“Frankenstein” starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth teaser trailer!

Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein looks INCREDIBLE. Omg. I remember when this was announced and I rolled my eyes but this actually looks good. I got excited for this one after seeing this trailer.

I can’t wait for this.

Idk if this one looks better

Looks awful.

Less is more.

Funny how the special effects of the 1930s were so much more effective than this.

by Anonymousreply 2June 1, 2025 1:32 AM

Looks amazing. Disagree r2 but respect your opinion.

I think this looks fun.

by Anonymousreply 3June 1, 2025 1:33 AM

Will Mia Goth be playing the monster?

by Anonymousreply 4June 1, 2025 1:34 AM

R4 do you know that Frankenstein is a male?

by Anonymousreply 5June 1, 2025 1:37 AM

That does look good.

R4 are you slow or are you slow? Elordi is the monster.

by Anonymousreply 6June 1, 2025 1:38 AM

Del Toro produces great images but he tends to make his movies longer and more convoluted than necessary, Nightmare Alley being the case in point. The original ran 40 minutes shorter and told the same story better.

by Anonymousreply 7June 1, 2025 1:38 AM

Bless your heart, r6.

by Anonymousreply 8June 1, 2025 1:41 AM

I was so hot for Elordi back when I first saw him shirtless in that teen flick The Kissing Booth.

All his hotness leeched away the more frequently he opened his mouth. I'm stunned he didn't become as hated as Brie Larson.

by Anonymousreply 9June 1, 2025 1:44 AM

He’s a cutie

Looks like they are keeping the structure of the novel, which may be interesting.

by Anonymousreply 11June 1, 2025 3:05 AM

Rory Kinnear was my favorite Frankenstein.

by Anonymousreply 12June 1, 2025 3:22 AM

Hope it is better than that Kenneth Branagh & Bobby DeNiro shit from my teen years.

by Anonymousreply 13June 1, 2025 3:25 AM

I think it looks distinguished.

by Anonymousreply 14June 1, 2025 4:13 AM

Why is the monster wearing yellow Lululemon boxer briefs when he is being created in Frankenstein's laboratory?

by Anonymousreply 15June 1, 2025 4:17 AM

Product placement, r15.

by Anonymousreply 16June 1, 2025 4:21 AM

I notice they don't show any of Puttin' on the Ritz.

by Anonymousreply 17June 1, 2025 4:38 AM

Much like Nosferatu, a story that needs to be told for the umpteenth time.

by Anonymousreply 18June 1, 2025 5:56 AM

There should be a gay angle, like he's trying to build his own boyfriend.

by Anonymousreply 19June 1, 2025 6:14 AM

The visuals look gorgeous

by Anonymousreply 20June 1, 2025 8:21 AM

I’ll see you on the the most disappointing movie thread OP.

by Anonymousreply 21June 1, 2025 8:28 AM

OH WOW THIS LOOKS INCREDIBLE !!!!!! 👍🥳👍🤩👍😱👍!!!!! I CANT WAIT FOR THIS!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 22June 1, 2025 8:34 AM

Should be a remake of "Young Frankenstein"

by Anonymousreply 23June 1, 2025 9:45 AM

They better include the pivotal moment when the housekeeper offers the doctor a nice glass of ovaltine.

by Anonymousreply 24June 1, 2025 11:51 AM

I'm not one to talk since I didn't appreciate art direction and set design until I ignored the characters and dialog in "Fifty Shades of Grey" and ended up having great fun spotting dozens of tones grey behind the characters in the sky, wall paintings, furniture...

...but I agree with r2.

I'm in, anyway.

Cherry Pepsi and bucket of popcorn slathered in that that delicious industrial byproduct they so generously refer to as "butter" at the ready, I'll see this at the theatre when it opens.

by Anonymousreply 25June 1, 2025 12:12 PM

[quote]Hope it is better than that Kenneth Branagh & Bobby DeNiro shit from my teen years.

That was not only the worst Frankenstein movie ever made, but one of the worst films of any type to ever hit theaters. I remember walking out on it about 45 minutes in. Never saw the rest of it.

by Anonymousreply 26June 1, 2025 12:30 PM

Branagh's Frankenstein looked incredible on the big screen, no expense was spared when it came to the set design and costumes. But it was ultimately a very poor movie that both scriptwriters hated. Branagh's films as director are always beautiful to watch even if you don't like other aspects - Dead Again, Thor, the Poirot ones, Cinderella and all the Shakespeare adaptations.

