My Sister and her MAGA Mind

My sister is full-on MAGA. She didn't used to be; she was once fairly liberal and open-minded, but I strongly suspect she was sucked in by MAGA friends, as well as a steady diet of Fox News, the only channel she watches. We've agreed to never discuss politics, but last week she brought up Biden's cancer diagnosis. I told her I thought it was sad, and she proceeded to go on a tirade about how she doesn't feel sad for him because he's corrupt, a liar, etc., etc. I couldn't let that go.

I brought up the cruelty of the Republican party, then read to her the disgusting tweet Don Jr. put out last week, mocking "Dr." Jill Biden's failure to diagnose her husband. My sister refused to admit it was cruel and inappropriate, and instead went on a rant about how Jill Biden is the evil and cruel one and that she forced her husband to run and that's probably why he's sick now. It was total lunatic shit she was spewing. No matter what I brought up about Trump - his corruption, his ignorance, his destruction of our economy - my sister either claimed "fake news" or did the "yeah, but Biden" or "yeah, but "Obama" or "yeah, but Hillary" deflection game. She even claimed that racism had ended in the U.S. until Obama got into office and stirred everything up again and that our economy is actually thriving under Trump.

I poked factual holes in virtually every statement she made, but that didn't shut her up. I ultimately told her I think that in her heart of hearts, she knows she made a mistake hitching her wagon to Trump and that she knows he's a mess, but because she's gone all in for him for so long now, she can't admit she was wrong about him. Boy, did that ever set her off. Her reaction to that made me think I was spot on in my assessment.

Anybody else have family members who have totally MAGA-ed out? How do you deal with it?

I have family members that a very MAGA and ones that a very liberal. As someone who is in the middle, I have decided to not bring it up because you are not going to change theirs minds. Do you really want to lose a family member over a some politician that only care about themselves and their wallets?

Now, if you two can discuss policy in a civil and fun way, that is different. But bashing politicians and just jumping to "they are corrupt Hitlers," etc. is not doing anybody any good.

My sister is in sales in a deep red state and says that she could never publicly admit to not being a Republican. She would lose clients. Lots of these MAGA ppl probably can’t conceive of thinking otherwise. They have to go with what the apartheid party wants.

by Anonymousreply 11May 24, 2025 4:23 PM

R3 As I said in my original post, I had agreed to never discuss politics with her and it was her who brought up Biden's cancer, not me. When she seemed so giddy about his diagnosis, I couldn't let it go at that point. And not once did I ever call Trump "Hitler" in my discussion with her. I simply poked holes in all of her outlandish tales, factually and calmly.

by Anonymousreply 12May 24, 2025 4:26 PM

Being MAGA means never having to say you’re sorry.

by Anonymousreply 13May 24, 2025 4:29 PM

R1 One of the most hilarious (and terrifying) parts of my last conversation with my sister was when she said she thinks women deserve more rights. I reminded her that she voted for the party that is working actively to deny women their equal rights, which lead down the abortion and Roe v. Wade rabbit hole. During that nightmare rant, she said she thinks fathers of pregnant women should have more rights when it comes to a woman deciding to have an abortion, since the child is part his, too.

"But you think women should have more rights. Explain to me how your view of abortion and men's rights contributes to giving women more rights in that case." Of course, she had no response to that, other than to pivot to how she thinks Planned Parenthood is an evil organization that deserves defunding.

by Anonymousreply 14May 24, 2025 4:31 PM

My friend who isn’t MAGA but hates the Dems go into a big fight with her progressive son. Now he’s not talking to her which is sad. Just don’t talk politics if no minds are going to change and you’ll end up hating each other.

by Anonymousreply 15May 24, 2025 4:33 PM

R15 Again, as I stated before, my sister agreed to never talk politics. But I couldn't be silent when SHE brought up Biden and her happiness over his prognosis.

by Anonymousreply 16May 24, 2025 4:34 PM
R4] no, both parties are going too far on things.

by Anonymousreply 20May 24, 2025 4:38 PM

Curious how Joe Biden “went too far.” What specifically?

by Anonymousreply 21May 24, 2025 4:39 PM

There are lots of people on the left who can’t be talked to. If you’re not with them 100% you’re the enemy. But the MAGA crowd is more insane.

OP?

by Anonymousreply 23May 24, 2025 4:41 PM

People like your sister cannot be helped, OP. You’ll have to put her down.

by Anonymousreply 24May 24, 2025 4:41 PM

At one point during our conversation, my sister said a friend told her about a school in Texas where parents opted out of having their kids participate in sex education class, but the kids were forced to participate anyway. That story sounded fishy to me, so while I was on the phone with her, I did an online search to find that story.

