I saw a doco about Pretty Woman recently where they said there was a big joke in that Rodeo Drive sequence, but only if you were fashion cognoscenti. The season before, Lagerfeld had sent models down his catwalk wearing voluminous white shirts with tiny blue skirts. So the outfit Vivien was wearing that screamed "streetwalker" to the shopgirls of Rodeo Drive was high fashion still waiting to come down the pike.