Del Toro is a great visual director and it will be disappointing to watch this on a tv and not in the cinema.

by Anonymousreply 27June 1, 2025 1:00 PM

Never saw the rest of it.

They moved in together.

by Anonymousreply 28June 1, 2025 1:10 PM

Why, Guillermo?

Why?

by Anonymousreply 29June 1, 2025 1:22 PM

[quote]Del Toro produces great images but he tends to make his movies longer and more convoluted than necessary,

I would say the same is true of Peter Jackson and John M. Chu, also sometimes true of Spielberg. I think most or all of their movies would be better if they could be more ruthless about leaving unnecessary stuff on the cutting room floor.

by Anonymousreply 30June 1, 2025 1:23 PM

I love anything Frankenstein and will definitely watch this.

by Anonymousreply 31June 1, 2025 2:41 PM

Maybe I'm too jaded at this point, but I find the visuals boring. The photographic aesthetics are pretty much what we see for ten - twenty years now. Everything is overdone with the help of CGI. The sets don't look real. I get it, computers can do so much more than a generation ago, but it still doesn't look natural. At this point I happily take the set of a castle interior that looks smaller but real. I don't want a movie that looks like a video game. I want a movie that looks like I could be in the scene. Pull in the carpenters and build something.

by Anonymousreply 32June 1, 2025 3:14 PM

R32 you’re too jaded.

by Anonymousreply 33June 1, 2025 3:26 PM

Oscar Isaac sounds ridiculous

by Anonymousreply 34June 1, 2025 3:36 PM

Elordi is playing Igor, right?

by Anonymousreply 35June 1, 2025 3:53 PM

Agreed. Not to mention the bombastic "music" and sound effects we've heard a million times.

Watch how the original 1931 version was so artfully, so poetically done. Engrossing and scary.

Is their going to be "HOMO SEX" Frankenstein style or mutual jerking off. Gay Rape Frankenstein, going to "pound Town" on hot male villages boys?

by Anonymousreply 37June 1, 2025 4:16 PM

^^^It's not my fault, I had a violent, sexual childhood^^^

My parents did it!!

by Anonymousreply 38June 1, 2025 4:19 PM

[quote] Maybe I'm too jaded at this point, but I find the visuals boring.

I agree, and I didn't feel any excitement about the acting either. I don't think this movie will help Jacob Elordi win any Oscars. He needs to do more movies like Saltburn or maybe something like Anora.

by Anonymousreply 39June 1, 2025 4:23 PM

R39 who said Oscars are expected for him? He’s a young actor trying to build his resume. He isn’t gonna pass up a chance at working with a big director like Guillermo.

You’re literally the only one mentioning Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 40June 1, 2025 5:00 PM

“Too jaded”

Of what? Movies? Does anyone wanna let this … “person”… know he doesn’t have to watch it? It’s 2025 and he is American. He has the free will to not watch it. Why is he acting like it’s something he has no choice but to do?

The visuals look gorgeous. Much better than drab grayscales and blacks movies like this love using.

Also, the film was filmed on real properties and locations. Those aren’t sets.

by Anonymousreply 41June 1, 2025 5:04 PM

[quote] You’re literally the only one mentioning Oscars.

R40 Yes, I am. Do you have a problem with that? I'm providing my commentary along with everyone else. I didn't really say anything bad about Jacob, so put your claws away. You seem to be taking this personal.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with building a resume, sweetheart. All I did was suggest some other genres. And if you don't think that every actor in show business isn't vying for the highest honor in the land, then you're clueless and shouldn't even be here.

by Anonymousreply 42June 1, 2025 5:20 PM

“ There's absolutely nothing wrong with building a resume”

Not r40 but… Ummm, of course there isn’t. Part of the working field is BUILDING A RESUME. You won’t get hired at most decent jobs without one. Same goes for Hollywood. You saying “there is nothing wrong with it” is just silly. Have you never worked a job? You wanna build a good resume. That’s what leads to larger pay and better work.

No. Not every actor takes a job with Oscar in mind. They take the job because they got the job. This is a Netflix film. In case you didn’t know, films aren’t eligible for Oscars unless they are placed in theaters FIRST for a certain amount of time before hitting streaming.

by Anonymousreply 43June 1, 2025 5:25 PM

I had a therapist when I was maybe 22 or 23. One day he was dozing off whilst I was whining on and on about some sort of coming out mishegoss. Finally he interjected and told me I was Frankenstein’s monster. I felt offended and told him I’d never read it; he told me he was sorry that my public education failed me. If you look up “DL eldergay” in the dictionary, there’d be a little illustration of this guy with a “move it along, toots” word bubble.

