TIMES Article: Earlybirds, a roving dance party that ends by 10 pm, caters to 40 and 50-something women

Laura Baginski co-founded the Earlybirds dance party: "she’d always harbored a dream of hosting a dance party. It would be a safe, judgment-free zone geared toward women, trans and nonbinary people that would end before most clubs even open their doors, because — as the Earlybirds website now puts it — grown women “have things to do the next morning.” (Except the site uses a cruder word than “things.”)".

Saucy!

But it is important to have a safe space to dance.

"Holly Ferriera, a 55-year-old artist and belly-dancing teacher who wore a fascinator of her own design, said she typically goes dancing at gay clubs, where “you can just be yourself.” She echoed the thoughts of many attendees: “You need space to be free.”"

I don't know a single person who would ever attend such a gathering, nor would I want to.

If an R3 falls in the woods, would anybody know? Would anybody care?

I don't know about that whenever they have these Sadie Hawkins dances at the senior center there's always a broken hip or some other fracture!

[quote]..geared toward women, trans and nonbinary people

I’m guessing every other wirey, unkempt head of hair is dyed blueI and the dance floor has more pairs of open-toed sandals than a Birkenstock factory.

The stench of rancid patchouli oil and week old sweat comes through the screen when looking at the opening pic.

I actually would like this for older gay men minus the blue hair dye

by Anonymousreply 8May 18, 2025 8:45 PM

Well, I like blue. And even bluel.

by Anonymousreply 9May 18, 2025 9:15 PM

No thank you.

r4 would have called Studio 54 in 1979 to ask if it was a "safe space" and if they held space for non-binary people, before slamming down the phone and bursting into tears!

R11 must be older than dirt if he/she/it remembers Studio 54.

Didn't octogenarian fossils like David Geffen hang out there?

by Anonymousreply 12May 18, 2025 10:11 PM

I go to Oily Boids. Turkish wrestling.

I didn't say I remembered it, I was using it as a comic example of a famous nightclub that even the dullest knives here have probably heard of. Have you ever been to a nightclub?

Are you always such an exhausting bully? Your nasty ageism doesn't make me feel safe.

Is there a raffle for 25.00 gift card to Value Village?

by Anonymousreply 16May 19, 2025 12:14 AM

Do they all wear little red glasses?

by Anonymousreply 17May 19, 2025 12:30 AM

Ehhh, they're doing their own thing and not harming anybody. I am sure they'd feel out place going to a 20something club.

by Anonymousreply 18May 19, 2025 12:33 AM

What's that common observation about nudists?
