Former FBI Director James Comey under investigation for post seen as a potential threat to Trump's life
Several Trump allies accused Comey of calling for the president's assassination in a now-deleted Instagram post. He denied it was meant as a threat. The Department of Homeland Security and Secret Service are investigating a social media post by former FBI Director James Comey that several U.S. officials interpreted as calling for the assassination of President Donald Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Thursday.
In a now-deleted post on Instagram, Comey shared a photo of what he described as a "shell formation" on a beach that formed the numbers "8647." The post was swiftly condemned by administration officials, Republican lawmakers and Trump allies who said it blatantly targeted Trump, the 47th president of the United States.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, "eighty-six" can informally mean "to get rid of."
"Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of @POTUS Trump," Noem wrote on X. "DHS and Secret Service is investigating this threat and will respond appropriately."

A spokesperson for the Secret Service, which is part of DHS, said the agency "vigorously investigates anything that can be taken as a potential threat against our protectees."
“We are aware of the social media posts by the former FBI director and we take rhetoric like this very seriously. Beyond that, we do not comment on protective intelligence matters," Anthony Guglielmi, the agency's chief of communications said in a statement.
Taylor Budowich, a White House deputy chief of staff, accused Comey of putting out “what can clearly be interpreted as a hit on the sitting president of the United States.”

Um, what exactly are they investigating? No one thinks Comey himself will be attempting an assassination

So, if the shell formation had resembled 6-9-4-7, what would have happened? Aside from us all being sick, that is.

Like a handful of others, the time for Comey to have made a real difference was in 2016. But he purposely made a public announcement that the FBI had uncovered more Hillary emails and had reopened their investigation, given the intended appearance that there was something criminal coming up. When of course there wasn't. But kept secret the true fact about Trump and Russia.

There are many like R6 who blame Comey for Hilary losing to Drumpf in the 2016 election. But are there any, like me, who believe there was actual election interference and Comey was just used as the fall guy? I truly don't believe what Comey did made any difference. I also believe some corrupt higher-up FBI person strategically, deliberately set the scene for Comey - (and I believe Rudy Gouliani had his hand in it).
However, I cannot explain why Comey wouldn't have brought up the info on Trump/Russia.
I recall someone used to post on DL that claimed info about it and it sounded very plausible.

^THIS. Last I checked, it’s a term used by fucking restaurant workers for when a menu item is sold out. “86 the beef special!” Meaning cross it off the menu. They are getting both desperate and more aggressive.

Feb 29, 2024:
Donald Trump-devoted Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) on Wednesday was mocked for his gleeful response to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) decision to step down as the GOP’s Senate leader in November.
Gaetz boasted on X (formerly Twitter) about having “86’d” former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), outgoing Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel and now McConnell.

R22 - the Drumph moniker makes sense if you know its history, whether you think it makes sense or not. It's awful-sounding and fits in with his ancestors' slimy pasts as draft dodgers and brothel keepers.
[QUOTE]In 2011, the International Business Times repeated an unverified claim that Donald Trump's paternal grandfather Frederick Trump changed his name from Drumpf to Trump, possibly to avoid anti-German sentiment popular at the time.

I’m torn because I despise Comey. But ordinarily a situation like this, if it were investigated at all, would probably end with a wrist slap if that. Comey’s real problem is whoever is investigating this will appease Trump, not uphold the first amendment. Their ass is on the line as much as Comey’s if they don’t get him indicted.

What's happening with Comey is gonna happen again and again and again. Yes they'll be investigated, (though barely). No charges will be brought.
These are the same tactics they were using that led to the 1st (?) impeachment. (I get so much confused now).
More important is the announcement of an investigation, rather than the investigation itself. To scare others away from speaking out. Intimidation to the nth degree, as much as they can push it.
And along the way, some will probably capitulate out of fear, (are you reading this, MJ?), and offer praise for Dear Leader, as we slowly but surely are stepping into totalitarianism.

Anonymous shell-formations could really take off now that the president has publicised the hobby. The BBC News page helpfully shows Comey's beach image, for illustrative purposes.

My impression after reading up on all that happened in 2016 is that Comey is stupid, seriously stupid, when he gets out of his narrow lane. Dumb as a slug.
Not that that would stop Trump World from seizing on this and milking it for all it’s worth. But I think it’s extremely likely Comey was clueless about the potential fallout from him posting that image.

Comey has a right to exercise his freedom of speech. Which he's doing.
However, when retiring from public service, there were many options he could have chosen for his next career. Options other than published author of "fiction", options that wouldn't have opened him to public scrutiny.
