What are the best Michael Crichton novels and stories?

I've seen a lot of the movies based on his books, but I haven't read any of his books besides JURASSIC PARK, which I liked a lot.

Coma was pretty thrilling, but I was 12 at the time I read it.

I remember sphere being cool. Again I was about 13

The Andromeda Strain

I love, love The Great Train Robbery

Coma was great and the movie was good. Almost impossible to find now though. It really could use a series remake though. Don't understand why no one's done one.

Jurassic Park, Sphere, Prey, Congo

Andromeda Strain made for a good book report in elementary school. I don't remember too much about it, but enjoyed it at the time.

They did, r5. Lauren Ambrose was the lead w Steven Pasquale and Richard Dreyfus. 2012.

Sphere is excellent. I read that a few times when I was younger.

The Jurassic Park book is way darker than the films. Some of the science in it is now outdated. The book sequel was obviously written to cash in on the film's massive success; it's quite different from the film sequel, but still a good read.

Airframe is also great. It's not as science-heavy as his others.

“ Coma” is Robin Cook, not Michael Crichton.

My bad. Thanks R9.

Coma and Timeline are the only two I have listened to on roadtrips.

Good for making the miles go by faster.

Congo

by Anonymousreply 12May 19, 2025 4:04 PM

Timeline- the book was better

Congo- the movie was better

I really liked “Jurassic Park”. Completely entertaining from start to finish.

I tried “Timeline” but the main character was written as such an archetypal Renaissance man who is a pro at everything he does and has no flaws, that I put it down.

Crichton went off on a right wing streak and published ridiculous shit like “State of Fear” where leftists create environmental terrorism to prove their climate change conspiracies.

Disclosure

I worked at a Barnes and Noble when “Disclosure” came out. It was published early in 1994, in paperback by September, and a movie by December.