Turns out a school district in Texas had a policy of having parents "opting in" on sex education class. The parents would get a memo from the school detailing what was included in the class, and the parents had to sign the memo to allow their kids to participate. If the signed memo wasn't returned, the kids couldn't participate. That policy was recently changed to an "opt out" process, which was similar. However, the memo the parents receive now requires them to sign and return the memo only if they DON'T want their kids to participate. If they don't sign and return the memo, the kids get sex education training. This confused some parents (mainly the ones who couldn't be bothered to read the memo), and they claimed their kids were "forced" into sex education.

I explained it to my sister and told her that her friend had the facts wrong. I then asked my sister if she ever bothered to look into the facts about that story or if she just accepted her friend's tale without question. My sister said she always trusts what her friend tells her because she's "very intelligent."

Big mistake, obviously. Ah, the power of simple research.

by Anonymousreply 25May 24, 2025 4:50 PM

My older sister was one of my best friends and most ardent supporters until 2008. We were playing blackjack during our annual week in Vegas and she asked me what I thought about McCain v Obama. I said that I did not mind McCain, but I would be voting for Obama since we'd had eight years of Bush Jr. and we needed a big change. She replied that Obama was the Antichrist. Say, what?!?!

I distanced myself from her after that comment, which had to have been something she heard – not something she thought up. Eight years later, she went full-on MAGA. I'll admit that I was not truly appalled by Trump at the time of his first election, but within weeks, it became clear to me that Trump was unhinged. Over the course of Trump's first term, our parents, brother, and nearly all of our family cut ties with her completely. She and her son stormed out of Thanksgiving dinner in 2017 and we haven't seen or spoken to her since.

She has left several voicemails over the years, begging to reconcile, crying about "family" etc. Our brother's son is getting married in July and she is not invited. She asked some of her friends that the rest of us are friends with on Facebook to post a long screed on her behalf when she learned about the wedding. It served only to affirm how off the rails and brainwashed she still is. I have no regrets.

by Anonymousreply 26May 24, 2025 4:51 PM

R26 I would reach out and be kind to her, but make clear you do not want to discuss politics.

by Anonymousreply 27May 24, 2025 4:54 PM

You can't reason with hyper-partisans, just doesn't work. True for those who cried replacing the shuffling, mentally meandering Biden was "stabbing MY JOE in the back!"

by Anonymousreply 28May 24, 2025 4:55 PM

I don't believe in that "family first" nonsense, I didn't hesitate to cut out MAGA family members.

by Anonymousreply 29May 24, 2025 4:55 PM

I started cutting MAGA out of my life back in 2015. No exceptions.

I’m the mother of a gay man. It took me all of 30 seconds to understand that Trump was pandering to rightwing lunatics and those people are a direct threat to my son and his partner.

Fuck them. No MAGA in my life ever. No exceptions.

by Anonymousreply 30May 24, 2025 4:57 PM

R26 Unfortunately, the Tea Party/MAGA racists were really starting to percolate in 2008. John McCain was appalled by how nasty and vile by some of the comments about Obama.

The Tea Party/MAGA later refused to vote for Mitt Romney because he was a "cultist, not a Christian."

by Anonymousreply 31May 24, 2025 4:58 PM
People like your sister cannot be helped, OP. You’ll have to put her down.

Yep, R24, I think her illness is more profound and terminal than Biden's.

by Anonymousreply 32May 24, 2025 4:58 PM

R16. No, I understand the impulse (and what may feel like ethical obligation) not to stay silent in the presence of such ugliness. I wonder if another approach might be simply not to engage—walk away, end the interaction, tell her she needs to leave, if she’s at your place. If you are out in a public place, have an exit strategy (separate cars, separate checks, whatever). She will, no doubt, continue to froth at the mouth like the rabid bitch she appears to be, but you just don’t engage. (Like passive resistance in the civil rights protests). She’ll probably be so astonished that you actually absent yourself that she’ll either go no contact, or flood you with texts, FB postings—again, just act like these don’t exist. That is your best review and if it means you aren’t in touch until such time as regains some sanity and/or decency, so be it. My b-in-law is a lifelong Republican and voted for Trump three times, though I think by the last time it was in spite of Trump—he might have done well not to vote at all, given what he says about Trump. We’ve found common ground in agreeing that both parties are disasters at the moment. We don’t get into which is more of a disaster.

