Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease

Any one else had an experience with this horrible disease. Lost my husband last month after him getting sick just last September

Sorry to hear that OP, did he get it from eating something contaminated? Was a huge deal in the 90s where I grew up.

No known case. Not hereditary and definitely not from bad beef. Sporadic they call it.

I'm very sorry, OP. A truly horrible disease.

I did medical research for 40+ years. I knew of few scientists willing to work with prions in the lab because they are impossible to get rid of. It didn't help that the lead scientist working on prion diseases, Nobel winner Stanley Prusiner, was a major asshole.

[quote]A degenerative brain disorder that leads to dementia and death. The disease may occur spontaneously, be inherited, or be transmitted by contact with infected tissue, such as during a transplant or from eating contaminated meat.

I guess I’m cooking everything Well Done for a while!

Very sorry for you, OP. It seems the very cruelest disease I'm aware of.

R4 Unfortunately, cooking meat until well done has no affect on the abnormally shaped prions that cause CJD or vCJD "Mad Cow Disease". It requires autoclaving. It's actually dangerous to work with for researchers. Cases of CJD occurred historically from natural HGH (from human cadaver pituitary gland). Prior to the development of recombinant HGH, this was the source of the hormone for children with certain forms of dwarfism. Although it was sterilized for injection, it still caused CJD. Roaches and prions will survive a nuclear disaster.

Only one or two cases per million diagnosed around the world each year. It's like the inverse of winning the lottery.

My condolences, OP. I can't even begin to imagine what I would do in this situation. I guess for my own peace of mind I'd just treat it as a freak accident or something.
