Lilo & Stitch is a monster hit, while Mission Impossible bombs

Mission Impossible is playing extremely old - one-third of the audience is over 55. The female under 25 quadrant is only 5%.

Previous Cruise films have done better because he included actors that appealed to younger audiences like Glen Powell and Henry Cavill; the actor that was supposed to play the villain in the final two films, Nicholas Hoult, was replaced due to a scheduling conflict with Esai Morales, who is Cruise’s age and not well-known.

Carrot Top, nice

by Anonymousreply 2May 24, 2025 4:30 PM

MI is played out and only the Boomers like Tom.

by Anonymousreply 3May 24, 2025 4:31 PM

I think the ads for MI are funny: SEE Tom do all these incredible stunts!

by Anonymousreply 4May 24, 2025 4:38 PM

We are going to see Mission impossible tomorrow on an IMAX screen.

by Anonymousreply 5May 24, 2025 4:40 PM

Do we need ANOTHER Mission Impossible movie? Let that franchise die

by Anonymousreply 6May 24, 2025 4:42 PM

Suri, bring me the axe!

by Anonymousreply 7May 24, 2025 4:42 PM
Esai Morales, who is Cruise’s age and not well-known.

Wow. So shady. Tom Cruise wishes he'd aged as wonderfully as Esai Morales.

by Anonymousreply 8May 24, 2025 4:48 PM

I read that as “Esai Morales, who is Cruise’s agent”

by Anonymousreply 9May 24, 2025 4:59 PM

R5 you have no choice how to see it. Big whoop.

by Anonymousreply 10May 24, 2025 5:03 PM

Easi on the eyes….dreamy.

I knew MI would bomb. Too long. Star is too old, no one cares.

Looks like the U S was shut out oot of Cannes.

by Anonymousreply 12May 24, 2025 5:12 PM

Stitch hasn't aged a bit.

by Anonymousreply 13May 24, 2025 5:13 PM

I read that as Stritch. 👽

by Anonymousreply 14May 24, 2025 5:20 PM

When it comes to genres, I don’t do silly, childish, animated or horror.

M:I — Final Reckoning takes a good 40 minutes to get going, but is quite good once you’re past the flashbacks and exposition. And there is something to be said for appealing to an older audience which has had the moviegoing habit since childhood. It’ll make money if not quite the billion it would need to break even.

But I’d still rather see real live actors doing shit than two-dimensional adolescent characters any day. And if that dates me, tough shit and fuck you all.

by Anonymousreply 15May 24, 2025 5:22 PM

Should have kept Rebecca Ferguson and nixed Hayley Atwell.

by Anonymousreply 16May 24, 2025 5:23 PM

Where was La cubana?

by Anonymousreply 17May 24, 2025 5:25 PM

MI was far too long and some of the scenes dragged but when it got going it was great. But I can understand why the running time and slightly lacklustre cast hasn't appealed to a wider audience. Why would you go and see this if you didn't see the previous one or didn't enjoy it?

by Anonymousreply 18May 24, 2025 5:32 PM

Sorry, Tammy, no one believes you in action roles anymore!

by Anonymousreply 19May 24, 2025 5:35 PM

When did we ever?

by Anonymousreply 20May 24, 2025 5:36 PM
M:I — Final Reckoning takes a good 40 minutes to get going, but

There's no "but" after that.

40 minutes is much too long to get going for an action film.

by Anonymousreply 21May 24, 2025 6:14 PM

I'd love to see Lilo and Stritch.

by Anonymousreply 22May 24, 2025 6:31 PM

"Sorry, Tammy, no one believes you in action roles anymore!"

More to the point, no one wants to see Tammy's saggy, 62-year- old tits bouncing around unharnessed.

by Anonymousreply 23May 24, 2025 6:45 PM

R15 40 MINUTES? - that’s 100 websites I’m missing

by Anonymousreply 24May 24, 2025 6:45 PM

In 2042 ChatGPT will give you Lilo and Stritch. Also: President Bongino.

by Anonymousreply 25May 24, 2025 6:51 PM
In 2042 ChatGPT will give you Lilo and Stritch.

Now that is something I'd love to see.

LILO: "You know, you wreck everything you touch. Why not try and make something for a change?"