I had a grad school/professional friend who moved, in his late fifties and after three decades of living in Georgia (he grew up on Ling Island) from being a moderate liberal (he came out after ten years of marriage and a son with whom he has a chilly relationship) , but now politically is a MAGAt and, around the election, posted what were apparently vicious comments about liberals, to the point where mutual friends from grad school and professional circles, wrote me to ask if he had had some kind of mental breakdown. No, just general resentment towards women (he did not do well with some female colleagues), bitterness about being deposed as chair when his colleagues couldn’t take it any more, and a general sense that he would have had a more illustrious career were it not for all the DEI or Affirmative Actoons that kept him (and me, he would add) from getting jobs at R-1 institutions. We typically speak once a year and FB and email other times. I’ve unfriended him and we’re not in email contact. I have no idea if he’ll try the annual call (he almost always initiates it) end of the summer. If he does, it will just go to voicemail—guess I’m ghosting him. Perhaps some would say I’m being cowardly by evading him rather that confronting him. We’re both retired—I don’t have the energy to engage in dialogue with someone who won’t or can’t listen. He’s never been rude to me, but it makes me sad that we are so split at this time of life.

by Anonymousreply 33May 24, 2025 5:02 PM

To continue on the R25 story, my sister then said she believes sex education should be taught at home by the parents, not in schools. I reminded her that her grandson got his girlfriend pregnant at age 18 and is now, at 21, the father of a 3-year-old son.

"Obviously, that didn't work out too well, did it?" I couldn't resist.

by Anonymousreply 34May 24, 2025 5:03 PM

R33 My sister lives in another state, so I rarely see her and our interactions are only over the phone. I can't tell you how many times she's tried to bait me with stories of "illegals" and "trans people" during our conversations, and I have consistently remained completely silent when she brings these subjects, never even commenting with a single word. I have absolutely refused to engage.

But I couldn't let the Biden comment go. What made it worse is that I'm currently undergoing treatment for the same type of cancer that Biden has, so for her to express happiness over Biden's ill health, when she knows that I also have prostate cancer, to me was unconscionable. I couldn't remain silent.

Like your former friend, it's easier for me to ghosts friends I used to speak to who have gone full MAGA. I simply cut them out of my life. It's not as simple with family.

We were able to remain civil to each other until Covid. Then he just went totally psycho. He ended up in the hospital with a ruptured appendix- it was bad. The asshole threw a hissy fit about having to wear a mask. I mean, he was full Karen.

I had to take off work and fly down to Floriduh to take care of his dog while he was in the hospital and have him discharged to me.

He did nothing but scream and rant about Covid was a hoax and nobody is going to tell him what he can and can’t do - on and on.

It’s exhausting listening to that bullshit. And it is CONSTANT SCREAMING at the top of his lungs about “illegals” and “mah gunz!!!!!”

I made the mistake of asking him how he was coming along rebuilding his truck and he started screaming-literally- about how he can’t afford or find part because of Joe Biden.

You simply cannot have a conversation with fucked up cultists.

by Anonymousreply 46May 24, 2025 5:26 PM

We underestimate the power of propaganda. While the mainstream media has been criticized as having a liberal bias, that is very different from a conscious policy of persuasion without concern for facts that exists on the right. Even MSNBC, which on occasion crosses the line, is journalism with a definite point of view more than propaganda. The distinction is, I think, ultimately whether truth is respected as an end in itself. The right subordinates truth to other objectives. The left is science while the right is religion. The left has universal aspirations while the right is tribal.

The two sides are psychologically different. There is something addictive about experiencing fear and disgust for many conservatives. It traces to the tribal foundations of their identity . So when they turn to right wing propaganda they get hooked. Anger, fear and disgust are a form of entertainment.

I don’t think the same applies to the left. I think most people on the left are inclined to turn away from the news when it makes them afraid or disgusted. At the very least they are going to view watching the news as a civic duty to be endured, not as entertainment. They may tune in for a while, but they will not wallow in it. So those on the left are not temperamentally suited to propaganda. That doesn’t mean they are immune, but they don’t crave it.

Of course this is a generalization. There are people in both sides who don’t fit the pattern

by Anonymousreply 47May 24, 2025 5:27 PM

Like you wouldn't be cheering if Trump got some incurable fatal illness.

by Anonymousreply 48May 24, 2025 5:29 PM

R47 Really great observation there.

