R7 A whopping 40 years earlier.

by Anonymousreply 11May 20, 2025 8:06 PM

Forgot about The Coach, R9.

It was so long ago. Way back in the 1980s.

by Anonymousreply 12May 20, 2025 8:07 PM

For a fattie he had a good run. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 13May 20, 2025 8:08 PM

Wendt was married to Bernadette Birkett and had three children: Hilary, Joe, and Daniel. Wendt was the uncle of Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis. Wendt's sister Kathy is Sudeikis' mother.

Wendt passed away at his home in Los Angeles at age of 76 on May 20, 2025. “George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him. He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time” his publicist said in a statement.

Sad. I remember watching Cheers with my grandma.

by Anonymousreply 17May 20, 2025 8:20 PM

Well, that sucks. However, being on the heftier side, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.

RIP, George/Norm.

by Anonymousreply 18May 20, 2025 8:33 PM

Quick! Everyone form a protective human shield around Shelley Long!

More like around Ted Danson

by Anonymousreply 20May 20, 2025 8:45 PM

Nooooooo.

Aw man. That SUCKS. RIP. Belly up to the bar in the sky, big guy.

by Anonymousreply 21May 20, 2025 8:49 PM

Corpse!

by Anonymousreply 22May 20, 2025 8:52 PM

"However, being on the heftier side, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner."

"For a fattie he had a good run."

Not to change the subject, but when my 5'1" 350# grandmother died, her doctor haughtily told my mom and my aunt "you mother's weight killed her."

To which my aunt replied "I think her age of 84 also had something to do with it."

by Anonymousreply 23May 20, 2025 8:58 PM

Boomers dropping like flies.

by Anonymousreply 24May 20, 2025 9:10 PM

84 and 76 are different, r23.

Also, women tend to live longer than men.

by Anonymousreply 25May 20, 2025 9:12 PM

He was almost as big as my daughter...

by Anonymousreply 26May 20, 2025 9:14 PM

"Hey Norm. What's shaking?"

"All 4 cheeks and a couple of chins!"

by Anonymousreply 27May 20, 2025 9:18 PM

Kinda cool that a fan of Da Bears was a real bear himself.

by Anonymousreply 28May 20, 2025 9:21 PM

"Hey, Mr. Peterson. Would you like a beer?"

"No, Woody, I'd like a dead cat in a glass."

^my favorite Normism.

by Anonymousreply 29May 20, 2025 9:29 PM

"Hey,Mr Peterson. What do you say to a cold one?"

"See you later Vera. I'm going out for a beer."

by Anonymousreply 30May 20, 2025 9:47 PM

Last saw him as a talking head in the Peacock doc on the 50th anniversary of SNL.

by Anonymousreply 31May 20, 2025 9:55 PM

So he was only 44 when the last episode of Cheers aired? That was a VERY hard-looking 44.

by Anonymousreply 32May 20, 2025 9:58 PM

Ted Danson and the late Edna Turnblad

CHEERS was one of the very few sitcoms that managed to write in a baby-- Frederick-- and not spiral down a Cousin Oliver drain. They wisely used the child sparingly, but to great effect.

by Anonymousreply 42May 21, 2025 12:42 AM

I'm very sorry to hear this I enjoyed him he was quite funny. But I don't find funny and rather offensive is that when I Google to see if like you can lay odds on who the next Cheers cast member to die is going to be. You get an AI lecture about how that's not very kind and rather insensitive to talk about living people that way. I don't appreciate being lectured by robots.

by Anonymousreply 43May 21, 2025 1:12 AM

Count me among those who are amazed that someone so fat basically made it to full life expectancy.

Weirdly this will definitely be a day I'll probably always remember just like I can still remember the exact day I found out that Lucille Ball died. I was barely 9 years old and it was the overcast day and we were on our way up to the high uintas to go camping where it was going to even be colder cuz this was still only late April. Me and my brother were playing in the back of my mom's red pickup truck while she was inside talking to my aunt before we'd gather up my cousins and head up. Her boyfriend emailed their brother all set in the front while me and my cousin's huddled under blankets and sleeping bags as my mom spread through the canyon into the higher mountains damn ass cold. But my mom loved fishing while it was near freezing.

While we were playing in front of my aunt's house though one of the Jones's kids came running down the cul de sac loudly announcing that Lucille Ball had died and we were all very shocked and saddened. I actually had been a fan early Fox affiliates every morning at 10:00. That's why I was thrilled a few years ago when I ended up in Jamestown New York and got to visit the Lucille Ball museum and her exhibit at the national comedy museum. Other the lady at the Lucille Ball museum had a snide remark that I didn't spend nearly enough time in the museum for it to have been worth it. She seems personally offended. But there really wasn't that much to it I mean it was neat for what it was but it wasn't something I was going to spend hours in.

R54 why is that? Other than her unyielding grudge against Shelley Long I've only heard the she was very nice person to deal with.

Wendt’s net worth at the time of his death is estimated to be around $10 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Typical garbage headline from the New York Post at R52, Ted Danson "breaks silence" on George Wendt. Wasn't Wendt's death just announced today?

George Wendt gave a good performance as a murderer in a 1990's "Columbo" movie. A different sort of role for him and he played well off Peter Falk and the other guest star, Rod Steiger.

by Anonymousreply 68May 21, 2025 6:49 AM

He had a fat ass but he could not live forever.

by Anonymousreply 69May 21, 2025 6:57 AM

Who will be there to remember Susan when she passes?

by Anonymousreply 72May 22, 2025 3:08 AM

Imagine making it to Heaven and nobody calls you by your ACTUAL name (as seen in various glurge-y cartoons above).

by Anonymousreply 73May 22, 2025 3:10 AM

[quote] Who will be there to remember Susan when she passes?

Blair Underwood? Maybe.

by Anonymousreply 74May 22, 2025 3:50 AM

Shirley Jones will be there to mourn Susan, and all of her TV, biological, and step children as they drop like flies while she soldiers on.

by Anonymousreply 75May 22, 2025 3:53 AM

[Quote] However, being on the heftier side, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.

What does your being hefty have to do with Wendt’s death?
