Suspect yelled “Free Palestine” during the arrest.

Palestinian protestors?

Somehow I don't think shooting random Jews is going to lead to a free Palestine. It may increase that clamp though.

The victims were a young couple about to be engaged. The young man purchased the ring and planned to propose this weekend.
The victims attended a museum event on how to help Gaza. The organizer explained her feelings of guilt:
[quote]“I didn't know the couple who were shot but I do feel a sense of guilt, and it's a very uniquely Jewish thing to feel guilty for the fact that they were there because of an event I organised and then feeling guilty about my guilt when I shouldn't be centering myself when people's lives were just lost.”
In addition to Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, and Jeanine Pirro, Kristi Noem is also on the case.
The suspect, Elias Rodriguez, helpfully led the police to the gun and implied he committed the crime.
Australian Jews are officially horrified, per their statement.
Mike Johnson offered prayers.
When the suspect entered the museum, he was assumed to be the victim and offered water, aid, and comfort. He essentially confessed to the police.

This is wrong. Israel is the DARLING of the ultra-rightwing. Trump is hanging his slow motion coup on “fighting antisemitism” and “threats to national security” due to people daring to oppose Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians.

Further to my post at r82, when 4chan got hacked, the hackers did fun things like investigate the nationality of posters in certain forums.
They looked at /politicallyincorrect which has racist and bigoted humor of course. The number 1 country of posters on that forum was Israel, with twice as many posts — almost half a million — than the next country, the USA.
The U.S. has a population 35 times as high as Israel. So Israelis are either 70 times as bigoted as Americans, or there’s some entity or agency driving all those posts. 🤔

I like how r87 bootstraps his own antisemitism red herring in his last paragraph. “What’s next????? The absurdity of [states something that could quite possibly be true and not at all absurd].”
You zionos are the laziest motherfuckers on earth. Whenever any controversy about Israel comes up, no matter how awful what Israel has done, you just put your hands over your ears and scream ANTISEMITISM at the top of your lungs until the other person walks away.
It’s obviously not antisemitism — its revulsion at the ghastly behavior of Israel — which is your behavior. The fact that a sleight of hand is your only argument shows Israel and Zionists are in the wrong, and you know it.

No, it didn't make sense, R76. You don't go around killing people just because you have an unsolved grievance. No matter how "hot" or "fuckable" certain DLers think he is. Murdering innocent people living their lives as a way to demonstrate "solidarity" for suffering Gazan's is still murder, too. They both need to be incarcerated for their actions.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | May 22, 2025 6:54 PM |
R89 I’m not Jewish or a Zionist, but thanks for playing, I guess
When people are collectively demonized, they're no longer seen as individuals with rights and dignity of their own. They become stand-ins for whatever evil their group is accused of. From there it follows that they deserve to suffer for it, even if they've done nothing wrong themselves.
This is what produced the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide, Stalinist purges, Mao’s Cultural Revolution, etc. The depraved logic of identity-based collectivism leads to violence by design.
Every Jew becomes a “Zionist occupier.” Every white man becomes a “colonizer.” Once that framing is accepted, violence becomes virtue. The antidote to this poison is not more tribalism, but the repudiation of it.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | May 22, 2025 7:00 PM |
The couple who was killed sound like exceptionally kind and bright young people. And they were interfaith Jewish (her) and Christian (him).
The killer’s long winded manifesto sounds extremely post-Luigi. The warped argument that actually, random citizens do deserve to die if they are judged complicit in “evil” by an activist whose cause is “righteous” from the killer’s point if view.

Comparing the war in Gaza (and it is a war) to the industrial genocide of a racial minority in Europe overseen by the Nazis is just total and utter nonsense. The recent war in Syria would be a more appropriate comparison (250,000 dead) yet hardly anyone in the West gave a fuck about those dead brown people because it was a brown on brown war.
If Israel really wanted to commit the Gazans they easily could and would have done it by now, the way China is committing genocide against the Uyghurs or Russia against Ukrainians. Or Sudan with 150,000 deaths as well as the mass rape.
There is plenty of food in Gaza, but Hamas are hoarding it and punishing looters who are trying to get it for their families. There are countless videos of this.
The recent story about 14,000 babies dying in the next 48 hours has been rubbished immediately even by the UN, but this "genocide" has been going in for over 18 months and Gazans are still fucking like rabbits.

R118, political criminals (terrorists, revolutionaries, etc.) do not have personal motives. They do not care who specific people are. Every act of terrorism seems pointless in isolation but that rarely turns out to be the case; they tend to trigger a chain of other events.

The shooter may be, and I'm sure you'll be shocked to hear this, a Nazi sympathizer. Apparently he had Twitter account with the screen name "@habboman88." "Habbo" may be a reference to Habbo Hotel, an old gaming site which attracted neo-Nazis. The "88" reference is not obscure at all: 88 is a white nationalist code reference to "HH," i.e., Heil Hitler.

