What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to pay no mind to losers. It has been a long road, but I finally made it to a point where I’ve finished my MBA and found career success. I can’t tell you how many losers I met along the way who could sense that I had a spark and tried to drag me down.
I can remember one guy in particular who kept pretending to be offended by completely innocuous things that I said and called me arrogant. He also told me that I should be taking career advice from him because he knew what he was talking about. Mind you, he was over 40 years old and living in his parents garage.
I wish I had had better self-esteem from the start. I could’ve avoided a lot of these people.

I would have travelled more and started doing it younger. The traditions of a "gap year" of hopping from one place to another, and Erasmus exchanges or just cheap backpack travel are sometimes the butt of jokes, but they can be great experiences and develop curious people. I wish it were a much bigger thing for university age people in the US, where students are expected to shell out $30,000 to $60,000 on average for each year for university tuition/loans but the idea of, say, $18,000 for a year to see the world is seen a step too far.

Don't let your parents make major life decisions for you, like where you should attend college. Move out of state if you want to.
