A mutant dog
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 22, 2025 4:02 AM |
Wasn’t he a shoe?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 22, 2025 4:32 AM |
He lives in a shoe
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 22, 2025 4:35 AM |
As a kid I got a new pair of Buster Brown shoes every year before school started.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 22, 2025 4:43 AM |
I'm old enough to remember the excitement of getting specially measured at an upscale shoe store for my very own pair. Now kids wear Crocs in whatever size mom grabs off the hook.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 22, 2025 5:21 AM |
It’s been my hairstyle for years.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 22, 2025 7:05 AM |
I remember the shoe store
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 22, 2025 7:07 AM |
That dog was clearly inspired by the Cheshire Cat
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 22, 2025 8:21 AM |
Oh yeah, I had forgotten all about that. Also there was a brand called Red Goose Shoes that had a machine shaped like a goose in the store that would lay a golden egg for any kid that bought a pair.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 22, 2025 9:31 AM |
I always wanted a pair but never got them. The allure was that kids would get a free surprise in a package if they got a pair. The ad would show. Kid opening the package but not show what it was. I was so curious.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 22, 2025 9:48 AM |
I remember them - and Thom McAn shoes as well.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 22, 2025 11:12 AM |
The dog's name was Tige. I never had a pair either. Too expensive.

[quote]Too expensive.
My mom took me to the local Buster Brown. I thought Buster and that fucking dog were about the scariest things I ever saw.
We left quickly for just the reason you mentioned.

Here's Patty McCormack looking insane while shilling for Red Goose Shoes. Her mouth might be smiling, but the eyes are saying, "Get down here and buy these shoes, or I'm gonna tap-tap-tappa your head with the heel of this Francine."

R6 is Bruce Villach
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 22, 2025 11:53 AM |
Patty was pretty much the best child actress of the era.

Measuring your feet with the metal sliding guage?
Anyone else remember that?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 22, 2025 12:35 PM |
I'm just now realizing Buster Brown's dog Tige was a vicious pit bull.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 22, 2025 1:03 PM |
"I'm Buster Brown, and I live in a shoe. That's my dog Tige, and he lives there, too."
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 22, 2025 1:13 PM |
A frequent commercial during Saturday morning cartoons.

[quote]metal sliding guage?
Oh, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 22, 2025 1:36 PM |
Was Buster gender nonconforming? His/her wink is hiding big secrets. And the dog is scary.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 22, 2025 1:42 PM |
The dog looks like something out of a Stephen King novel.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 22, 2025 1:57 PM |
That dog needs to get his thyroid levels checked.
But yes, I do remember Buster Brown and shopping and getting different pairs of them. Were they really that expensive? We weren't rich and I had them? Or maybe I just was a kid and we shopped in a store that had that image on the wall and I thought I was getting Buster Brown. Maybe there were just Tom Mcan.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 22, 2025 3:33 PM |
I was often called Buster Brown by the women in my family, my mom, grandmother, and aunt. "Watch it, Buster Brown, or get over here, Buster Brown."
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 22, 2025 3:33 PM |
Buster Brown isn't winking, that evil dog ate his eye.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 22, 2025 4:10 PM |
I was wearing some brown shoes and stepped in between two teenagers who were working at the store and were on the floor. One of them said, "Nice Buster Browns". I was less surprised of him being cheeky than I was at him for knowing what a Buster Brown was.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 22, 2025 4:37 PM |
[quote]Also there was a brand called Red Goose Shoes
🎶Half the fun in buying shoes is Red Goose Shoes!🎶
🎶That's Buster Brown; He lives in a shoe/ There's his dog, Rags; he lives in there too!🎶
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 22, 2025 4:57 PM |
What was in that surprise bag? Does anybody know?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 22, 2025 5:10 PM |
It was a TV show?
I only remember the shoe store. We were too poor to shop there, only Sears or Hills for us.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 22, 2025 5:13 PM |
R18 Ah, that article is interesting. I used to shop at Alamo Shoes a few years back. One of the last of the old style shoe stores.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 22, 2025 5:14 PM |
Was it Tige or Rags?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 22, 2025 6:42 PM |
Mary Jane shoes for girls comes from the name of Buster’s “girlfriend”
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 22, 2025 6:53 PM |
I have a small family keepsake stored in an old cardboard Buster Brown box. On the top are illustrations of two children with the phrase "Toe to Crown in Buster Brown!" This was back when they sold accessories and clothing, decades ago.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 22, 2025 10:01 PM |
I remember the shoes but not TV ads. But then my family watched a lot of public TV.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 22, 2025 10:33 PM |
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 22, 2025 11:59 PM |
Yup. Also remember Thom McAn stores, sitting down on a chair, putting your foot on kneeler/stool while the salesman measured it with that thingamajig at R18.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 23, 2025 12:09 AM |
I remember the TV commercials for Buster Brown Shoes.
[quote]I remember the shoes but not TV ads. But then my family watched a lot of public TV.
Excuse me. We didn't have public television in Hot Coffee, Mississippi.
