Meet the three leads of the new "Harry Potter" series on HBO

Adorable.

He is adorable, but you just never know with kiddie actors how their faces will turn out when puberty hits, there's lots of luck involved. Finn Wolfhard in the most recent seasons of Stranger Things is outright unpleasant to look at, for example. Maisie Williams and Isaac Hempstead Wright from GoT are another two.

They have very Potteresque names. Alastair Stout, etc. Clearly a Hufflepuff.

Cute kids. I wish them the best.

by Anonymousreply 2May 27, 2025 6:10 PM

Happy about Janet McTeer. I’ll watch her in anything.

by Anonymousreply 3May 27, 2025 6:22 PM

No one gives two shits about this.

by Anonymousreply 4May 27, 2025 6:27 PM

Yes! I forgot about Janet McTeer, R3. Thanks for mentioning her. She's brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 5May 27, 2025 6:30 PM

The most overrated book/media franchise of all time.

by Anonymousreply 6May 27, 2025 6:32 PM

I assume I’m the target market for this series as I was age 9 when the first books became popular. My question is this: If the kids are based on the description from the books, why is Snape black?

by Anonymousreply 7May 27, 2025 6:55 PM

CANCEL THESE CHILDREN FOR THEIR OBVIOUS TRANSPHOBIA

#protectthedolls

by Anonymousreply 8May 27, 2025 7:03 PM

r7 Because why shouldn't he be black? He's not a member of any notable wizarding dynasty, it's believed he's only a distant relative of the Prince and Prince-Slytherin families.

[quote]If the kids are based on the description from the books

Hermione is described as having a white face twice in the books, and she's now being played by a mixed race actress. She's from an all-Muggle family, so nothing in the plot hinges on her being white.

Snape's skin color is never described by Rowling.

The girl now playing Hermione has better teeth for the character than Emma Watson. I daresay she'll grow into them just fine, but Hermione had buckteeth at the beginning of the series. They tried fake teeth on Watson but she couldn't speak with them in. (Or out, one could argue.)

by Anonymousreply 10May 27, 2025 7:21 PM

Watson also attended the Keira Knightley school of lower jaw acting, plus she overenunciated her lines. You could almost picture her parents training her like a dog back home. I never could warm up to her for those reasons.

This might be a weird nitpick in advance, but I hope they pick one wand design for each character and then stick to it until the end. Those wands got crazy in the movies.

by Anonymousreply 11May 27, 2025 7:32 PM

How much more can than this cow be milked?

by Anonymousreply 12May 27, 2025 7:49 PM

A LOT more. Probably more so than the Marvel or the Bond or just about any other cow. There is a crazy big untapped market for an HP show, especially overseas where Tr.anny Wars aren't a thing.

People who ask questions like those probably don't have any younger relatives. Just a hunch.

by Anonymousreply 13May 27, 2025 7:55 PM

I would not have recognized McTeer from that photo.

by Anonymousreply 14May 27, 2025 11:02 PM

I don't have a problem with switching out the races of characters like Hermione or Snape.

It's not like they switched out Nick in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf which would fundamentally alter the author's intent for the character.

Now, if they gender swap some characters that would also create some issues. But, other characters, not so much.

by Anonymousreply 15May 27, 2025 11:10 PM

What a little cutie the Harry Potter boy is. The others are cute, too.

by Anonymousreply 16May 27, 2025 11:42 PM

I hope these ones age well. I wonder if the parents were also interviewed.

by Anonymousreply 17May 28, 2025 4:51 AM

I'm sure they and their parents will be getting lots of mental health support as is in vogue today, so they don't end up like Liam Payne. But the original kids have done pretty well for themselves, not a druggie among them.

by Anonymousreply 18May 28, 2025 6:19 AM

Ugh. They're all Hollywood Cutie Poo Child Actors. (yes...or the London equivalent)

I think the first trio was very well cast. None of them were overly cute and actually Rupert and Emma were goofy looking. Daniel looked a bit grave which was appropriate for the role.

This new trio looks like they should be singing and dancing in an advert for McDonalds proclaiming their love for Chicken Nuggets.

by Anonymousreply 19May 28, 2025 8:47 AM

They coached Radcliffe to look graver than the rest, since his character was an orphan. They're clearly not doing that this time around. There's lots of light in those books, that's why those darker bits land so hard.

by Anonymousreply 20May 28, 2025 8:54 AM

They're cute kids. And soon to be fabulously wealthy.

by Anonymousreply 21May 28, 2025 9:25 AM

You're right, they're laughing because they're set for life!

by Anonymousreply 22May 28, 2025 9:28 AM

Not necessarily. HBO doesn’t pay like a big film studio does.

by Anonymousreply 23May 28, 2025 12:19 PM

Listen up kiddos, you'll work for minimum wage for seven years and then you're on your own. Oh, and your father is a faggot and your mother only cares about what I think of you. Now do you remember who you are?

by Anonymousreply 24May 28, 2025 12:50 PM

Daniel Radcliffe was a very unusual child. He wanted to be a real actor so badly that he wasn't put off that goal by being wealthy for life and having ongoing international adulation by the time he was 16. He improved considerably while he was in the role, he took all kinds of admirable risks after Potter to extend people's appreciation of his range and collect new skills, and he doesn't appear to be any kind of diva. They would be very lucky to strike that again with any of these kids.

by Anonymousreply 25May 28, 2025 12:59 PM

Is the girl playing Hermione white enough, or have the racist trolls shat their pants in impotent rage again?

by Anonymousreply 26May 28, 2025 3:18 PM

Half-witted, White Bandwagon Queers and their performative anti-Rowling screeching is about to do me in. Now they're all giving long-winded speeches about all of the actors agreeing to star in the new Harry Potter series! Oh, the caucasity! Naturally this is almost always accompanied by their anti-Israel, anti-Semitic Hamas daily talking points. Not one peep about the 2,000 slaughtered on Oct. 6th, of course!

How do gay people get so swept up in championing the sad gibberish of the Gender Identity Movement and entirely against WOMEN (I'd say "real women", but there's only one kid of woman...a woman), which somehow they don't see as misogynistic? Pretending every Trans identifying male is Laverne Cox, or someone on a Pride float is beyond preposterous. I don't refute their anti-women rage, I just keep my powder dry over here.

by Anonymousreply 27May 28, 2025 3:54 PM

r27 They're afraid of getting cancelled, is the gist of it. According to the bylaws of the Oppression Olympics, even not speaking up is tantamount to participating in the oppression. And so their (mainly online) social cred needs constant, daily maintenance. Because once a POC – or worse, a TWOC – notices that your white ass isn't paying off that perpetual Marsha P. Johnson debt, you'll get publicly called out, and then you're fucking done for and might never recover.

Another part of it is that a certain segment is highly frustrated because they couldn't cancel Trump and Musk. And so they pick on easier targets, hoping to recapture some of that old cancellation magic that gave them such a rush during the MeToo era. It's a bizarre cultural moment we're living through, but there are some encouraging signs on the horizon that it might be nearing its end.

by Anonymousreply 28May 28, 2025 4:42 PM

R27, R28 ladies, put down the pipe!

by Anonymousreply 29May 29, 2025 2:55 AM

Most of my friends who adored the HP books as children will not be watching it, nor will they be showing it to their children, because of Rawlings anti-trans stance.

Couple that with the recent surge in Conservative politics worldwide, this show will not do as well as the producers are hoping. The right hates it because 'witchcraft', and the left hates it because of trans persecution encouraged by the author.

Just like the HP game, it will still make money, but just not in the amounts the OG series did. The author is just a greedy transphobe trying to win back her lost crown.

by Anonymousreply 30May 29, 2025 3:53 AM

Rowlings had the NERVE to say "Women menstruate"!

So much hate!

by Anonymousreply 31May 29, 2025 4:20 AM

R30 You're an idiot.
