Jessica Kirson's standup special "I'm the Man"

I adore her, find her hilarious, and wanted to like this, but I watched it the other night and it felt disjointed to me. It had some funny moments, but something was off about it. Did you watch it, and if so, what were your thoughts?

I don’t find her funny at all but I’m definitely not her audience.

There’s a whole genre of stand-up comedy that feels engineered for urban-dwelling, college-educated, NPR-listening, oat-milk-drinking, liberal white audiences who want their comedy to be affirming, safe, and “aware.”

She's not my thing. I like comedians who are funny, witty, tell jokes, stories, comment on society and other observations.

Jessica Kirson is one of those comedians such as Matt Rife, who are not funny and who do nothing but "crowd work" insulting audience members by basically calling on someone and asking, "What's your name, what do you do?" And then when the audience member responds, Kirson, Rife, etc., insults and embarrasses them. It's lazy, bullshit work on stage and it's not funny. Yes, it can be mildly humorous on occasion, but an entire act of that shit shows very little talent.

I want the comedian to demonstrate some comedic skills and entertain me--I don't want to be part of their act.

Crowd work is crap.

Joan Rivers didn't spend the entire night asking, "What's your name, what do you do?" She worked on her act. She told jokes, she was funny. She had a command of the stage. Her entire act didn't revolve around asking someone about their job and then making fun of the person in the audience who is likely to be embarrassed by such a lack of imagination by the comedian on stage.

Jessica Kirson, Matt Rife are one-trick ponies whose act is old and boring.

I want to like her, but she's ... not great.

I have always liked her, but she is another one who looks better with a few extra pounds.

I love the videos she made with Zach Braff, who is I think her stepbrother:
