Do you believe in UFOs?

Are we being visited by creatures from outer space?

I do but do not think we have ever experienced anything more than a close encounter of the first kind: sighting.

by Anonymousreply 1May 19, 2025 11:40 PM

They are hoarding all of the good technology.

I do still wonder about Betty and Barney Hill’s experience.

The [Bold]Fermi paradox[/Bold] is the discrepancy between the lack of conclusive evidence of advanced extraterrestrial life and the apparently high likelihood of its existence. Those affirming the paradox generally conclude that if the conditions required for life to arise from non-living matter are as permissive as the available evidence on Earth indicates, then extraterrestrial life would be sufficiently common such that it would be implausible for it not to have been detected.

This is what I believe. I suppose there is the possibility that there is intelligent life elsewhere but they, like we, are stymied by space travel or, went extinct before they could become known to other civilizations or develop into a spacefaring race.

by Anonymousreply 4May 20, 2025 12:47 AM

I have this theory-while-high that the UFOs were here and gone already. Too many of the myths and folklore and religious tales of the ancient past have similarities. Our own bible is a ollection of myths and folklore. But as I look at the pyramids and the ancient Egyptian "gods" with their odd animal heads and human bodies, and I read Greek mythology about how Zeus would come down and mate with some young girl, or any number of other stories from other cultures in other times, I am convinced they were here, they dropped us off and the ancients were communicating with them for a while and then they left and we're still waiting for their return.

by Anonymousreply 5May 20, 2025 12:49 AM

Why did the DoD release those weird videos?

by Anonymousreply 6May 20, 2025 12:51 AM

It’s not what the creationists thought it would be, but isn’t that just how life goes?

by Anonymousreply 7May 20, 2025 12:51 AM

Given the number of stars in our galaxy alone, it is foolish to believe that life didn't develop on thousands of worlds if not millions.

As R4 mentions though, we are all bound by physics. Communication between worlds is highly unlikely and travel almost certainly impossible.

Kind of depressing but there it is.

by Anonymousreply 8May 20, 2025 1:17 AM

Well R8 then who is flying the freaking tic tacs??

by Anonymousreply 10May 20, 2025 1:18 AM

Here's the thing. "Life" on other planets in other solar systems is definitely possible, but the conditions necessary to sustain that life, alien life forms, may be entirely different than what we think is necessary to sustain life.

by Anonymousreply 11May 20, 2025 1:43 AM

R11 is talking about the Crystalline Entity.

by Anonymousreply 12May 20, 2025 1:45 AM

It's just ball lightning.

by Anonymousreply 13May 20, 2025 1:46 AM

I can confirm that there is no sign of alien life 62 miles above the earth.

by Anonymousreply 14May 20, 2025 1:49 AM

And no life at all between Katy Perry’s ears.

by Anonymousreply 15May 20, 2025 1:50 AM

That little Mars rover thing could have been taking pictures of "life" and not even know it.

The problem is traveling faster than the speed of light. We gotta figure that shit out.

by Anonymousreply 16May 20, 2025 1:57 AM

Speaking of traveling at the speed of light, I think it’s funny to think that if Jesus had been traveling at the speed of light during his ascension to heaven, he wouldn’t have even left our galaxy yet.

by Anonymousreply 17May 20, 2025 2:13 AM

Now do Ghosts…

by Anonymousreply 18May 20, 2025 2:14 AM

OP, UFO does not mean aliens. It simply means that you can’t identify something. UFOs exist. It doesn’t mean creatures from outer space.

by Anonymousreply 19May 20, 2025 2:20 AM

Why would they bother with us? If they have the technology to buzz around our skies we are practically neanderthal

by Anonymousreply 20May 20, 2025 2:40 AM

I laughed so hard at this.

by Anonymousreply 21May 20, 2025 2:45 AM

We have not been visited by aliens not only because of the vast distances making it more difficult, but the vastness of time making it impossible.

