Don't Say "Happy Memorial Day"

After the death of a friend, would you tell the family to enjoy a "Happy Funeral ?" The day honors those who've died serving the country.

Thank you, OP. You’ve saved me from so much embarrassment this weekend.

OP has told you now so they don’t have to tell you later.

My brother is texting all the veterans he knows to thank them for their service.

^That’s what Veterans Day is for. Memorial Day is about the dead.

Can you imagine some DLer deadpanning: "You do realize that Memorial Day commemorates DEAD soldiers, right? So, you've basically suggested I be happy and enjoy a funeral."

by Anonymousreply 5May 24, 2025 10:03 PM

Say "Have a Blessed Memorial Day!" instead.

Yeah but don't people wish you a Good Passover, which is a holiday giving thanks that the Angel of Death only came for the Egyptian children, because the Egyptians didn't mark their doors with sacrificial blood?

Do not allow the ignorant to prevail.

Remember in his first term when Trump wished everyone a 'Happy Good Friday' - the saddest day on the Christian calendar ???

by Anonymousreply 9May 25, 2025 12:21 AM

It shouldn't be called "Good" Friday.

by Anonymousreply 10May 25, 2025 12:31 AM

Memorial Day is for remembering the dead and the unofficial start of summer.

Veteran's Day is for thanking people for their service.

Vets don't get free lunches at Shoney's on Memorial Day.