I agree with you; conservatives almost seem to "get off" on outrage and fear, while liberals tend to want to find ways to make it all end.

by Anonymousreply 49May 24, 2025 5:30 PM

I love when a MAGA dumbo uses the "no one is going to tell me what to do" but then they allow and expect others to do what Trumps says. Both sides of the mouth always. Antifa, FBI, bad actors then patriots at Jan 6. Planted documents then had the right to take them. I recently commented to MAGA family member that it was quite lovely how Trump graciously pardoned all those Antifa, bad actors and FBI undercover agents for Jan 6.

by Anonymousreply 50May 24, 2025 5:31 PM

R38. I understand that it is harder with family. My husband has mid-stage Alzheimer’s, so all the Schadenfreude over Biden’s cognitive decline hits too close to home (and I think Biden should not have gone as far into the campaign—from my observation, the person with dementia often is either in denial or part of the illness is not being able to recognize the decline in the self). I think my b-in-law is less inclined to take strong political stances these days because almost every waking moment is dedicated to caring for my sister, who has been living with glioblastoma for five years (decided aphasia and mobility issues, but otherwise in surprisingly good health with no evidence of remaining or new tumors in the MRIs she has every two months)—he’s too exhausted to get worked up and has had his own health challenges (gallbladder removal in February).

Ironically, the no-longer friend had prostate cancer 10 or 12 years ago and had successful surgery. I doubt in his case that would make him more sympathetic to Mr. Biden.

by Anonymousreply 51May 24, 2025 5:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 60May 24, 2025 6:15 PM

Another aspect of the right’s tribal and faith-based orientation is that the more “extreme” the ideology gets in dividing society into the tribe and the outsiders, (good and evil) the more appealing it becomes to those with a tribal mindset. There is no pull toward the center, which is accommodation and mutual respect. Rather there is a pull toward extremism. Ultimately, what is best for the tribe is the highest value and concepts like the rule of law, truth and respect for differences are tossed aside.

It’s fascism’s secret weapon.

We can only wait for them to self-destruct because faith in a strongman and a “chosen people” is not a good guidepost in a complex, international world, and because fascism’s leaders are always corrupt and out for themselves, not the people.

I have a close relative who is intelligent and well off. He knows what an imbecile that man is in the White House. But he despises the Clintons, the Obamas, the Bidens, and the Democrats. For all intents and purposes, he is full blown MAGA. He posts absolute right wing crap on Facebook. I ignore it and do not discuss politics with him. A few days ago, he posted a meme of Jill Biden with the question "Which Doctor do you trust more than Dr. Jill?" imposed on the picture. One of his friends -- another well-off, respected professional -- replied, "Dr. Josef Mengele." WTF????

I have come to the conclusion that the MAGA crowd cannot be reasoned with. It's a waste of time. Their leader gives voice to their hatreds, fears, and bigotry. They have completely dehumanized and demonized their perceived enemies. And it says a lot about who and what they are.

None of you cared about trans people before you fell for the right-wing culture war

by Anonymousreply 68May 24, 2025 7:21 PM

Look. I feel that most white MAGAs thrive in a grievance mentality that characterizes the whole movement. It’s not about educational achievement, but a more basic sense of entitlement they think they deserve more than “others.” Lots of white people believe that they are superior to black and brown people just because and they feel seen and appreciated by Trump and his minions. Propaganda just reinforces this. Blame people of color, immigrants, non-Christians, LGBTs, highly educated elites, and so on. It’s not based on science or facts, but it makes them feel better about themselves. This is how MAGAs and rightwing media have successfully taken over the political and social landscape.

Every group that voted for Trump 2 has similar irrational grievances. Blacks demonize immigrants. Hispanics demonize illegal immigrants. Evangelical Bible beaters demonize gays and trans. There is always some class of people who are their enemies. MAGA encourages and catalyzes the current class warfare. The concept that a rising tide lifts all boats has been replaced by I’ve got my boat, get the fuck away from it. Oh, and I’ll sink yours so you drown.

At this point, it’s irrelevant how or when this cultural shift began. It is here and it is pervasive. I’m not sure when it will pass either.

by Anonymousreply 69May 24, 2025 7:29 PM

r47 - It has to do with a tribal/authoritarian mindset and an unconscious desire to be angry.

[bold]We have never been subjected to real left-wing propaganda during our lifetimes, except for expanding rights to marginalized groups. [/bold]Early in the 20th century, there were the muckrakers, and writers such as Sinclair Lewis and Upton Sinclair turned a keen critical eye on America's economic foundations.

But we haven't seen that in a while. Not since the environmental movement took off.

