Experts Say Doing This 1 Thing Can Lower Your Risk Of Colon Cancer — And It’s Easier Than You Think
This specific type of cancer is on the rise in people 50 and younger in the U.S. — but there’s hope.
Dense bean salads, which use beans as a salad base instead of lettuce, are all the rage on social media for good reason. The beans, along with the fresh veggies in the dish, help you reach your daily fiber goal, a number that experts say most Americans don’t hit, which isn’t good. Eating enough fiber is a crucial way to reduce your risk of colon cancer, a type of cancer that’s on the rise in people 50 and younger in the US.
(It’s recommended that women eat roughly 25 grams of fiber each day while men consume about 38 grams, but most adults eat roughly 10 grams of fiber each day.)

Eating enough fiber helps move your stool through your digestive tract.
“Fiber plays an important role in the health of the colon, and when the colon gets unhealthy, then we’re set up for development of cancer and other inflammatory diseases,” said Quinton.
Overall, fiber adds bulk to the stool, which helps with proper colon function.
“[Fiber] makes the stools more easy to move along, so the time that the stool spends in the colon is lessened, so less chance for constipation, more normal stools,” explained Quinton.

This is also good for the removal of toxins: “If there are any toxins in the stool that lead to cancer, they spend less time in the colon, and therefore lessen the chances of cancer exposure or other diseases,” he said.

A delicious and easy bean source is edamame. I eat a frozen bag a week that I have steamed in its bag in my microwave. Season with sea salt and go to town!

I spent last year fighting Stage 3 colon cancer. Since then, I gave up meat, have daily hummus and steel-cut oats, and upped my vegetable and fruit intake. I'm now pushing myself to exercise daily for at least 40 minutes since an international study found that reduced the risk of recurrence by 30 percent. My physician wants me to have one cruciferous vegetable and berries every day.
I was very lucky. to recover without an ostomy. I don't want to push my luck again.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things R5. That must have been so scary for you. I wish you many years of good health.
I really think that the increase in colon cancer is due to the rise in keto/carnivore type diets. So many people view carbs in any form as the enemy & that includes very healthy carbs like- steel cut oats, fruit, sweet potatoes, beans, etc. I have been vegan for 17 years and have watched many of my colleagues/friends go on extremely high protein/low carb diets - with terrible implications for their health.
You don't have to go vegan but I do wish that people cared about fibre intake as much as protein. Me and my partner eat 50-70 grams of fibre a day.

I tried this but it's not compatible with working in an office.
I take metamucil instead. Works very well. The powder in water, not the gummies.