The United Healthcare CEO was literally a mass murderer, and our government refuses to stop it. Big Pharma and the healthcare system are profiting off of suffering and death and bankruptcy of working class Americans, and NO ONE is protecting us. People have been fighting for universal healthcare since the 70’s! When humanity has exhausted all peaceful options *and* the other side refuses to negotiate….this is how we get here. I’m not violent. But do I see how we got here? Yes, yes I do.
American corporations are killing Americans by the tens of thousands, and our government knows it, and looks the other way. Now, in Gaza, we see the displacement of over 2 million people, as our President presents AI photos of a Trump resort to be built on the shores of Gaza. And we’re watching the Fed strip us of rights and budget cuts while they simultaneously increase the allocations for bombs/weapons to Israel, for which we seem have unlimited budget. No, I do not want my tax dollars to pay for the bullets that Israeli soldiers are shooting into the faces of women and children. And you think people aren’t going to get radicalized? Of course they are.
And I can say all of this while still recognizing that what happened to this couple is absolutely horrific. But am I surprised? Nope.

This is the problem with conflating American Anti-Semitism and American Jews with Israeli foreign and domestic policies.
Israel is a sovereign nation run as a democracy when in reality it may be a theocracy. A theocratic democracy?
Israel needs to figure out which one it is before the cleansing of Gaza and Trump Gaza Sur La Mer.

R145 No one conflates diaspora Jews with Israeli policies but far-leftists. It's also the problem of conflating Zionism with approval of any particular party in power.
When 90% of global Jews self-identify as Zionists, it makes it pretty easy to gun down any random diaspora Jew on the street and still insist you're not targeting Jews, you're just targeting Zionists.
Trying to force observant Jews into renouncing Israel/ separating Judaism from Israel is like trying to force observant Christians to renounce Jesus. Or like saying Catholics are okay so long as they're not the kind that receives communion or prays to the Virgin Mary.
What are "good" Jews supposed to say at Passover? "Next year in Palestine"?

I am not r143, but he has a point and your analogy is simplistic and false. The general population of Muslims had nothing to do with 9/11, the company CEO DID AFFECT US PERSONALLY with his financial decisions and greed. He was not some random CEO, he was the actual person responsible for pushing this [bold]profit over patient[/bold] corporate directive of the largest insurance companies in America.
He was no different than Osama bin Laden. Yes, no different. Why? Because neither of them did the actual dirty work. They both guided their minions to do it. Osama technically didn't kill anyone, an innocent man by your standards.

R147 you neglect to mention that while the general population of Muslims had no direct involvement with 9/11, the majority of them have a very difficult time denouncing Muslim terror, or just don’t comment on it at all. This is essentially what Muslims call “Islamophobia” when people point out this truth —- those of us who notice they’re quick to play victim while playing dumb about their own people’s violence and atrocities, or their just staying silent. And we don’t like it. Isn’t one of the left’s catchphrases “silence is complicity”?

R141 No matter what the CEO did in life, there's no justification for someone else deciding to take the law into their hands by shooting him dead. NONE. True, his hands weren't entirely clean. We know his actions caused people to suffer more in life and die horrible deaths. There's plenty evidence of company corruption. That isn't disputed. Though we are currently witnessing it being dismantled, the U.S. (for now) is still country governed by the rule of law. You handle grievances through the legal system and fight for whatever change you want, but not through violence.
This is not a banana republic (yet) or a warzone with vigilante justice. Imagine what the country would look like if everyone decided to pull a "Luigi" on anyone who pissed them off at some point? In that scenario, most of America would be "Luigied."

Elias Rodriguez, 31, who allegedly confessed to killing the couple outside the Capital Jewish Museum and chanted “free, free Palestine!” was part of that network through his association with the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a Communist political organization that has fielded presidential candidates since 2008.
In 2018, Rodriguez also raised $240 in a GoFundMe campaign to join the March to Fight Poverty in Washington DC and took part in demonstrations and protests around Chicago as a member of the ANSWER coalition around 2017 and 2018, another radical socialist group, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | May 24, 2025 2:46 AM |
I am r143, and no, I’m not making excuses for murder, but what I am doing is providing *context*. When people are oppressed, violence happens. We do NOT live in a country governed by laws, just look at our President whose 34 felonies were discharged. It’s propaganda to say we are governed by laws. We couldn’t even lock up the man who led an insurrection n our nation’s capitol, so no, we are *not* governed by laws.
The truth is that we have two justice systems — one for the rich, and then one for us. And that is de facto oppression. And not to be a broken record, but oppression brings violence. So what do we do? Give it more context so we 1) understand how and why it happened, and 2) then the work is about stopping the oppression, which will eventually stop the violence.
The way some of you sound, you would blame black people for violence by their continuing to march in the streets during the Civil Rights movement. Yes, there is a difference between overt violence like this shooting and the 60’s….but I promise you, most whites wanted black people to stop making life so “difficult” by marching and “riling up” the community. This shooter just took it one step further by committing violence first. That is not me defending him — it’s just context.
Stop giving Israel money to fund their war, and all these protestors and violent extremists will go away. It’s that simple.