Real leftwing propaganda would make short work of all the billionaires, muckrakers would photograph their wealth and contrast it to the poverty of their workers. Books would be written on widespread fraud and overtreatment in medicine, dentistry, and the veterinary fields. Again, contrasted with the greed of insurance companies and the unserved poor. Spreading to other industries.

There would be an entire media ecosystem whose basic message -- these plutocrats are stealing from YOU!

The MAGAs would be the first to start hating the rich!

It should be the overriding theme both next year and in 2028 r73. The Democrats have got to stop having inane arguments with ourselves about whether woke or anti-woke is the real way to go, and wage a full on, Fuck the Rich campaign. Enough dicking around. This shitty stupid fuck everyone who isn't a billionaire budget should be 99% of what all Democrats are talking about these days. They're not hiding their belief that the average American is a useless fucking loser who should just roll over and die. Acknowledge that, and use it.

by Anonymousreply 76May 24, 2025 7:52 PM

Your sister needs a kick in the cuntbone!

by Anonymousreply 77May 24, 2025 7:59 PM

Most MAGAts I've encountered are bitter old bitches, pissed that their life didn't turn out like they wanted. Trump gives them someone to blame for their lot in life.

Is your sister a bitter old bitch OP?

by Anonymousreply 78May 24, 2025 8:05 PM

My sister and her husband sent their hard-earned money to Trump. I asked her why she would finance a multi-billionaire. How much did he contribute to his own campaign?

by Anonymousreply 79May 24, 2025 8:06 PM

Most Americans are terrible people.

by Anonymousreply 80May 24, 2025 8:12 PM

If someone told me 10 years ago that the world was going to look like it does now, absolutely nothing would have convinced me to believe it.

On one hand, I want to say it is the human mind facing its limits and starting to unravel with a reality that is being manipulated by ever smarter technology. Yet, MAGA is something that is really overwhelmingly affecting the US. Other countries, while facing similar forces, are still holding their own in terms of sanity. So far.

Were I religious, I would seriously wonder if Trump is the actual Antichrist. As an outsider, the case really seems convincing.

by Anonymousreply 81May 24, 2025 8:16 PM

R69 Right. It's a play on the old Nazi strategy famously enunciated by Pastor Martin Niemöller when he himself became a prisoner at Dachau.

"First they came for...".

r82 - I see your Martin Niemöller and raise you Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
The theologian who said killing Hitler was justifiable and not a sin, while grappling with the implications, was Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Bonhoeffer, a German pastor and anti-Nazi dissident, was executed by the Nazis in 1945. He participated in plots to assassinate Hitler, recognizing it as an evil that needed to be stopped, though he struggled with the idea of betraying his calling as a minister.

by Anonymousreply 83May 24, 2025 8:32 PM

R78 She has no reason to be bitter. She had a long and successful career and made good money. She owns her own home in a nice neighborhood and retired about 15 years ago. She could - and should - be enjoying her life, but when I talk to her on the phone, it's a constant barrage of grievances, usually about the dumbest, most insignificant things.

by Anonymousreply 84May 24, 2025 8:39 PM

A friend of a friend of mine is an older guy whose wife recently died from Alzheimer’s. They were very well off “corporate MAGAt”s. They watched Fox News all the time like so many we know. As her condition worsened, ALL she did was sit glued in front of the TV watching Fox News. Like every moment she wasn’t asleep, she was glued to it. She got even more lost into the spiral and started accusing the husband of being in cahoots with Hillary Clinton and Obama, etc. She would hurl horrible comments at him, clearly forgetting who he even was. She did the same thing to their son when he came to visit. Literally her entire Alzheimer’s induced world was a Fox News conspiracy and she was the victim.

I wish this were not a true story. Everyone was relieved when she passed. But just imagine the nightmare they lived through… thanks Fox News.

by Anonymousreply 85May 24, 2025 8:41 PM

Thank you, R60!

by Anonymousreply 86May 24, 2025 8:42 PM
Fox News steals the brains and souls of stupid relatives. Usually it is parents.

Funny you should post that, R72, because just yesterday I told my sister it'd be interesting to have neuroscientists do comprehensive longitudinal studies of MAGAs' brains--PET and CAT scans, MRIs, etc to see if their brains (or certain areas thereof) show the same or similar kinds of (for lack of a better word) damage caused by toxoplasmosis.

Just leave the 25% dead-enders alone. It's the self-declared independents, along with some registered Rs who count.

