tierney said.

On her website, Nova Scotia author Reid describes herself in this way: “I like to write cute smut about hockey players and other people.”

The Crave adaptation of Heated Rivalry promises not to tone down those smutty elements.

In an interview, Justin Stockman, vice-president of content development and programming at Bell Media, said he has seen rushes from the shoot and that fans of what he called “popular IP” will not be disappointed: “There are folders you shouldn’t open at work.”

“It looks great. What we’ve seen is not even colour-corrected or edited yet and it looks like the money is on the screen,” Stockman said. “We put together a great cast.”

Heated Rivalry is still in production and a release date has not been finalized, but Bell Media will announce it as part of its 2025-2026 slate of programming.

Sounds cheesy

The blue eyed guy looks like a villain. Creepy eyebrows and mouth. Kind of like a young Buffalo Bill.

Bet he has a bitchin’ body, though.

Judging by this cover, it looks more sexy than cheesy, the GoodReads fraus are all over this. I'll watch.

[quote]THIS WAS SO FCKING GOOD! this is probably my favorite enemies to lovers romance of all time. there were HIGH stakes, TONS of steamy scenes, and a relationship that built over YEARS. it felt like this book was written just for me.

If fraus like it, then it probably isn't genuinely sexy

by Anonymousreply 4June 6, 2025 4:58 AM

I think the showrunner will use his own vast homosexual experience to tweak the parts of the book that aren't realistic enough.

by Anonymousreply 5June 6, 2025 5:04 AM

"Gay" "Hockey" "Canadian".

My wishful-thinking mind thought this was some kind of Sidney Crosby bio.

by Anonymousreply 6June 6, 2025 5:18 AM

They better lean hard into those ab00ts, and they better be s0rry about a lot of things as well. Make it authentically Canadian, is what I'm saying.

by Anonymousreply 7June 6, 2025 5:21 AM

Eh, r7?

by Anonymousreply 8June 6, 2025 5:23 AM

Haha, yes, the Ehs as well! I always forget about those. Depending on their age, we might not get a lot of those, though.

by Anonymousreply 9June 6, 2025 5:26 AM

The book series is actually pretty huge among romance readers, bigger than Red, White, and Royal Blue even.

by Anonymousreply 10June 6, 2025 5:39 AM

Meh! The two leads = kinda cute & kinda creepy

by Anonymousreply 11June 6, 2025 5:57 AM

Call me when they make this version gay—

DUDE, your turn to grab your hockey stick and PUCK me!

by Anonymousreply 13June 6, 2025 7:59 AM

Nah, I'm good.

by Anonymousreply 14June 6, 2025 10:06 AM

Wish we had another steamy Marco Berger project instead. But I’ll still watch this pulp when it comes out.

by Anonymousreply 15June 6, 2025 10:27 AM

He gives him a little peck in this clip here and I love that neither looks like a typical jock. Like r2 said, one looks like a villain and the other one is kinda dweeby.

They're still hot but they're like, Canadian hot. Which will make their eventual sex scene that much more relatable because something tells me y'all aren't all 10s around here. I mean, I for sure am, but I have my doubts about most of you.

Hosers, eh?

by Anonymousreply 17June 6, 2025 12:06 PM

Two hockey players with pent up homosexual lust? The makeup sex scenes will be very violent.

by Anonymousreply 18June 6, 2025 3:09 PM

I was skeptical when I saw their photos especially the brunette but they look perfect in that TikTok. Great casting.

by Anonymousreply 19June 6, 2025 3:49 PM

That link that r16 posted is frau central

by Anonymousreply 20June 6, 2025 4:33 PM

I listened to all these books but they needed to cast a real Russian as Ilya - that’s where all the sexiness and pathos comes from.

Shane should be a total boy next door.

It’s also a bit of a slow burn that really pays off. Not sure that works in a few episodes.

by Anonymousreply 21June 6, 2025 6:11 PM

The showrunner is the creator of Letterkenny. This is going to be soooo good.

Rachel Reid is one of those MM gay romance writers for fraus, right?

by Anonymousreply 23June 6, 2025 7:01 PM

R23, yes

by Anonymousreply 24June 6, 2025 7:11 PM

So which of the characters will be the Omega that goes into heats?