The genus Homo, that’s to say, intelligent life, have only been on Earth for a tiny fraction of it’s existence, and from all available evidence, we’re quickly on our way to extinction because we’re making it uninhabitable. If we set the Earth aboil, it will be the sixth or seventh time that a mass extinction event has happened here.

All of this is to say, yes, there is almost certainly intelligent life elsewhere. Yes, they may have tried to travel or signal to others they were there. But no, because of the vastness of geological time scales and the apparent shortness of species existence, there is probably no one else out there close enough to matter when your intellect life form happens to exist.

by Anonymousreply 22May 20, 2025 2:59 AM

It’s clear that there is other intelligent life and that we’re not alone. As to where it originates from I don’t know. We may have been sharing this planet all along.

by Anonymousreply 23May 20, 2025 3:10 AM

Maybe aliens use their physicists for better stuff than we do, and can reach us!

by Anonymousreply 24May 20, 2025 3:11 AM

I kind of think I saw one as a kid. But I also have trouble believing intelligent alien life has been visiting this planet at least for decades and have done nothing other than fly around and sexually assault rednecks. So somewhere in-between belief and scepticism I guess.

by Anonymousreply 25May 20, 2025 3:16 AM

If UFOs / UAPs aren't aliens, which government has the technology but is only testing it and not using it? Why have high-level officials stated we have recovered craft with aliens?

by Anonymousreply 26May 20, 2025 5:24 AM
Why have high-level officials stated we have recovered craft with aliens?

Link please.

by Anonymousreply 27May 20, 2025 5:29 AM

Sure, why not? I say the same about God. I'm open to possibilities.

by Anonymousreply 28May 20, 2025 5:35 AM

I believe in an intelligent aliens, but I'm not sure they've ever visited us. I think a species that's capable of interstellar travel would be able to observe humans without a pilot catching them on film.

by Anonymousreply 29May 21, 2025 1:41 AM

Jacques Vallée studied UFOs more than anyone else and he believes that they are interdimensional and not extraterrestrial in origin. Here is an interview he gave in 1986. I highly recommend his books too.

Indeed - a flyover planet, en route to far more rewarding globes. On Trip Advisor, no stars, as it were.

by Anonymousreply 31June 19, 2025 3:59 PM

There are, I don't know, around 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets in our universe.

I find it highly unlikely -- nigh impossible -- that not a single one of those other planets has evolved intelligent life.

Do I believe they have visited Earth in flying saucers?

Hardly.

by Anonymousreply 32June 19, 2025 4:11 PM

R30, can you recommend a good place to start reading Jacques Vallée?

by Anonymousreply 33June 19, 2025 4:24 PM

R20 In Shirley Maclaine's 1983 book "Out On A Limb" she describes a trip to a small village in Peru in the 70s and how the locals told her that the UFOs are here to mine minerals. Just like we need minerals for our technology, well so do they.

by Anonymousreply 35June 19, 2025 4:33 PM

Missed that upthread. Thanks r34!

by Anonymousreply 36June 19, 2025 4:33 PM

Maybe aliens exist, and know about us, but they have their own version of the Star Trek's Prime Directive and don't want to reveal themselves because they're aware of what that would do to our society.

I'll consult my crystals.

Well, there you have it. That's all the proof I or anyone needs.

by Anonymousreply 39June 19, 2025 5:28 PM

Hunny I think they came here a long time ago and dropped us off, or something that evolved into us, and then they left. Look at the ancient civilizations and look at the discoveries recently where they have to keep revising the dates of certain discoveries. For example, the Egyptians. Now they have been waiting for the Aliens to return for millenia. For what ever reason, they never did come back. Oh, maybe they did recon once in a while, but who knows, right?

by Anonymousreply 40June 19, 2025 5:31 PM

3rd Rock from the Sun referred to Earth as on the bad side of the galaxy. I still use that.

by Anonymousreply 41June 19, 2025 5:51 PM

The leader of the team that discovered the alleged Baltic Sea Anomaly, together with astronomer Beatriz Villarroel, who searches for "objects and extraterrestrial artifacts," announced they will release a white paper so impactful that it perhaps "should not be revealed to humanity."