Anyways, I read it. Frankenstein is without qualification my favorite novel. No adaptation has treated the monster as a sympathetic antihero, which is exactly what he was in the book. At its heart, it’s a story about a pitiable creature abandoned by his creator and thrust into a world that abhorred his existence. Alas, a monster movie isn’t going to sell tickets if it’s some sort of étude on existence and epistemology. Maybe they could just add a musical number where the monster sings “What Was I Made For” from the Barbie movie.

by Anonymousreply 44June 1, 2025 5:32 PM

R43 Yeah, you are taking this personal for some reason, Mary. You're splitting hairs over a small paragraph. You're all wound up like some publicist on coke. I suggest you get some sunshine and touch grass as the kids would say. Like I told you, I say anything bad about Jacob, but I may not give you the same grace. My comment clearly had nothing to do with you. Buzz off.

by Anonymousreply 45June 1, 2025 5:37 PM

I paused this halfway through because I don't want to be spoiled. This looks amazing. I'll be there to watch on the big screen.

I'm a massive fan of the classic Universal monster series as well as the Hammer versions. Del Toro has such an exquisite visual eye that I trust him fully with this. He was born to make Gothic horror.

by Anonymousreply 46June 1, 2025 5:39 PM

There is nothing to spoil in the trailer, R46. Quit Marying and watch the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 47June 1, 2025 5:52 PM

I did, and was sorry afterwards, R47. Cheap CGI ruins everything.

by Anonymousreply 48June 1, 2025 5:56 PM

Guillermo is no stranger to that. He made Blade II and it’s one of the best action/comic book movies ever made, but I’ll be damned if there aren’t some cartoonish CGI sequences he should’ve left out.

by Anonymousreply 49June 1, 2025 6:00 PM

CGI was still in its toddler age when Blade II came out. It didn’t get done well until Avatar.

by Anonymousreply 50June 1, 2025 8:30 PM

R48 tell me what CGI looked bad… because there isn’t much of it in this trailer.

by Anonymousreply 51June 1, 2025 8:31 PM

R45 you’ve clearly never worked a real job. How sad.

by Anonymousreply 52June 1, 2025 8:31 PM

R52 My job is to shit on you, and your job is to open wide. Sad is your pathetic fan gurl existence. Get it right, you cunt.

by Anonymousreply 53June 1, 2025 8:46 PM

This trailer fell flat for me. Oscar's acting feels like he's trying too hard.

by Anonymousreply 54June 1, 2025 11:18 PM

R51 - It was when the monster threw the man overboard (? - I just watched the once). Unrelated: I hated the MCU aspect of that scene. Maybe it was put in to appeal to those fans. Anyway, the speed, color, and rendering when he's in the air is absolute shit. When the CGI reminds you of the Quidditch match in the first Potter film, it's not good.

I don't understand why we're seeing deterioration in the quality of these effects in recent years. One would think the software would have improved and been more readily available across film budgets.

Anyway...

by Anonymousreply 55June 1, 2025 11:53 PM

Jacob Elordi should have got top billing. Hes the most famous.

by Anonymousreply 56June 2, 2025 12:11 AM

R55 it comes out November. They have time to touch up all of that

by Anonymousreply 57June 2, 2025 12:22 AM

For some reason, some of the sets remind me of the Wizard of Oz.

r44, you should watch Frankenstein: The True Story, which was a made for TV film made in 1973. That is my favorite version because the monster is the sympathetic anti-hero, and they do a terrific take on the "bride". It's on Amazon right now.

by Anonymousreply 58June 2, 2025 12:39 AM

They aren’t sets.

by Anonymousreply 59June 2, 2025 6:31 AM

One phrase from the trailer is apt. Mary Shelley did, indeed, "create death". Her distinguished mother died in childbirth (with her) and she herself lost three children before or shortly after birth. Her early romance with the married Shelley burgeoned through secret meetings at her mother's graveside. His wife suicided during Mary's first pregnancy. It was as though she was cursed that birth and death would be irrevocably connected in her life. So the real impetus for the story was exclusively, intrinsically feminine, and couldn't be more different from what generations of men have made it seem on film.