STRITCH: (Pause.) "LINE!"

by Anonymousreply 26May 24, 2025 6:59 PM

Mission: Impossible supposedly cost in the neighborhood of $400 million because of the pandemic and the strikes. It's supposed to make around $77 on its opening weekend; becoming profitable is going to be a climb.

by Anonymousreply 27May 24, 2025 11:51 PM

Especially if it drops 50% next weekend.

by Anonymousreply 28May 25, 2025 9:42 AM

we were about to get tix for next week, but the 3-hours, plus the 40 minutes of AMC previews, and then La Kidman....is too much.

by Anonymousreply 29May 25, 2025 10:50 AM

I feel a little sorry for Tammy since he talked IMAX into giving him a three week run in IMAX. I can only imagine that there will be sparsely attended IMAX screenings with a few seniors.

by Anonymousreply 30May 25, 2025 10:55 AM

Getting old is not for the weak.

by Anonymousreply 31May 25, 2025 11:05 AM

Hollywood is really dried out. A franchise film and a soulless remake.

by Anonymousreply 32May 25, 2025 11:44 AM

LILO AND STITCH, once intended for Disney Plus, overperforms globally, brining in nearly $350 million worldwide; it is likely to do a billion.

Esai Morales is a vegetarian.

by Anonymousreply 34May 25, 2025 5:06 PM

we've never been a Lilo & Stitch household

by Anonymousreply 35May 25, 2025 5:07 PM

There is a huge cross generational audience for LILO and Stitch. It was a far better decision to release it in theaters.

by Anonymousreply 36May 25, 2025 6:09 PM

Estimated global take for Mission Impossible Final Destination I Mean Reckoning is $200 million. What a note to go out on.

by Anonymousreply 37May 25, 2025 8:20 PM

Esai Morales is a cat lover.

by Anonymousreply 38May 25, 2025 8:23 PM

Hardly a bomb:

Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning after a $20M Saturday, -19% from Friday is still on course for a $63M 3-day, $77M 4-day. The Friday-Sunday take is [bold]easily an open record[/bold] for the Tom Cruise franchise, besting the bow of 2018’s Mission: Impossible — Fallout ($61.2M).

Plus, the fact that the audience is older likely means that the film will have more legs, as oldies don't feel the need to rush out on opening weekend.

by Anonymousreply 39May 25, 2025 8:36 PM

Plus the fact that there was significant inflation just since 2018.

by Anonymousreply 40May 25, 2025 8:39 PM

The gf and I both lost bets with each other, so she has to come with me to see L&S, and I have to go see MI with her, because she still thinks TC is a good actor.

Me: When was he EVER...

I'm betting that with enough remarks about the size of his nose in IMAX we'll stay home.

by Anonymousreply 41May 25, 2025 8:41 PM

I believe it was the best opening day for a MI movie so no, not a flop. Just not as good as Lilo and Stitch.

by Anonymousreply 42May 25, 2025 8:42 PM
Do we need ANOTHER Mission Impossible movie?

Do we need ANOTHER live action remake of a Disney cartoon?

What happened to them putting out original stories? It's just remakes after remakes now.

by Anonymousreply 43May 25, 2025 9:30 PM

One film I want so bad to bomb is the upcoming Fantastic Four film.

by Anonymousreply 44May 25, 2025 9:33 PM

Disney is forever. Many properties and big money. MI is a zombie franchise that needs to be put down for a few years and rebooted. Tammy needs to be moved to a farm in the country with lots of room to play.

by Anonymousreply 45May 25, 2025 9:33 PM
Many properties and big money.

Which isn't a good thing. Even their parks are losing their quiet beauty in favor of commercialized rides featuring the latest character or movie. Disney World is in danger of becoming one extremely overpriced big product placement.

And sorry, but most of their live action remakes are absolute shit and will never hold a candle to the animated originals.

They're losing their touch.

by Anonymousreply 46May 25, 2025 9:38 PM

I get that Tom Cruise is a workaholic but he should have quit MI on a high. It must be disappointing to have the final film bomb.

by Anonymousreply 47May 25, 2025 9:38 PM

But it [italic]didn't[/italic] bomb, r47.

Did you not read the entirety of this thread? It made more money this opening weekend than any MI film ever has.

by Anonymousreply 48May 25, 2025 9:41 PM

Even their parks are losing their quiet beauty…

Ha!

by Anonymousreply 49May 25, 2025 9:44 PM

We don’t know yet if MIFR is a hit yet compared to its $400m budget. It’s a great opening but its weekly grosses are only downhill from here.

by Anonymousreply 50May 25, 2025 11:33 PM

Since Stritch is not available a big screen collab of Lilo and Liza would be quite the thing.

by Anonymousreply 51May 25, 2025 11:50 PM

R48 are you 12? Or, just a Gen Z publicist intern trying to spin this dud as a hit?

by Anonymousreply 52May 26, 2025 12:27 AM

Not even Tammy can save dying Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 53May 26, 2025 12:28 AM

Going to watch MI tomorrow. No interest in the lazy, uncreative shit that is the Stitch remake.

by Anonymousreply 54May 26, 2025 12:31 AM

Tammy was dumb. Should have made sure she had more franchises to milk.

