Harrison Ruffin Tyler, the grandson of the 10th president John Tyler, died on Sunday at the age of 96. His father was 75 when he was born. John Tyler became president in 1841 and held the office through 1845, but the Whig Party did not nominate him for re-election.
He had a hot pedigree, but he couldn't last forever.

Wild to think that there was someone alive in 2025 whose father was born in 1853, before the Civil War.

His grandfather John was born in 1790. Three generations, 235 years from the birth of the first to the death of the last. Incredible

Pearl, the youngest, was born in 1860, when Tyler was 70 years old; she died in 1947.

R6 If Robert DeNiro’s daughter Gia lives until 96, it’ll be the year 2119. Robert was born in 1943.

My mother will very shortly turn 103. (June 1) . Her father was 50 when she was born. He was born in 1871 or 1872. So occasionally multiple generations of parents procreating after 50 combined with children from the next generation living very long lives can create these incredible spans. It is rather mind-boggling.

Nope, in my 60s. I was born when my mom was in her late 30s.

I believe the earliest president with a living grandchild is now Grover Cleveland, which still isn't too shabby. I think they are on their 70s. If they live as long as the two Tyler grandsons, the result will be almost as striking. Benjamin Harrison also had a living grandchild until recently.
