Eartha Kitt (1927 -2008)
Here's an interview with Eartha Kitt, from 1990, when she was 63. The interviewer is Sally Jesse Raffael, and actually does a great interview by staying quiet and letting Eartha talk. And what a story she tells (I could've listened to her for hours). She's quite fascinating in telling her life story.
I used to play her old music on CD throughout the 80s and 90s.
Kitt had a bit of a resurrection in her career in the 80s with the disco album 'I Love Men', and returned to B'way in the musical 'The Wild Party' in 2000. It's too bad she didn't do more Broadway in the 80s and 90s.
Anyone ever see her perform live, or on Broadway ? Anyone ever meet her ? Any experiences to share ?

She definitely was a singular sensation. I saw her in The Wild Party and she was wonderful.

Here's an interview she did on Whoopi's short-lived late night talk show in 1992-93 ("The Whoopi Goldberg Show") where she seems more casual and relaxed, telling different stories. She's really entertaining in her story telling.

I remember some DLer said he had sex with her. IIRC he was grossed out by her hairless vagina.

I saw her in the Wild Party on Broadway in late 2000. The show was odd, especially with rumors of Mandy Patinkin abusing everyone in the cast, particularly Toni Collette. Eartha was fabulous. A true legend back where she belonged. The audience went nuts after her second act number “When It Ends.”

I saw her as Carlotta in the West End production of Follies. Of course, her take on "I'm Still Here" was great.
