Was he a Dem in a red or a blue state? Is the governor of his state a Democrat or a Republican? Can they just appoint someone until the next term elections?

Purple State, Virginia. His district is Deep Blue.

The Governor is Glenn Youngkin, a Republican.

There will be a special election, so voters will choose.

The problem is: he's the third House Democrat to die this year who was just relected/elected.

Rep. Sylvester Turner of Texas died on March 4, and Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona died on March 13.

And yet…

Why is it that only Democrats ever die????

Texas governor Abbott has dragged his feet scheduling a new election & Virginia governor Youngkin will likely do the same. To be fair, a Democratic governor would do likewise.

One of his last memorable exchanges on the oversight committee.

The fucker had to hold on and fry re-elected instead of taking his diagnosis as a sign and stepping away so a younger Democrat could run.

Fuck these fucking dinosaurs hanging on with their death grips.

R7, I read he didn't receive his diagnosis until late in 2024, so well beyond the point of no return in the election cycle (even if it was just before the general).

Sad.