If you have the joy of no MAGATs among your immediate family members, read this thread and remember just how lucky you really are.

by Anonymousreply 93May 24, 2025 10:15 PM

I do understand that r91. I get that people do not want to let politics infest every part of their lives. But really, no kidding, no exaggeration, Trump is a real danger to democracy itself. It is so beyond, well, we disagree about tax policy or law and order or immigration. He is an actual danger to all of us. Yes, I know, MARY! But really he is. He hates this country's traditions and he hates this country's constitution. You have to deal with that when you deal with Trump. You can't pretend it's just some typical disagreement about left and right, or Republican and Democrat. It's much more than that.

by Anonymousreply 94May 24, 2025 10:19 PM
I have people in my life who are Trumpers. We don't discuss politics or anything Trump. I refuse to allow Trump to ruin my personal relationships.
Replace "Trumpers" with racists. Or pedophiles. Or Nazis. Have you stated your boundaries?

Even though we don't discuss politics, my friends know who I am and where I stand on specific issues. I can't know what's in the hearts and minds of my friends who are Trumpers. I don't know what they say or do when I'm not in the room. I do know that some of them are the types who just won't vote democratic no matter who is on the ballot.

I am totally in favor of cutting people out of my life who no longer bring me joy. I'm not in favor of removing people based on who they vote for.

Maybe my way of thinking is naive, but I'm tired of the overanalysis and constant focus on the Trump voters. Personally, I don't blame them for Trump; I blame the 8 million Biden voters who decided to stay at home this time.

I didn’t LIKE most republicans 10 years ago. But unlike today, I didn’t HATE them either.

Going back to Reagan with AIDS spinning more out of control than it needed to and disbanding mental institutions leading to the homeless crisis we are left with today, or objection to literally any changes to the health care disaster of today where the “efficient private sector” has made us the model of bureaucratic inefficiency in health care, or tax cuts and the conversion to “financial responsibility” when needed to hypocritically use as an issue they use to punish democrats who try to fix the nightmare deficits they created, to stealing an election from Al Gore, who when faced with the same 9/11 that would have still happened, would have used it as a call to move to electric vehicles to address climate change and kill oil overlords so Middle East nations don’t get to be as rich and powerful as they are today - that was probably the last good chance we had to really address global warming,, to….

They have gotten pretty much EVERY big issue wrong.

And all that was BEFORE Trump. With all that, I only didn’t LIKE them. Today, I truly HATE them. I hope we as a country can survive them, but I honestly don’t know these days.

by Anonymousreply 99May 25, 2025 12:34 AM

Ok 2020 and in March SARS Covid 19 hit us hard. I"m a ECMO Specialist Perfusion. We had six Covid ICUs and the one at the top(16th floor) was called the "Last Resort". Because that's where the ECMO patients were. Death after death and so ill prepared for the thousands coming to our ER. I have severe PTSD. When the vaccine was given to the frontliners first it was such a relief. We all celebrated the vaccine. Finally a breakthrough and less Covid death etc.

And then in 2021 Delta hit us. And we honestly thought that the anti vaxxers would get vaccinated. NOPE.

I took care of a young man with 3 children who got Covid. And he never got the Covid vaccine. I work nightshift and the nurse gave his wife a call to tell her what was going on and update. Nurse asks her if she had gotten the Covid vaccine? And the wife says NO and her husband doesnt have Covid and he's dying from the flu. Are you kidding me?? WTF. And he died. For what? Own the Libs? YOUR DEAD.

I don't give a flying fuck about MAGATS and will not have them in my life. You think Covid is fake and vaccines kill you and not Covid? Die in a grease fire!!!! Please take horse wormer, Ivermectin. Please take vitamins and inject alcohol. And bow down to IQ45/47 and RFK Jr. Please don't come to ER when sick.

by Anonymousreply 100May 25, 2025 12:57 AM

The most unfortunate thing was making politics into entertainment. Most people have less to talk about as their free time is split between partisan tv news, social media partisans and podcast pundits.

OP I bet your sis listens to the Meghan Kelly show. She says stuff like that delivered like a bitchy cheerleader.

by Anonymousreply 101May 25, 2025 1:04 AM

So is mine. We don't speak.

She has no idea that she's shit on a couple hundred thousand dollars when I die.

