A very good boy fends off 5 coyotes that ganged up on
him in 45 minute ordeal
The footage is pretty intense. The good news is he was caught later and is available for adoption.
[QUOTE]Shatynski tried unsuccessfully to corral the dog, but ultimately decided to call Brea police for help. They coordinated with Orange County Animal Care, and at some point, a private trapper responded to capture the dog and bring it to a local shelter.

Here's Duke with a new pal. He's very, very sweet and equally good at play as fending off a pack of coyotes.

He was lucky to end up by the the hedges, where the coyotes couldn't get behind him.

R2 He wasn't lucky; he was smart. He found a place where he could be safer.

yes. I'd want a good boy like him next to me on a hike in the woods. i was with our big boy Chubs once on a trail about 2 miles from the nearest house. He's a Shepherd/Lab/ Bouvier mix. He started nipping at my hands and legs. was very upset when I tried to advance.
The next day bear was caught trying to break in to a neighbouring cottage.

He knew what he was doing.
[QUOTE]"In the video, the dog is submissive going as far as [tucking] its tail and even sitting," Wildlife expert Rebecca Dmytryk told KTLA. "This showed respect to the coyotes that were messaging it to stay away and to back down. It complied and the coyotes responded, leaving it alone."

Wow, that reminds me of my sister's sweet rescue Schnoodle, Bentley, and is exactly what he did when facing aggression from cats and other dogs.
At that time I worked with the most rancid hyenas, coyotes and jackals in human form, and for years I'd tried every strategem to deal with them; nothing worked. Then my sis adopted Bentley and I watched him interacting with my cats and with dogs at the dog park--and I had an epiphany: "Be Bentley!"
So I did, and it was uncanny how my playing the respectful, oh so helpful submissive changed my work environment. So I made it part of my on-boarding of new grad assistants and undergraduate workers. They'd come to me upset and livid about an interaction with a coyote. I just arched an eyebrow, they saw the picture on my door... and said "Ohhhhh, I forgot to Be Bentley!" Then off they'd go, ready to do the battle of submission.
Worked a treat.