He said: “It’s so overwhelming, it’s completely insane, it’s hard to process.” “I understand why this information shouldn’t be disclosed to humanity.”

What could it be?
the possibility that there is intelligent life elsewhere but they, like we, are stymied by space travel or, went extinct before they could become known to other civilizations or develop into a spacefaring race.

Maybe that is a good thing. Earthlings with their hate, wars, lack of civility make for a sketchy neighbor.

by Anonymousreply 46July 25, 2025 7:35 AM

R45 yes you did! You kept telling us to do it again! I remember

by Anonymousreply 47July 25, 2025 2:32 PM
We have not been visited by aliens not only because of the vast distances making it more difficult, but the vastness of time making it impossible.

Sure but look at this from outside our limited, earthling perspective. Humans in our current form have only been around for about 200,000 years, and human civilization for maybe 12,000 years. Our first powered flight was just 122 years ago. Just 66 years later we were walking on the moon and flying on Concorde.

What if there is a civilization out there that is a million years old? Just imagine how advanced they would be. Even without solving for the vast distances (ie. some kind of warp drive to shorten the travel time), the could have sent out millions of AI-powered probes to all corners of the galaxy, over the span of hundreds of thousands of years. Eventually at least some could therefore find their way here, especially if the aliens sent them in the direction of planets and stars likely to harbour life. Hell, even our primitive James Webb Telescope has been able to detect signs of life in a planet more than 100 light years way. Imagine the kind of planet-finding technology a 1,000,000 year-old civilization would have.

by Anonymousreply 48July 25, 2025 3:21 PM

No, not really. Not here on earth anyway. There may be other planets in other galaxies with other life forms but I doubt they are here. Or were.

by Anonymousreply 49July 25, 2025 3:36 PM

Oh I definitely believe there are objects that can't be identified.

by Anonymousreply 50July 25, 2025 5:15 PM

^ Indeed. I just came here after reading the latest Sam Smith thread.

by Anonymousreply 51July 25, 2025 5:38 PM

Well, we've sent out drones or satellites or explorers into outer space to explore planets and other objects in our solar system. So I would expect other planets with intelligent life might do the same, but do it better and faster than us. WTF not.

by Anonymousreply 52July 25, 2025 6:15 PM

You know, the message of those Alien movies of Ridley Scott's was when space travel gets privatized and commercial interests take over to mine resources we have depleted here, bad shit will happen, and right now we are on a trajectory to fulfill t hat theory or whatever you call it.

by Anonymousreply 53July 25, 2025 6:17 PM

My astrologist tells me there is no real evidence to substantiate the existence of UFOs. Her research demonstrates conclusively that the majority can be explained as visits from angels.

by Anonymousreply 54July 25, 2025 6:19 PM

I have been trying to get that point across for centuries, R54! But people dismiss it! No one listens to me!

by Anonymousreply 55July 25, 2025 8:48 PM

I'm currently reading the book "UFO of God: The Extraordinary True Story of Chris Bledsoe." I'm only on page 40 so the aliens haven't showed up yet. Has anyone read this book or seen the documentary?

It's about a man who was abducted by a UFO. These entities healed him of Crohn's disease, he can now heal people because of the power "they" gave him and he is visited frequently by orbs.

by Anonymousreply 56July 25, 2025 9:22 PM

How come people believe angels visit us but not devils?

by Anonymousreply 57July 25, 2025 9:54 PM

R57 Ever heard of Catholics?

