Dubai chocolate

Thoughts? It's basically just a Reese's made with pistachios, right? It is delicious.

by Anonymousreply 22May 19, 2025 9:51 PM

I think the NYT was hyping this recently

by Anonymousreply 1May 19, 2025 12:54 AM

I saw some at my local market just today - is it good? I assume it’s made by slaves?

"It's basically just a Reese's made with pistachios, right?"

No.

by Anonymousreply 3May 19, 2025 2:10 AM

It's very popular in Houston. I thought it was made by slaves in Dubai, too, but it seems to be made here.

by Anonymousreply 4May 19, 2025 2:12 AM

I was molested in Dubai.

by Anonymousreply 5May 19, 2025 2:22 AM

I think it lives up to the hype. Was skeptical also but it's really good. If you love pistachio, you'll definitely love it,

[quote] I assume it’s made by slaves?

You're thinking of Aunt Jemima.

Tried some in Dubai. It's weird. The filling is kind of like shredded pistachio with an almost hay-like texture. Didn't like it.

Child labor and slavery is notoriously commonplace in the cacao growing industry. Cacao is where chocolate comes from.

by Anonymousreply 9May 19, 2025 7:26 PM

Does white chocolate use white slavery or white slavers ?

by Anonymousreply 10May 19, 2025 7:55 PM

Pistachios are a delicacy in the M.E. on cakes chocolate, everything sweet

by Anonymousreply 11May 19, 2025 8:02 PM

Hazelnuts would be good as well.

by Anonymousreply 12May 19, 2025 8:05 PM

Someone sent it to me as a gift. Didn’t care for unique taste and textures so it was only so-so for me (though still nice gift though)

by Anonymousreply 13May 19, 2025 8:07 PM

Wow, I was LITERALLY just telling someone about this 2 minutes ago.

It's delicious but fucking expensive. At my local Shop-Rite, it's $11.99 for a bar.

by Anonymousreply 14May 19, 2025 8:32 PM

I like it but it's very rich.

by Anonymousreply 15May 19, 2025 8:36 PM

$11.99? Forget it. Above a certain threshold I'd prefer to go all-in at a local chocolatier where it's all homemade.

by Anonymousreply 16May 19, 2025 8:42 PM

The bar I got was $25. It's good, but not THAT good.

I enjoyed Dubai chocolate with a café au lait at the Louis Vuitton Café – Atlantis The Royal, Dubai. It cost 1,200 dirhams AED, or 320 USD.

by Anonymousreply 18May 19, 2025 9:10 PM

It looks like chocolate covered halavah.

by Anonymousreply 19May 19, 2025 9:11 PM

R9 No shit, Sherlock

by Anonymousreply 20May 19, 2025 9:46 PM

It's just regular chocolate (milk or dark) filled with a mixture of:

Pistachio cream – a smooth, nutty filling that’s bright green and

Knafeh -- hard to explain, it's kind of like shredded phyllo dough that's toasted and gives it a crunchy texture.

Tahini.

It's good but I don't see why people are losing their minds over it. Really depends on the quality of the chocolate.

There is some great Dubai chocolate at this place in Chicago.
