I saw this movie in the spring of 1980 with my parents. We all enjoyed it then went to Friendly's afterwards for an ice cream sundae.
Many have said BD was better in this movie than Jessica Lange was in Sweet Dreams. Jessica did NOT sing the songs and here in this movie Beverly sang her own songs and did a much better job overall even though she only had a bit part in Coal Miner's Daughter.

Beverly D’Angelo was cheated out of an Oscar nomination. She was exceptional in her role.

Agreed, she was superb and then some in that role. More than anything, it's her that I remember from the film. Any scene that she was in was her scene, without ever attempting to steal a thing from anyone or anything else.
