The Trump cold opening was weak.

What the hell is this whore wearing? (I mean Scarlett, not Wang, in this instance.)

Scarlett can't sing so why do they have her singing? This monologue just highlights the fact most of the cast has zero talent and zero charisma. Is there going to be a season 51?

When the commercials in between the sketches are more enjoyable than the show itself, that’s depressing.

The best thing they can do is for Lorne Michaels to announce his retirement and for the network to wipe the cast and writing staff clean over the summer.

Scarlett is good at this. Sadly the material is pretty mediocre so far.

I give props to Lorne for all he’s created and done with the show, but he’s sort of the TV producer version of his generation’s Washington politicians. No new ideas, just always stuck in the same idea cycles. Nothing about this show’s format ever changes, which I think it needs. But he just won’t go, and it holds back new creativity from being able to come in and jumpstart how they cast, write and do things.

I liked the opening and its acknowledging the entire cast, including the "trio" whose names couldn't be remembered.

The news 4 skit was good. Scarlett got the essence of the night time anchor adding puns to the serious stories.

Scarlett is great. It’s everything else around her that’s lesser.

My assessment of season fifty is that I’m tired of defending this show. It simply should be better than it is for all of the attention it receives.

Scarlett really is one of the more consistently solid-performing hosts through all an episode’s sketches in a long while. Jane, meanwhile, always looks constipated in every skit in which she appears.

Maybe what could help this show is to finally lose the last 30 minutes of its total 90 it inherited when taking over originally from Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show” NBC Saturday night lineup slot, and consolidate by producing less, but more solidly creative, content (?).

And they cut off the close of the show’s 50th finale-episode to air an ad?

Jane Wickline and Michael Longfellow are two of the most boring performers I have ever seen on this 50 year old show.

As someone said earlier, just fire everyone, including and especially Lorne Michaels, and start from scratch.

And replace those 30 minutes with what? More infomercials, Joel Osteen, another advertorial program like First Look or George to the Rescue?

A good producer should be able to fill a 90-minute show — 44 minutes of comedy — three times a month, 18 episodes a year, with more than a dozen performers and more than a dozen writers.

Add stand-up comics and new-talent segments if you need to, and why not — there's a ton of fodder to choose from online. The show sucks because Lorne Michaels and NBC are lazy.

I can let some things slide but I cannot let it go that, in the Victorian women’s sketch, they were all dressed head-to-toe in Regency fashions. That’s just lazy.

You guys! SNL makes tons of money for the network. Good, bad or indifferent, it’s here to stay as long as Michaels is alive at least.

The lesbian sex scene sketch was godawful.

I’m a fan of SNL but not of Scarlet Joho. This one put me right to sleep.

^ I hear what you’re saying, except that even though that’s the case that there’s the talent to re-innovate the show under someone else than Lorne, I just feel that at this point in the game nothing much would change even if Lorne left as regards NBC pushing to make the full 90 minutes more solidly good—in part, as you rightly point out IMO, the network’s (as well as Lorne’s longtime) laziness to change. That’s why I feel that consolidating the show just to 60 minutes would be a chance to block and present better-quality but shorter/stronger skits which would be more positively memorable and keep viewers coming back more eagerly.

And since I don’t care for anything that comes on NBC or its local station at that hour of early Sunday morning after “SNL,” I wouldn’t look for or miss whatever could replace a shortened show’s subsequently newly freed-up 30 minutes.

But, yeah, if they could sweep house and bring in a winning new production team on all levels with newly mixed up format lasting 90 minutes still, then more power to ‘em—and new great episodes and watching for us longtime fans to keep on looking forward to!

One of the worst shows this season.

Most changes would undercut the “LIVE” aspect of the skits - the errors help differentiate this from a taped sketch.

It’s why I’m glad they sparingly add cartoon funhouse or Don’t Shoot whatever… video content.

I believe Keenan will be made Lorne’s successor.I was worried it would be Tracey Morgan.

It had a few funny bits and Weekend Update was funny, especially the material Jost and Che sprang on each other.

So it was far from the worst show of the year. But what would DataLounge be without an absurd level of hyperbole?

Back in the day, I remember uninteresting people being called 'drips.' What I think of Jane in every sketch she is in. Waiting for her to do something.

I feel like if he had been paired with someone other than Che, Colin and his theoretical partner could be one of the best duos in the show’s history. Che is weak, which is why it’s Colin who l more typically interacts (well) with the guest commentators.

Look, let’s keep it real. They’re not changing shit. No worries. With the exception of the 50th anniversary special and a few skits on social media, I haven’t watched this show in several years and I DON’ T MISS IT!

That matchup countered the original criticisms of his preppy frat boy image vs previous hosts.

They've been doing it longer than any other pair in the history of the show.

The problem with Jane Wickline is she’s too one-note. Everything I’ve seen from her is the same (and it’s boring). Last week’s baby shoes sketch was probably the best thing she’s done all season.

I've never understood why Scarlett is considered a great beauty. To me, she looks and sounds like Miley Cyrus... and that's not a compliment!

There was a REALLY unflattering shot of the back and side of Scarlett’s thighs during the monologue. It showed lumps and cellulite. We all have it, but why go out in your panties to do a monologue?

Between this and Ms. Brunson’s too-tight dress, I think someone needs to introduce these gals to some girdles!

Does the show really make a lot of money for NBC/Comcast?

The show had a bloated budget… it’s said that once Lorne is gone the budget will be trimmed significantly.

Hating on SNL and trying to come up with yet another “witty” reason it should be canceled is an American pastime. It’s been that way for decades now and… SNL is still here.

You’d miss it if it was gone. It’s like a security blanket to me. Laughs are always up and down, but the ups are frequent enough.

Also LOVE that they moved it to 8:30 on the west coast.

Yes, R74 it’s a cash cow, regardless of whether the ratings are up or down. It still attracts a highly desirable demographic to advertisers.

And whatever they spend on union crew salaries, expensive sets that are ultimately never used, and good wigs (which are expensive, baby) it’s still cheap compared to any other NBC series, especially given the audience that is still drawn to it.

I like everyone on the current cast, with the possible exceptions of Jane and Ashley who are just too bland. Sara Sherman’s mullet works my nerves.

But the real problem is the writing. THE WRITING!

R76 Plus, the constant rotation of the cast keeps salaries low. By definition, it won’t have one or two leads who become so huge that the budget runs amok.

R77, I just pray Jo Anne Worley hobbles onto the set and punches Sara in the cunt. Jo Anne was annoying WAY before this snot failed to run down a leg.
