Yennifer Lopez IS… The Spider Woman!
Lots of AI on her face...and voice.

I think it looks great

Looks like a commercial for ladies razors tbh

Blonde was a choice.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 5, 2025 4:22 PM |
Not sure who the audience is for this. Looks gay and dated.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 5, 2025 4:28 PM |
I think it will do fine.

You’ve answered your own question.
You’re on DL, after all.

She won't make anyone forget Sonia Braga.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 5, 2025 4:53 PM |
Or even Bebe Neuwirth.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 5, 2025 4:54 PM |
Or even Maria Conchita Alonso.

Obviously I will see it despite JLo - this feels SO forced though. Like she was THE logical choice for this role. And all of the opening quotes "She was born for this role!" make me want to barf.
Seems like a JLo financed production to get her an Oscar nod - after she felt dissed from that stripper movie a few years ago. (Although she was good in that - but nothing exceptional).

In a very slow year for Broadway musicals KOTSW did ok, it ran a respectable two years, but remains a terrible show.
I think the film version will have all the musical theater crowd saying it's "Amazing!", but I don't think there is any real audience for this dopey show.

I loved the original and will never watch a remake.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 5, 2025 6:03 PM |
It's not a remake, r14.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 5, 2025 6:05 PM |
Thanks R8. Sounds like it’s being marketed to old gays.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 5, 2025 6:07 PM |
I miss Chita's bellowing alto.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 5, 2025 6:10 PM |
Chita had a *sound*, Jennifer doesn't.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 5, 2025 6:12 PM |
Yeah - the market for this type of story isn't like a mass-market appeal of a Wizard of Oz story, or 1960s teenagers, or even two nightclub performers in Chicago.
The gay angle will turn some people off - but also it's not really cheery - it's a gay hairdresser and a Marxist in an Argentinian prison.
It will do OK but not huge box office. I just hope it's good.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 5, 2025 6:13 PM |
OK then, R15 -- technically speaking, it's not a "remake." But I still would never watch it.
And I, unlike most gay men, hate musicals, except for Cabaret and Torch Song Trilogy, where the performances are part of the setting of the movie.
Satisfied?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 5, 2025 6:31 PM |
Torch Song Trilogy isn't a musical, r20.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 5, 2025 6:36 PM |
The only thing worse than seeing this movie is seeing JLo everywhere promoting it.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 5, 2025 6:38 PM |
Bitch looks like Kate Hudson in the final black wig.
The whole looks is very CRISP.
I've never seen the William Hurt film and I don't know much about the musical so I will wait for the movie.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 5, 2025 6:55 PM |
I swear if I have to listen to this bitch complain again about how she was robbed of awards because she's Puerto Rican, and she never fit in or was accepted by Hollywood because she's Puerto Rican, and she's had to work harder than everyone else because she's Puerto Rican...
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 5, 2025 7:57 PM |
R24 - tell me about it - that's MY act!
However, I am one of only 21 EGOTs in the world, so maybe I'm just more talented, Ms. JLo?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 5, 2025 11:32 PM |
I know what KOTSW stands for!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 5, 2025 11:33 PM |
All of the songs have been deleted except the fantasy songs involving J Lo, 90% of the score from the Broadway show is gone.

Jessica Drew or Julia Carpenter?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 6, 2025 2:20 AM |
I'll be terribly disappointed if they really have jettisoned most of the score. What's the point of doing a musical without the songs???
I saw the film of the novel, and I saw the musical during previews in London, and later on Broadway with Chita and Maria Conchita Alonso (her first performance). The best version, though, was done in a tiny theatre near me (Equity production, in a 120-seat house). Being so physically close to the action was a revelation -the story came across much stronger. With that in mind, I'm hopeful that the new film will bring some of that immediacy that made the show so powerful and moving.
Haters are always gonna hate. But it's their loss.

There are plenty of reviews online R30 from when it premiered at Cannes and other festivals. They talk about the lack of musical numbers from the Broadway show. Some of the songs partially survive as underscoring during dramatic scenes, sans vocals of course.

Who does the singing?!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 6, 2025 4:40 AM |
Is Ashanti singing

“She was born for this role!"
I expected to see a baby.

Was Katy Jurado unavailable?

Huge bomb!
First and foremost, the public does not want Latino driven musicals. “In The Heights”, “West Side Story”, and “Emilia Pérez” were all bombs. This will be no different.
Second, presenting this as a musical was the worse move they could have made. The trailers for “La La Land”, “West Side Story”, “Wonka”, “Spirited”, and “Wicked” all hid that they were musicals to not scare off audiences.
And lastly, the production looks terrible. It reminds me of how blurry “Mame” is to hide Lucille Ball’s aged face. With this movie, it looks like they had to soften and saturate and CGI everything to balance making Jenny looking younger.

You're telling on yourself when you say "It looks gay!" like it's an insult.