No humble brag. I would have taken care of her.

by Anonymousreply 102May 25, 2025 1:08 AM

Magats are just stupid people, they have to be. My Trump loving neighbor asked me why I didn't take Ivermectin when I caught Covid in February. I said "because I'm not a fucking idiot". Three days later she leaves me a voice mail stating " I need a ride ". I never responded so a couple of days later she gets all assertive and asks me why I didn't give her a ride and I said " Because I'm not your personal Uber and the neighbors who have given you a ride say that you don't even offer them gas money". She just stood there trying to think of a response, these are dumb people. If your car is in the shop and you need transportation call your orange god.

I think the whole Trans rights movement is way off base on everything they do and say. But anybody who voted for a cunt like Trump because they don't like trans people is a motherfucking moron and needs a dick punch and a cunt punch and an ass punch and every other punch that anybody can deliver.

by Anonymousreply 105May 25, 2025 1:42 AM

and I should clarify at r105. I think Trans people have the same right as any other people to live their lives, but they seem to be doing everything they can to alienate everyone who isn't Trans. They need a new strategy. But nothing, absolutely nothing justifies voting for a shitweasel like Trump. Nothing.

by Anonymousreply 106May 25, 2025 1:48 AM

I beg of all… please don’t turn this into another trans thread…

by Anonymousreply 107May 25, 2025 1:49 AM

R26, I think you should reconsider your family’s treatment of your sister. She should be invited to the family wedding. just don’t talk politics with her. Everyday it becomes more apparent that Trump is a conman whose only real goal is to make money (and screw his enemies along the way.) It ‘s sad to destroy a family over a con artist. Trump is not Hitler and it’s just crazy to act like he is. He is not worth destroying families and friendships for.

by Anonymousreply 109May 25, 2025 2:01 AM

You do seem like you are reveling a little in the bitterness r26. You don't really seem like the hero you think you are here. Kind of a cunt actually, even if your sister isn't great.

by Anonymousreply 110May 25, 2025 2:05 AM

This thread (and countless others on the other side) are doing Putin’s work for him.

The weaponizing of FOX and various “-isms” to turn Americans against each other are the enemy.

by Anonymousreply 111May 25, 2025 2:12 AM

Everybody should hate Trump, yes, hate Trump. That actually should unite us. Everything else is relatively trivial. But hatred of Trump should be the default setting at this point. There is obviously nothing good that cunt is ever going to do about anything. If you don't get that, you don't get anything.

by Anonymousreply 112May 25, 2025 2:16 AM

Pam Voorhees at R109, you would've been MAGA. That is, if you hadn't lost your head.

by Anonymousreply 113May 25, 2025 2:20 AM

"Personally, I don't blame Hitler for frying the Jews. I blame the people who aren't doing anything about it."

by Anonymousreply 114May 25, 2025 2:42 AM

R103 I have a friend whose next door neighbor was a MAGAt and refused to get vaccinated or wear a mask in public. She would leave leaflets in his and his neighbors' mailboxes that said things like "COVID is a liberal lie" and "Fauci for prison." Then she died of COVID.

After her death, her son sent him an invitation to her memorial service. At the bottom of the invite, it said "No masks allowed."

My friend sent the invite back with the words "Fuck you, you fucking idiot" written on it.

by Anonymousreply 115May 25, 2025 2:49 AM

I know I'm kind of all over the place on this thread, but honestly r115 not loving that. Yes, she was stupid and in a weird way kind of killed herself. But I'm not loving that reaction. I would even say it would be okay to write something like, hey, not masking killed your mother. But something about that fuck you, idiot seems like just cunting for the sake of cunting, like loving the fact that she is dead, which is actually a shitty way to go through life.

Can we seriously not find a way to call out Trump and the trumpista cult without actually making ourselves the biggest cunts in cuntville?

by Anonymousreply 116May 25, 2025 2:57 AM

R116 His response was 100% correct and appropriate.

The dude's mother was a COVID denier who harassed her neighbors with anti-vax bullshit and who ultimately died from what she denied. Then her stupid son has the nerve to actually print "no masks allowed" on a memorial service invitation to remember a woman known to be an anti-masker who died from being an anti-masker.

"Fuck you, you fucking idiot" was the kindest response the idiot should have received.

by Anonymousreply 117May 25, 2025 3:06 AM

you don't believe that r117. You don't. You know that was cunty, and we should all admit that.

by Anonymousreply 118May 25, 2025 3:10 AM

R118 Nope. I completely believe it, and I completely support it.

