Pedro seems more beloved, but Johnny's been around forever and has a huge history in film. Even if his career is over, his legacy can't be erased. I'd take that over temporary fame.
Who is the bigger star right now: Johnny Depp or Pedro Pascal?

Who’s the bigger star right now - Jimmy Stewart or Austin Butler?

I'd take ascendance over legacy, personally. Especially if I were the star in question.

Odd question, OP.
Depp is forever, old school A-List. AND he got there without social media, which is worth a LOT.
He was also a hundred times more gorgeous than Pascal, back in his youth.
I really like Pascal, & will watch whatever he’s in, but EVERYONE responded to Depp quite positively, & he was absolutely beloved all in a way new & upcoming Hollywood stars no longer are.
Depp, DiCaprio & others are part of an era that we shall never see again, where social media didn’t exist, & actors actually had to be pretty fucking good at their craft, in order to remain in the game.

R1, obviously Jimmy Stewart, however, a 21 year old has no clue that Jimmy Stewart is a very rare, American treasure.
No one is eclipsing “It’s a Wonderful Life”, however, plenty will because obviously, the young folks don’t know & haven’t the sensibility for it.
That’s the way it works. In 30-50 years, most young folks will have no idea who Tom Cruise was either, even though he’s an A Plus list Hollywood movie star as I type.
We ALL come & go, A Listers included.

If you define "star" as someone who can get jobs and draw paying audiences right now, Pedro Pascal. Right now Johnny seems to have outlived his career potential.

r2 No, I'd prefer legacy because none of it will matter if 60 years but at least while you're alive you can know you were one of the best.

Sorry, but for me Pascal is nothing than a fifth-tier Benicio del Toro imitation.
One thing is that you star on a hit HBO series, but another very different is that you're actually a Hollywood star. I mean, most of the "Game of Thrones" dudes thought there were going to be the next IT boys on film industry (ie: Richard Madden), but failed miserably. Pascal won't be an exception.
There's no doubt Chris Rock was kinda right 20 years ago when, while hosting the Oscars, claimed that now Hollywood and the media keep pushing to the exhaustion just merely popular people as "MOVIE STARS".

Right now? Pedro of course.

Johnny Depp has the ability to create a different persona for every role. He literally reincarnates himself each time and it's not just makeup or prosthetics. We've not seen PP do that yet.
That said, I'd happily watch PP read the phonebook.

Is Pascal gay? Openly or closeted? He is new to me, a type and age, but seems rather charming and fun.

Pascal is all hype. I don't think he's even close to Depp's level.

Johnny Depp is circling the drain. He looks like a homeless dude digging through the trash and talking to himself.
