Ok but explain the dress, blazer, hair and makeup. Carrying extra weight doesn't mean you have to give up.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 28, 2025 9:23 PM |
She was pregnant. The problem is the outfit and her limp hair. A pink blazer over a print mumu? Ghastly.

Who was gorgeous, might I say.
I do hope Miss Moss doesn’t go on to explode completely, like she did. (Though maybe that ultimately opened up more roles for her.)

Which is why I think she looks good. She's not trying to look like anything but what she is. She looks better to me than Nicole Kidman in that sense.

God, Martin Hewitt was a hot hot hottie.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 29, 2025 1:53 AM |
I agree that her realness is better than Nicole’s fakery. But there’s a huge middle ground between the two. She doesn’t need plastic surgery or clothes from JLo’s closet. But those rags look like they came from the donation bin. And the dress is all crooked on her.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 29, 2025 1:56 AM |
She looks like some 80s house frau.
Or borderline Mormon.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 29, 2025 2:19 AM |
Since she is an actress, it could be argued that it doesn’t matter what she looks like when she’s offscreen.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 29, 2025 2:57 AM |
Funny how she can look both pregnant and post-menopausal at the same time. Kidding.
People have complained here in the past about Moss being "hard on the eyes" (going as far back as her Peggy Olson days). However, a plain, undistinguished, "blank slate" face can be such an asset for an actress, because it allows them to really 'disappear' into roles. I would put Samantha Morton, Vicki Krieps, and Anne Marie McDonald in that same category: character actresses (sorry, actors) who consistently play leads.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 29, 2025 3:06 AM |
Sorry, those weren't the best examples: Samantha Morton USED to play leads before her career fell off a cliff, Vicki Krieps, with apologies to Vin Diesel, plays leads "in Europe," and Anne Marie McDonald is mostly just a solid character actress. Unsurprisingly, there really aren't that many female stars who are not conventionally good-looking. Moss is one of the few.

by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 29, 2025 8:10 AM |
I think the jacket is too loose/doesn't fit & makes her look heavier; also, she looks like she had some work to her face (cheek fillers?) that give her face a bit of a lumpy, misshapen look. Nothing wrong with getting older and a bit heavier, but she looks bloated & sloppy instead of having that pregnancy glow
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 29, 2025 8:33 AM |
I just watched The Handmaid's Tale finale last night and thought she was looking quite chunky. I had no idea she was a Scientologist. That's disappointing.

[quote]r27 Ok but explain the dress, blazer, hair and makeup.
Well, the oversized blazer, at least, is a fashion trend right now.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 29, 2025 9:34 AM |
Even if she stayed in the same outfit, but had it all professionally tailored to her proportions, she would look a million times better (even if it's still a hideous outfit). It looks like she was in the dress and in the middle of the photo shoot they decided that her arms and hips must be covered, so they grabbed a blazer from the back of Debbie in Accounting's chair.

It does if she's coming to parade in front of the cameras for celebrity magazines. It would be one thing if this was just what she wore on the street.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 29, 2025 3:53 PM |
She was definitely attractive when she was thinner and gussied up right. I'd say she's always been about on par with [a less manic pixied] Drew Barrymore, in terms of hotness.

In terms of lead actresses, Elizabeth Moss has the ugliest face in Hollywood. Mushy-faced Sydney Sweeney is runner up.

by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 29, 2025 5:54 PM |
She's got some Scieno connections in showbiz.
They (connections) are definitely there...look at Tammy Cruise, John Travolta, Jason Lee, Leah Remini (now ex-Scieno), Kirstie Alley, Jenna Elfman, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson, Anne Archer, etc. etc.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 29, 2025 6:15 PM |
R76 Apart from Tammy, absolutely none of those people have any sway in showbiz. Laura Prepon and Cruise are the only ones still working in that group.
I haven't seen any evidence that Scientology actually helps anyone's careers in Hollywood.

Elisabeth Moss Says ‘Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)’ Was the ‘Perfect’ Song for ‘Handmaid’s Tale’
"It's such an honor to be able to use her music in the final episodes of our show," Handmaid's star & EP Elisabeth Moss exclusively tells Billboard.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 29, 2025 8:45 PM |
r77 - I am NOT saying those people I listed have sway in Hollywood...I'm saying that there are Scientology connections in Hollywood who can - AND DO - get up and coming actors/actresses jobs, employed in professions that SERVE Hollywood/acting (think agents, casting, etc.).
This is/was well-known and has been for years. It's why the Church of Scientology has a huge presence (not to mention their International Headquarters) in Hollywood. There are plenty of other working actors I didn't list who are also Scientologists, and it's been a racket to get doe-eyed, would-be actors in the doors of the Scientology establishments with the promise of making it big in Hollywood. I suppose I didn't fully formulate my post to include my actual meaning of the Scientologists in Hollywood who aren't actors, but still work in the biz.
Hell, even my GRANDMOTHER - who worked as a waitress in Hollywood/LA for many years during the 60s/70s/80s and waited on movie stars of all sorts - had an L. Ron Hubbard "Dianetics" book in her "library." Before all the exposes/shows/specials on Scientology, their presence was fairly pervasive.

Ten years ago, she had a cute shape. She was not a stick, and had a bit of padding, but she was shapely.
Even in the early seasons of THT, she looked much younger than she does now.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | May 30, 2025 12:55 AM |
Of course she looked much younger in earlier seasons of The Handmaid's Tale than she does now...because she IS older now.
However, her choice of hairstyle and outfit really looks like she was styled by someone from the Midwest in the 80s who was going for the "businesswoman but soft" look.