COVID deniers are fucking idiots and deserve to be called out for it. Zero tolerance or sympathy for them.

by Anonymousreply 119May 25, 2025 3:13 AM

Well okay then. I think he was being a cunt, but okay, what can anyone do about it? cunts gotta cunt and people gotta say what they say. So let it be written, so let it be done.

by Anonymousreply 120May 25, 2025 3:16 AM

R120 The cunt in this story is the COVID denying, neighbor harassing cunt who died of COVID.

by Anonymousreply 121May 25, 2025 3:18 AM

well, one of the cunts was that r121. Sorry, we're just never going to agree on this.

by Anonymousreply 122May 25, 2025 3:20 AM

R122 Fine. But keep this in mind - if it wasn't for these COVID denying cunts, countless lives could have been saved.

by Anonymousreply 123May 25, 2025 3:32 AM

Good point R101, politics is our bread and circuses. The monoculture is dead, everyone has their own niche music, TV and movies which they consume solo. Politics unites the tribes

by Anonymousreply 124May 25, 2025 6:36 AM

. . . and is (intentionally, I believe) seeking to destroy the Union

by Anonymousreply 125May 25, 2025 8:40 AM

R116 No. we can’t. I wish we could, but we can’t.

I’ve never had a problem with forgiveness. I’ve been the first person to help someone who treated me like shit. I wish no harm to anyone.

But this MAGA disease is something different. It’s like weeds taking over the garden. If we don’t treat it ruthlessly it will overwhelm and destroy us.

We can’t be like the Jews of 1930s Germany. We can’t deny the danger and we can’t offer understanding to those who would destroy us.

I don’t advocate violence, but I do advocate absolute shaming, disrespecting and shunning.

Those of us who see MAGA for what it is are still the majority. We must band together and show the minority how absolutely unacceptable and deplorable they are.

We can’t win them over. We can’t change them. They’re too far gone in their hatred, ignorance and delusion.

We have to show them through shunning that their cult has no place in an enlightened and decent society and we will not allow them to drag the rest of us into the muck in which they wallow.

I have no pity, understanding or compassion for any of the MAGATS I cut out of my life.

by Anonymousreply 126May 25, 2025 12:09 PM
Those of us who see MAGA for what it is are still the majority. We must band together and show the minority how absolutely unacceptable and deplorable they are.

That's all fine and good, but 75 million dumb dumbs voted for him, and the vast majority of Trump voters kept it to themselves. The people who go to his rallies, put the Trump flags in their front yards, and storm the Capitol are the minority. Most Trump voters are not bold and in-your-face with it.

I think there are three types of Trump voters. 1) The crazies; 2) The Social Media (Mostly Facebook)/Message Board Trumpers; and 3) The ones who never say a word about it (the biggest group).

by Anonymousreply 127May 25, 2025 1:22 PM

R126 This is the kind of gentle kindness we need to see more of. Let’s not act like those anti war civil rights protestors in the. 1960s or maga might act if they had a chance.

no violence and shunning the majority of voters in America and those that now run our national government, I can almost smell the victory that is coming..

by Anonymousreply 128May 25, 2025 1:33 PM

First, if the parents are alive, take them out.

by Anonymousreply 129May 25, 2025 1:36 PM

R127 We have to keep in mind that Trump's 2024 victory wasn't all that phenomenal. He received 49.81% of the popular vote, just over 3% more than Harris, who got 48.34% of the vote. It wasn't a landslide by any means. Also keep in mind that only 64% of the population voted in the 2024 election.

If Democrats can convince more people to vote, MAGA can be crushed.

No mention how the democrats are losing support from their own normally strong base.

Good luck in that voter turn out thing for 2028. I have a bad feeling it’s going to be harder to pull off not easier. They have 3 years to make voting harder or less dem leaning.

For the Democratic Party 2028 could look a lot like 1968 .

by Anonymousreply 136May 25, 2025 3:21 PM
no, both parties are going too far on things.

No, no they’re not.

You’re making a false equivalency argument here.

Trumpism/MAGA is extreme and has gone too far. Trumpism/MAGA is mainstream in the Republican Party. Trump was their candidate THREE TIMES.

Poseur progressivism is definitely a problem for the democrats, but it’s a fringe. It’s not mainstream. Neo-progs run for the nomination and always lose. A centrist Democrat always wins.

by Anonymousreply 137May 25, 2025 3:32 PM

R136 I am wondering the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 138May 25, 2025 3:36 PM

R135 Didn’t lose the house in that we didn’t have it to begin with and actually gained seats… even against the MAGA tsunami.

But just wait till the thugs get the Supremes to let them remove illegals from the next census, which they will. That will shift a good 10m population base further to red districts and translate into more R seats and less electoral college votes for blue states.