Is "Cocktail 2" happening soon?

by Anonymousreply 55May 26, 2025 12:31 AM

MI is not bombing. So far it's done better than any other movie in the franchise.

It was an extremely expensive film for a lot of reasons. That's the real problem.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 56May 26, 2025 12:36 AM

And to be clear, emphasis on "so far". It's not going to beat the final total of the highest grossing titles in the series , but that's a prediction, not fact right now. It's done extremely well for a MI film to this point. Calling it a bomb is just not right

by Anonymousreply 57May 26, 2025 12:42 AM

Cruise has another franchise — the “Top Gun” franchise, the followup to the original grossed $1.2 billion, so you can expect a third.

by Anonymousreply 58May 26, 2025 2:54 AM
One film I want so bad to bomb is the upcoming Fantastic Four film.

Why? Do you have a reason?

by Anonymousreply 59May 26, 2025 3:10 AM

At some point he will have a stroke doing all of the plane shit.

by Anonymousreply 60May 26, 2025 3:10 AM

Tom Cruise should have bowed out a couple movies ago and created a franchise over which he has full control.

He could have turned it into another Bond-like franchise that they tried to do with Bourne. He should have setup his own replacement.

He could have positioned Powell in a role to take over or any number of other actors.

by Anonymousreply 61May 26, 2025 3:16 AM

Rebecca Ferguson was the first actress who had chemistry with Cruise in a long time. Terrible decision to kill her character off, but maybe she wanted to move on with other projects. Jeremy Renner had a good role, too, but that character disappeared as well, before Renner’s accident.

by Anonymousreply 62May 26, 2025 5:59 AM

R48 = idiot who has never heard on inflation

This is a thirty year old franchise.

The 2000 sequel did $70.8 million in its Memorial Day 4-day. That’s $131 million in today’s money. The new movie only made 58% of that.

The 2018 sequel did $61 million in its three-day. That’s $78 million in today’s money. It made more money in its three-day than in 2025’s four-day.

by Anonymousreply 63May 26, 2025 8:54 AM

$63 million for the 3-day weekend is terrible for a $400 million movie that had massive promo Tom Cruise was everywhere promoting this movie. Both Wicked movies cost less to make than this one MI film.

by Anonymousreply 64May 26, 2025 9:39 AM

I’ve never met a younger person that goes to these stupid movies

by Anonymousreply 65May 26, 2025 12:19 PM

I saw a lot of people complaining about the changes in the live action LILO and Stitch movie. I expected it to bomb.

by Anonymousreply 66May 26, 2025 2:22 PM

My heart breaks for the tiny man.

by Anonymousreply 67May 26, 2025 6:00 PM

R65 Nope because they are at whatever garbage Marvel has regurgitated this week.

by Anonymousreply 68May 26, 2025 6:20 PM
I feel a little sorry for Tammy since he talked IMAX into giving him a three week run in IMAX. I can only imagine that there will be sparsely attended IMAX screenings with a few seniors.

Yeah but each IMAX ticket is $75.

by Anonymousreply 69May 26, 2025 8:15 PM

I saw Mission Impossible yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, and almost everyone in the theater was really old. I'm in my 40s, and I was one of the youngest there. It was kind of surprising, though it aligns with the exit survey demographics for the film, which showed the audience skewed much older than other franchises.

by Anonymousreply 70May 26, 2025 9:47 PM

I wonder why

by Anonymousreply 71May 26, 2025 9:53 PM

I wonder if this will be what finally what breaks the spell of Tom Cruise still being a big box office draw. Top Gun 2 success was fluke and probably benefited just as much from having Glen Powell on the cast as Cruise. Lilo and Stitch being such a hit is not a surprise at all. My understanding is stitch merch has always done well in the Disney parks.

by Anonymousreply 72May 26, 2025 10:05 PM

Still wild to me that the Lilo and Stitch movie was ever on the straight to streaming route. Like the merch sales should have been enough to let Disney know that they had hit on their hands. I’m confident that Lilo and stitch will have a longer tail in theaters than MI8. Kids love to rewatch movies. MI8 best bet is that enough parents see ads for it durning lilo and stitch and decide to see it as a date movie.

by Anonymousreply 73May 26, 2025 10:57 PM

Kids love Stitch. I knew this would be a monster hit during the Snow White roll out debacle.
