OMG they fixed the color grading
FLOP!

They're waiting again until November? It's not like they tore up the award ceremonies - why not release it in the Summer?
Meh - now that I think about it, the Studio probably already had their planned Summer releases and this was slated for holiday season for more merch. Makes sense.
I hope they show double features of this - that would be a very smart move.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 5, 2025 1:42 AM |
R2 let me explain the concept of “holiday releases” to you
The two biggest movie seasons are summer and holiday
Summer is for BOOM and holiday is for warm and fuzzy
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 5, 2025 1:49 AM |
That looks great! Perhaps even better than the first!!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 5, 2025 1:53 AM |
So Crash vs Cry, Wow vs. Waaah, Boom vs. Boohoo?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 5, 2025 1:53 AM |
Erivo is the ONLY reason to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 5, 2025 2:44 AM |
I don't recall Toto ever being on a leash in the original movie?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 5, 2025 4:41 AM |
Yeah, r1, I hear no one watched the first film at all.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 5, 2025 4:49 AM |
R8 Go pull that broomstick out of your ass, Elphie.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 5, 2025 5:42 AM |
r2, think like an exec. It was a financial success last November, so why change it up?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 5, 2025 6:07 AM |
Erivo has the voice yes but this is a MOVIE and green or natural she is too hideous for an on screen witch.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 5, 2025 7:02 AM |
When Dorothy stepped into that puddle, this profound feeling of glee came over me. And a little puddle of my own appeared down there, in my pants.
I just love that character and Judy Garland so much, I can't quite put it into words.

This was always planned as a two parter spread over a year's time and meant to come out for the holidays. Settle down.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 5, 2025 1:15 PM |
Fuck this movie.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 5, 2025 1:23 PM |

Uh, yes. People everywhere are commenting on how much better it looks in that regard.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 5, 2025 1:38 PM |
Uh, that has nothing to do with them having "fixed" the color. The picture is just a little darker, that's all.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 5, 2025 1:41 PM |
Uh, no, they fixed the colour grading in post. Which is where you do colour grading.
Just stop.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 5, 2025 1:42 PM |
I don't think I can endure another season of Ariana and Cynthia holding hands and pretending to be besties at every talk show and awards ceremony appearance.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 5, 2025 1:43 PM |
I don't think it can carry the momentum of the first movie... the second act always lacked the punch of the first. Strong opening weekend, then sinks like a stone on word of mouth.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 5, 2025 1:45 PM |
It's not like they tore up the award ceremonies
Neither did the first two Lord of The Rings movies. Once they completed the trilogy and the voting members had time to assess the full trilogy, they [italic]cleaned up[/italic].
Awards don't go to unfinished films series. When a film is part of a pre-planned series and the films' productions are combined into one huge undertaking, recognition is withheld until the series is competed.

Bowen Yang says Wicked: For Good will “emotionally shatter” audiences:
“I think this movie is going to leave people completely devastated emotionally,” the actor said in a recent interview with Access Hollywood.

Ahhh Honey they managed to make ACT 1 a worldwide hit with almost $800 million gross. You really don't think they will improve the second act or at least try?

Spoiler! No he becomes the next wizard and star of the next two installments.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 5, 2025 3:10 PM |
I just hate that we're going to have ANOTHER award season with Cynthia's ridiculous nails, nose rings, and weird fashion. And Ariana wearing pink tutu-like dresses and staring overly wide-eyed in interviews.
We get it - you think of yourself as an outsider and want to stand for those who feel marginalized. But sticking more metal into your ears and nose and walking around with 3 inch pointed nails isn't going to make you more endearing.

Twitter pretends to reveal the identity of the actress playing Dorothy.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 5, 2025 8:10 PM |
They are going to CGI Judy Garland into the film as Dorothy. That's why they didn't show her face in the trailer. I guess Liza and Lorna gave their permission to use Judy's likeness.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 5, 2025 9:06 PM |
R36. I'll take the boy...you take the chin...yeesh.

R39. What about Joey?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 5, 2025 10:42 PM |
I really hope they don't CGI Judy. Totally unnecessary.

