Lots of AI on her face...and voice.

by Anonymousreply 1June 5, 2025 3:21 PM

It's good and loud!

by Anonymousreply 2June 5, 2025 3:39 PM

I think it looks great

by Anonymousreply 3June 5, 2025 4:18 PM

Looks like a commercial for ladies razors tbh

by Anonymousreply 4June 5, 2025 4:18 PM

Blonde was a choice.

by Anonymousreply 5June 5, 2025 4:22 PM

Not sure who the audience is for this. Looks gay and dated.

by Anonymousreply 6June 5, 2025 4:28 PM

I think it will do fine.

by Anonymousreply 7June 5, 2025 4:29 PM

You’ve answered your own question.

You’re on DL, after all.

by Anonymousreply 8June 5, 2025 4:33 PM

She won't make anyone forget Sonia Braga.

by Anonymousreply 9June 5, 2025 4:53 PM

Or even Bebe Neuwirth.

by Anonymousreply 10June 5, 2025 4:54 PM

Or even Maria Conchita Alonso.

by Anonymousreply 11June 5, 2025 5:41 PM

Obviously I will see it despite JLo - this feels SO forced though. Like she was THE logical choice for this role. And all of the opening quotes "She was born for this role!" make me want to barf.

Seems like a JLo financed production to get her an Oscar nod - after she felt dissed from that stripper movie a few years ago. (Although she was good in that - but nothing exceptional).

In a very slow year for Broadway musicals KOTSW did ok, it ran a respectable two years, but remains a terrible show.

I think the film version will have all the musical theater crowd saying it's "Amazing!", but I don't think there is any real audience for this dopey show.

by Anonymousreply 13June 5, 2025 5:59 PM

I loved the original and will never watch a remake.

by Anonymousreply 14June 5, 2025 6:03 PM

It's not a remake, r14.

by Anonymousreply 15June 5, 2025 6:05 PM

Thanks R8. Sounds like it’s being marketed to old gays.

by Anonymousreply 16June 5, 2025 6:07 PM

I miss Chita's bellowing alto.

by Anonymousreply 17June 5, 2025 6:10 PM

Chita had a *sound*, Jennifer doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 18June 5, 2025 6:12 PM

Yeah - the market for this type of story isn't like a mass-market appeal of a Wizard of Oz story, or 1960s teenagers, or even two nightclub performers in Chicago.

The gay angle will turn some people off - but also it's not really cheery - it's a gay hairdresser and a Marxist in an Argentinian prison.

It will do OK but not huge box office. I just hope it's good.

by Anonymousreply 19June 5, 2025 6:13 PM

OK then, R15 -- technically speaking, it's not a "remake." But I still would never watch it.

And I, unlike most gay men, hate musicals, except for Cabaret and Torch Song Trilogy, where the performances are part of the setting of the movie.

Satisfied?

Torch Song Trilogy isn't a musical, r20.

by Anonymousreply 21June 5, 2025 6:36 PM

The only thing worse than seeing this movie is seeing JLo everywhere promoting it.

by Anonymousreply 22June 5, 2025 6:38 PM

Bitch looks like Kate Hudson in the final black wig.

The whole looks is very CRISP.

I've never seen the William Hurt film and I don't know much about the musical so I will wait for the movie.

by Anonymousreply 23June 5, 2025 6:55 PM

I swear if I have to listen to this bitch complain again about how she was robbed of awards because she's Puerto Rican, and she never fit in or was accepted by Hollywood because she's Puerto Rican, and she's had to work harder than everyone else because she's Puerto Rican...

by Anonymousreply 24June 5, 2025 7:57 PM

R24 - tell me about it - that's MY act!

However, I am one of only 21 EGOTs in the world, so maybe I'm just more talented, Ms. JLo?

by Anonymousreply 25June 5, 2025 11:32 PM

I know what KOTSW stands for!

by Anonymousreply 26June 5, 2025 11:33 PM

I prefer Kiss of the Spider Baby

All of the songs have been deleted except the fantasy songs involving J Lo, 90% of the score from the Broadway show is gone.

[quote]Yennifer Lopez IS… The Spider Woman!

Jessica Drew or Julia Carpenter?

by Anonymousreply 29June 6, 2025 2:20 AM

I'll be terribly disappointed if they really have jettisoned most of the score. What's the point of doing a musical without the songs???

I saw the film of the novel, and I saw the musical during previews in London, and later on Broadway with Chita and Maria Conchita Alonso (her first performance). The best version, though, was done in a tiny theatre near me (Equity production, in a 120-seat house). Being so physically close to the action was a revelation -the story came across much stronger. With that in mind, I'm hopeful that the new film will bring some of that immediacy that made the show so powerful and moving.

Haters are always gonna hate. But it's their loss.

by Anonymousreply 30June 6, 2025 2:28 AM

There are plenty of reviews online R30 from when it premiered at Cannes and other festivals. They talk about the lack of musical numbers from the Broadway show. Some of the songs partially survive as underscoring during dramatic scenes, sans vocals of course.

by Anonymousreply 31June 6, 2025 3:01 AM

Who does the singing?!

by Anonymousreply 32June 6, 2025 4:40 AM

Is Ashanti singing

by Anonymousreply 33June 6, 2025 5:16 AM

“She was born for this role!"

I expected to see a baby.

by Anonymousreply 34June 6, 2025 5:18 AM

Was Katy Jurado unavailable?

by Anonymousreply 35June 6, 2025 5:35 AM

Huge bomb!

First and foremost, the public does not want Latino driven musicals. “In The Heights”, “West Side Story”, and “Emilia Pérez” were all bombs. This will be no different.

Second, presenting this as a musical was the worse move they could have made. The trailers for “La La Land”, “West Side Story”, “Wonka”, “Spirited”, and “Wicked” all hid that they were musicals to not scare off audiences.

And lastly, the production looks terrible. It reminds me of how blurry “Mame” is to hide Lucille Ball’s aged face. With this movie, it looks like they had to soften and saturate and CGI everything to balance making Jenny looking younger.

by Anonymousreply 36June 6, 2025 5:42 AM

You're telling on yourself when you say "It looks gay!" like it's an insult.
