Who will get the Kennedy Center Honors this year?

I've been putting in votes for Liza and Johnny Mathis for years now. Johnny just retired, and Liza has been unofficially retired (I think). If Johnny accepts the nomination, we can cite the memory issues causing him to retire. But I hate to think what the reaction would be for Liza. I'm adding a link to their website, where artists can be nominated.

All the worthy, eligible, interesting performers are either dead, dying, or have already been honored.

No, R5 -there's one more category of worthies: those who would refuse it because Trump.

I don't live in the U.S., but I think there were performers during the first Trump administration who said that being awarded is a great honor regardless of who the president is, since presidents come and go, but the recognition from the country is forever (I've heard the same excuse from non-Trump-voting athletes who were invited to the White House). It's a bit harder to justify this time around.

One thing you can be sure of - there will be no hip-hoppers on the list; replaced by country singers.

The KCH are generally pretty dull, but one of the things that makes them entertaining are the younger entertainers paying tribute to these individuals. I would imagine the current regime will round up a bunch of MAGA favorites that friends & colleagues no longer speak to

Okay -I'm taking bets. Trump will find a way to get a KCH for himself, for his services to entertainment over the years. Home Alone 2! The Associate! The Apprentice! And reorganizing the center itself!

If he chooses Mathis or Liza and if they accepted, I would be crushed.

The Board of Trustees makes the selections. The chair is President Shit-for-Brains.

Liza’s a good choice, R1, and I think she’d go to DC to accept. But someone’s got to explain to her that Lyndon Johnson isn’t president anymore.

Liza Minnelli and Johnny Mathis should be at the top of anyone's list. They are long overdue and well-deserving. However, it is a shame if they were selected by this horrible Trump committee.

But having said that, they are both getting older and perhaps running out of time. Art should rise above politics. Liza and Johnny should be honored and should accept.

Why Liza and Johnny have not received a Kennedy Center honor before now is disgraceful, and previous committees should hang their heads in shame.

People remember that a particular artist received the honor--people don't remember who the president was when the artist received it.

Remember, Barbra accepted her KCH from George Bush, of who she was a very outspoken critic. She even accepted his kiss, IIRC. She's the gold standard.
