Mr. Mom (1983) starring Michael Keaton and Teri Garr

I just watched Mr. Mom for the first time since I was a wee lad, and I didn’t realize what a good little endearing film it was. I feared that it wouldn’t hold up as stereotypes about dads running the household would be extremely dated and possibly offensive, but it still holds up in 2025. However, I think only a simpleton would be absolutely lost in the grocery store — even dads in 1983.

Keaton and Garr have an amazing chemistry that one just doesn’t see in modern day movies. I can tell this was written by John Hughes as it’s nostalgic suburbia personified, which is what I look for when I want memories of my childhood.

I also love this theme music so much. Times were more simple back then.

I had such a thing for Keaton in that era.

R2 He had the rare combination of being sexy, funny, and intimidating all in the same film.

Another one of those stay at home fathers who can't handle that his wife isn't home to see kids first steps. Yeah, she's WORKING to support you. To be fair, this was one of the first movies of this sort.

I don’t think Michael Keaton has ever show his penis.

I remember seeing this at the theaters with my family as an 8 year old. All I recall is that at the time, it seemed that Teri Garr was in EVERYTHING (because for my 8 year old self, Tootsie and Close Encounters were apparently everything) and I really didn't like Ann Jillian as she was trying to seduce Keaton, and she had red hair. A year or two later, when she was on tv constantly with white/blonde hair, I still didn't like her because she was such a whore in Mr. Mom. Also, there was the requisite going to male strip club scene.

Keaton wrote a lovely message about Garr after her death. He’s an awesome guy!

Why do I find Keaton hot now than ever before!?

by Anonymousreply 11May 25, 2025 9:23 PM

Ann Jillian was on TV every five minutes in the 80s. Years ago we had an epic It's A Living thread that was hilarious.

Why do I find your syntax annoying?

This scene is hilarious to me.
