Pope Leo XIV to share video message during Mass and celebration in Chicago on June 14--the same day as Trump's military parade
Though Pope Leo XIV is on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, the pontiff’s supporters will get to hear from him at a Mass and celebration of his election next month at Rate Field.
Pope Leo will offer a “special video message to the young people of the world,” at the event, which is scheduled for June 14 at 333 W. 35th St., home of the White Sox, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced.
The “once-in-a-lifetime celebration” will include music, film, in-person testimonials and prayer, the archdiocese said. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated after the program.

Pope Leo will be celebrating a mass in Chicago on the same day as Trump’s birthday military parade. The Chicago crowd is estimated to top 1 million people... far larger than the expectations for the parade.

R4 is right. Between coordinating with the city for security and finding a Saturday when the Sox are away and doing it as close as possible to the Pope's installment, June 15th was the best day schedule and logistics-wise. That it's on the day of the Army/Trump birthday parade is just a happy circumstance.
R1 - I haven't found any confirmation that Grant Park is going to be used as a facility to accommodate a million people. I don't know if the city would want to deal with that. The million estimate comes from the the 1979 mass John Paul II celebrated in-person in Grant Park where that was the crowd size.
