The 2003 remake of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"

Some derided this Jessica Biel-headlined remake of the 1974 classic as an "MTV" version of the original, which is in some ways true, but I rewatched this the other night for the first time in quite awhile, and it has admittedly grown on me. It's surprisingly stylish, suspenseful, and has some fantastically executed sequences throughout. I hold the original film in high regard—in fact, I'd probably consider the best horror film ever made—but as far as remakes go, I think this one has held up. It gets points for having three smoking hot male leads (Eric Balfour, Mike Vogel, and Jonathan Tucker), plus one of the most effective horror film trailers I can recall in this century. Were/are you a fan?

Saw it in the theatre as a teen, it looked so much better on the big screen than in that clip where it looks like a shitty TV show. Everyone looked sweaty constantly and you really got to feel that oppressive heat coming through. Enjoyed it a lot.

Male actors were indeed hot, but the cast overall was just about serviceable, acting-wise.

One thing about the 2000s Texas Chainsaw movies is they have great male eye candy. The best eye candy in horror since the 80s. I don’t know about the most recent ones.

Eric Balfour in this movie was one of my first crushes as a young gay teenager. Mike Vogel was a close second.

I actually think all of the performances in this movie are quite good. Pretty believable from all the younger cast. R. Lee Ermey is outrageous in it in the best way possible.

r3 I had the same experience. He has that jock chin that promises equally impressive things downstairs.

R5 Eric is a beautiful Jewish prince, but unfortunately he isn't packing. He showed his cock onscreen and it is not large. It's been discussed on DL before. Maybe he's a grower, but I frankly find him so sexy that it doesn't even matter.

WHET Erica Leerhsen? She was in two of my favorite horror flicks of the early aughts (this, and "Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2"). She did some indie flicks and was in one of the "Wrong Turn" sequels along with a few Woody Allen movies, and then she just vanished.

All horror movies cast a bevy of hotties now. They're boring.

I feel I should see it. Saw the original around 1976-77 at a little midnight repertory. The projectionist & whatever else he did let us know he was up for no shenanigans and said troublemakers would be thrown out. Yikes.

Then he said, "ALL RIGHT YOU SADISTIC PERVERTS. HERE WE GO"

It's difficult to believe given how glossy the remake is, but it was actually shot by Daniel Pearl, the same cinematographer who shot the original 1974 film.

I haven't watched it in years but I remember enjoying it at the time. One of the few decent remakes that came out in that era.

I remember at the time there were behind the scenes pics (maybe even video) of Eric Balfour dropping his pants and showing off his sweet bubble butt. He may not be super well hung but I'm most interested in getting inside that hot hole.

I thought it was gross. I hated that era of horror movies.

Agree OP, This was actually quite an excellent remake. Love this 2003-2008 era- I was 23-28.. Great times.

R11 there is behind-the-scenes footage of him stripping down on his last day on the set and walking off as a sort of comedic bit. He turns around and throws his pants in the air and you can see a bit of his bush/dick. There is also some footage of him ass naked lying onErica Leerhsen while they're on an intertube in the river. It was included in a documentary on the making of the movie which was on the DVD. I remember it well.... trust me.

An excellent remake. It captured the vibe of the original well while making it modern. The grimy, sweaty atmosphere is well done. The cinematography is often beautiful.