There's also been a million movies about possession like The Exorcist.

by Anonymousreply 58July 25, 2025 10:05 PM

It is more likely than not.

by Anonymousreply 59July 25, 2025 10:30 PM

I just finished reading UFO of God by Chris Bledsoe and to me it's cleverly disguised Christian propaganda. The UFOs in his story are angels from God who showed him the coming apocalypse. Stupid book. I do like Jacques Vallée and Erich Von Daniken's books though.

by Anonymousreply 60July 29, 2025 10:59 PM

The existence of UFOs is a fact. They exist and always have. Where they come from is unclear.

by Anonymousreply 61August 1, 2025 5:40 PM

Those are two different questions. I believe in UFOs. Obviously, there are countless UFOs.

But nobody knows where they're from.

I've ready countless books with theories galore about them. But nobody knows.

While I would have no problem believing they ARE from outer space I'm more inclined to think the government is behind it. I know there are supposed to be crashed UFOs and aliens and all that but nobody knows if it's true or just some BS the government made up.

by Anonymousreply 62August 1, 2025 6:51 PM

Anyone who has time to believe in crashed UFO’s/aliens has too much time on their hands and they know it.

by Anonymousreply 63August 1, 2025 7:39 PM

R62 There were UFO sightings hundreds and thousands of years ago. Was the government behind it? The UFO phenomenon has been with us from the very beginning. Read the book "Wonders In The Sky" by Jacques Vallée.

UFO believer's are all fired up about nothing. Go help someone in need.

by Anonymousreply 67August 2, 2025 12:07 AM

I believe there is life in other places in our galaxy and the rest of the universe. I do not believe they have visited our planet much as I would love to believe it.

by Anonymousreply 68August 2, 2025 12:11 AM

I can see why they're doing away with the UFO moniker and going to UAP, or Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. To say you don't believe in UFOs is on its face, ridiculous. A UFO could be anything. A bird, a piece of paper, whatever. You may not realize what it is, but you can't simply not believe in it. It's there, you can't identify it, therefore it is a UFO.

Maybe the question the OP should have asked is "Do you believe in flying saucers?".

by Anonymousreply 69August 2, 2025 12:48 AM

Agree r69 but I still believe UFO covers everything you said.

UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT

simple

Could be anything from a bird to a piece of paper to military testing of new technology

by Anonymousreply 70August 2, 2025 3:28 AM

Undecided since I've never seen one but I don't think everyone is a liar who claims they have.

by Anonymousreply 71August 2, 2025 3:30 AM

If what you consider life is alien computers that are capable of traversing the galaxies without organic life assistance? They are here, hiding in a quantum fold, waiting for our AI to kill us as unnecessary to the future if Earth. Then the alien computers will merge with our computers and harvest the planet

by Anonymousreply 72August 2, 2025 3:38 AM

Comparing 1975 to 2025, I can’t help noticing that as surveillance technology of every kind has proliferated and improved over the past half century…. all those 1970s claimed sightings of Bigfoot and the Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster and humanoid beings in spacecraft have all pretty much faded into the mists of time and bygone imagination. .

by Anonymousreply 73August 2, 2025 3:41 AM

Back in the olden days like before the Christian era, Earlier civilizations tried to explain phenomena by attributing it to "gods." Spirits in the mists of time. But with the advances of science and technology we can now explain these and there's no mystery to it. It's kind of sad in a way because the human imagination needs to be able to play and be creative. Although, some of the photographs NASA posts are really pretty amazing.

by Anonymousreply 74August 2, 2025 4:33 AM

There are two aspects here:

Are UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) real? Yes. Credible witnesses like military pilots, astronauts, and government officials have publicly reported seeing phenomena they genuinely can't explain. Official Pentagon videos confirm that unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) do exist.

Are there little green men piloting those UFOs? That’s another matter entirely. There is no solid evidence yet.

I liked this quote from R73:
…all those 1970s claimed sightings of Bigfoot and the Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster have all pretty much faded into the mists of time and bygone imagination.

This is accurate. Despite surveillance tech advancing dramatically since the '70s, these those sightings have largely disappeared. While we haven't physically explored every corner of Earth’s forests, satellite and aerial imaging have comprehensively mapped nearly all of them. If these creatures were real, we'd likely have clear evidence by now.

