I don't even recall it making headlines. Could you imagine if that happened now? Burt's career would be finished.
That time Burt Lancaster punched Margot Kidder in the face

Good on Margot for giving him a fat lip in return.

Did he use Brute Force?

I've never heard of that movie. Could it be a buried treasure worth seeking out for its powerfully realistic fight scenes?

It is not as hot as the production stills. Some good sweaty bared chests. Burt is beautiful.

It has the look of Liza's disaster "Lucky Lady," with Burt Reynolds and Gene Hackman.

No, his career wouldn't be finished. There are still people making excuses for guys like this.

Margot was a bad bitch and didn't put up with bullshit. Good on her for throwing it back.

Burt Lancaster had an enormously bad temper, and was pretty violent. He punched Jack Palace on set once so hard that Palance (who was no pushover) vomited, and the director Michael Winner said Lancaster tried to "kill me multiple times" on the set of the movie Lawman.
No word if he ever punched out Deborah Kerr, but I bet she could have taken him, where Palance and Winner failed.

Margot on!

[quote]Kidder said Danson is "about as sweet a guy as you’re ever gonna meet. What you see is what you get. He’s lovely."
At least someone on the set wasn't throwing punches.

He should have punched his Atlantic City costar

It sounds like Sarandon and Louis Malle should have punched Lancaster.
[quote]John Guare recalls one particular scene when Lancaster became very confrontational with Malle over his performance. "....Lancaster is running up the stairs and he says, "I'm a lover!" Very hammy. Burt embarrassed Louis - on the set - because Louis kept saying; "Burt, down. Less, less, less, less." And so Burt turned to the crew at one point and he said, "Okay." He said, "We're gonna do this next shot two ways. We're gonna do it the way the little frog wants it, and then we'll do it the way it's supposed to be done." And...for a number of weeks on the picture, there were two versions shot of each scene. Burt was...awful to Susan [Sarandon]...and insulting to Louis. And Louis said..."If I didn't care so much, I would put the performance Mr. Lancaster wants - onscreen, to ruin his career!" But....[Burt] came to see rushes at one point and...looked up and....saw what it was that Louis was doing and what he wanted. And it took a few weeks for Louis to gain Burt's respect."

[quote]Very hammy.
When was he not hammy?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 20, 2025 5:21 AM |
R18, he wasn't hammy in Judgment at Nuremberg, but then he WAS playing a character who was deeply complex--a brilliant jurist who was also a committed Nazi responsible for untold numbers of atrocities during the war.

Damn! I had no idea Burt was like this.

He was excellent in Atlantic City. A shame that his performance had to be coaxed out of him.

R22, who didn't you do, you bow-legged bitch?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 20, 2025 1:58 PM |
God rest her soul, but Margot Kidder was one batshit crazy bitch.

I would love to have her life story. She seemed like such a cool, albeit crazy, person. . .but one whose heart was in the right place even if her mind was tragically broken at the end.

Burt had a really interesting life. Hardscrabble. For a while a pretty seedy life. He's been honest, or at least coy, about his life as a rent a whore. When the nudes surfaced people thought he would be embarassed or call them frauds. He never did. He loved them when he took them and loved them more when he was older. He would gladly sign them for his giggling gay fans. A hardcore liberal when it could have ended a career. He insisted on the hiring of gay individuals for the behind the scenes work on his movies. So there's a lot more to him then slapping around a crazy broad who got on his last nerve.

He was a freaking acrobat.

I love him in "Sorry, Wrong Number". When he asks Leona why she would want some galoot like him from the wrong side of the tracks. And Stanwyck gives this subtle side-eye as she lights a cigarette, like "Because you're a mouthwatering stud, silly boy".