The start looked like the Lady Gaga AHS
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 6, 2025 12:19 AM |
R32, no, hon, I really don't. An overhyped, bloated part one of a musical coasting on the longing of high school misfits and one good song.
The gloomy second part tanks.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 6, 2025 3:29 AM |
I’d better get a fucking Barbie this time!!!
They are going to CGI Judy Garland into the film as Dorothy.
That would have been lovely, but that's not the fabric of Judy's dress, so it's not likely. I heard talk after Part I came out that it's a young British actress. She was named, but it didn't mean anything to me.
As for its likely success, the people who were keen to see Part 1 were mostly people who had seen the show, or been curious about the show but had not been able to see it. The people who are keen to see Part 2 are those people plus the very many who saw Part 1 against their better judgment and loved it. All of them are going into the second half deeply invested in what happens to the characters, and there is plenty of room for Schwartz and Holzman to expand the second half to make you care even more about them. Chu has been saying since the Part 1 promos that the first half is about choices and the second half about their consequences, so audiences will expect it to be darker. There is also the circular nature of the show, which from the trailer it appears Chu is wisely going to spell out more clearly. I think when audiences re-watch the original after seeing Part 2 they will be moved by all manner of things they haven't been already, starting with the opening scene, so word of mouth will be "you have to see Part 2 to really appreciate Part 1".
I know much of DL would like to see it flop, but the only way it will is if the expansions merely bloat it instead of increasing the audience's emotional investment. For most people, that didn't happen in the first half, and the book of the second half was always too short to let the characters breathe.
The people who are keen to see Part 2 are those people plus the very many who saw Part 1 against their better judgment and loved it.
And R50, there are many many of us who are only watching it because the sublime Cynthia Erivo is in it. We wouldn’t have fucking bothered otherwise.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 6, 2025 12:19 PM |
I saw Part 1 against my better judgment and afterward learned to trust my judgment going forward.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 6, 2025 12:29 PM |
Why didn't you like it, R52?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 6, 2025 12:36 PM |
R53 I thought it was a bloated, overhyped mess. A 30-minute story that they tried to extend for nearly three hours. In addition, the whole movie had a "washed out" look, and I thought some of the CGI was sloppy looking.
And don't get me started on the useless inclusion of Bowen Yang, who did nothing to propel the story along or even provide any comic relief. Then there's Michelle Yeoh, who can't act and always sounds like she's just reciting the script.
The only actor that I thought brought any kind of charisma or excitement to the role was Jonathan Bailey, and there was far too little of him in Part 1.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 6, 2025 12:50 PM |
Bailey is a stah! But truly, the guy is a like (an actually talented) star from the old days. He brings something to everything he appears in. He's a talented actor with that pixie dust that makes him pop.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 6, 2025 1:42 PM |
Thanks, R54. Actual criticism! I don't agree (I loved it) but I see your points. Fair enough!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | June 6, 2025 1:59 PM |
It was a long film, but it didn’t feel it to me. I thought the pace was very even and flowed well.
I definitely agree about Yang being a totally unnecessary addition. What, they felt the mean gay theatre kids didn’t have enough divas to identify with already?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 6, 2025 2:06 PM |
I actually fell asleep in the theater and missed about 30 minutes of the movie. I thought the whole movie dragged along, including the ending. Every time I thought Cynthia Erivo was gonna sing her "Defying Gravity" song and fly away, they'd add some unnecessary dramatic interlude. That entire finale went on way too long. I found my inner voice screaming, "Just end this goddamn thing already!"
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 6, 2025 2:18 PM |
I found the film so awful that midway through, I dropped dead. I'm posting from the afterlife. It was THAT BAD.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 6, 2025 3:30 PM |
Honey, I'm not sure how many people on here can top anything.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 6, 2025 3:43 PM |

I’m still enjoying the music from the original stage play.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | June 7, 2025 3:13 AM |
While we're on the second half, I've always thought it's a bit forward to say right to someone's face when he's about to have sex with you for the first time:
"And if it turns out it's over too fast
I'll make every last moment last"
I reckon at that point I'd have hopped on my horse and gone back to Glinda.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 7, 2025 3:32 AM |
R65, I’m not sure that lyric is a reference to premature ejaculation but you do you.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | June 7, 2025 3:34 AM |
R65. You're a sick, perverted FUCK! She's talking about "'this moment." She's not talking about the act of sex. Now go feed the poor child you have locked up in your basement, you twisted FUCK!
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 7, 2025 6:29 AM |
Really? The line that can't be crossed on the DL is premature ejaculation jokes?