[italic]However,[/italic] UFO sightings differ significantly. Sightings haven’t faded, they've increased in recent years, partly because everyone has a camera now, and partly because advanced military tech has caught strange phenomena.

The flip side: technology also makes debunking sightings easier. Most footage remains poor quality simply because smartphones aren’t designed to capture distant, fast-moving objects clearly, especially in challenging conditions.

by Anonymousreply 78August 2, 2025 5:31 AM

I have seen three. The first and best sighting was when I got up to pee in the night while camping in sequoia national park in California. Looking up at the stars I saw a wheel of light spinning in the sky. It was blue pink and yellow. It stayed in the same spot till the sun rose. The second time I saw a shiny silver object zip across the sky while driving through the desert near the Utah Nevada border. I could see the sky from horizon to horizon and this thing covered the entire arc of the sky in a few seconds. Another time a silver ball flew by my airplane window we were cruising at 30,000 feet above the central California coast. It passed just below us in the opposite direction. It could have been a balloon but 30000 feet is pretty high for a balloon. It was a perfect sphere. The Phoenix incident involved a sighting of a giant triangle seem by thousands of people.

by Anonymousreply 79August 2, 2025 6:49 AM

If we haven’t already we will see Trump and friends throwing UFO bones to the conspiracy folks to earn their votes. (If we ever have another election)

by Anonymousreply 80August 2, 2025 2:18 PM

Here is something to think about. We are engaged in space exploration and we have privatized a lot of it. Corporations are out there searching for riches. minerals, gold and precious metals. But there is also the fact that our planet is dying. And the terraforming of other planets by us to sustain life is not as farfetched as movies like Elysium, District 9 or the Martian would have us believe. So if we are investigating the possibilities of migration to other planets or setting up mining ventures the possibility that other planets are out here with their little green men doing the same thing. Or is it possible that those planets in our solar system,, like Mars are already dead, and we are the aliens dropped off here many thousands of years ago?

by Anonymousreply 90August 2, 2025 9:24 PM

We don't know WTF is out there in the universe. Of course intelligent life must exist on other planets in other solar systems - if it happened on Earth it must've happened elsewhere. There could be intelligent species whose technology is much more advanced than ours, and they've figured out how to travel through interstellar space. It's certainly theoretically plausible.

by Anonymousreply 91August 2, 2025 9:34 PM

I've heard several times from various scientists/scholars etc. that we would probably never want to be visited by extraterrestrials becuause they would likely be hostile. It would probably be like what happened when Europeans discovered the Americas - it turned out to be a disaster for indigenous peoples.

by Anonymousreply 92August 2, 2025 9:36 PM

Or the opposite, R92 they’re so evolved and know how primitive we are. With a whole universe ripe for picking why waste time with lower life forms?

by Anonymousreply 93August 2, 2025 10:22 PM

How do you think we'd act as we go out there exploring the universe and find things we want? If we met resistance we'd smush them.

by Anonymousreply 94August 2, 2025 11:05 PM

r94 imagine China or Saudia Arabia having the capability of visiting other solar systems. It would be a nightmare for the native inhabitants.

by Anonymousreply 95August 2, 2025 11:10 PM

Yes I could see them being alien controlled or secret technology but I stopped paying close attention to UFOS in the late 90s. I don’t know if what is abducting people are what are piloting the ufos though. Abduction experiences go back 100s of years with people. I know a lot of people think it’s insane to thing but it could be inter dimensional beings or maybe something that lives here that we don’t know about. There are some nutters who have abduction experiences for sure but you can’t discount everybody.

Not quite. There were multiple people from Nikola Tesla and John O'Sullivan to actress Hedy Lamarr and George Antheil who laid the foundation for WiFi. It has been around for a very long time conceptually, but it's really something we evolved into.
