‘The Roses’ (2025) starring Benedict Cumberbatch & Olivia Colman looks AMAZING

She's too ugly and he's too hot. They don't make a believable couple.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 15, 2025 5:55 PM |
Isn't she a whole lot older than he is? 50s versus 40s, I would think.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 15, 2025 5:57 PM |
This. Looks. Awful.
And what is up with Olivia's hair?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 15, 2025 5:57 PM |
Olivia Colman is 51, Benedict Cumberbatch is 48. Not much of an age difference.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 15, 2025 5:59 PM |
He will be 49 this year and she turned 51 this year r3
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 15, 2025 5:59 PM |
R5 Yikes. She's aging poorly. I thought she was surely approaching 60.

Ugh gross overrated Kate McKinnon is in this movie.

Wow, I didn't think he was that old. He looked very young for his age for a long time. He could pass for mid-twenties when he was nearing 40. But age did catch up with him.
Olivia, on the other hand, is someone who's been playing mothers for a couple of decades.

OK, it looks like it's well done and I like the eye candy of the house and setting, but I would never watch this in a million years. To me, there is nothing interesting, let alone funny, about a divorcing couple engaged in all-out war the point of violence
I (R3) will say that there doesn't appear to be any age difference between them. He's craggy, she's cute, and that's about that.
Did she get her teeth done? She used to have a gummy smile.

They both have very good track records in comedy, so I have high hopes for this.

I do not have high hopes for this after seeing that.
I saw this on her upcoming filmography a couple of months ago and was anticipating this trailer. I never read the book so I don’t know how closely the 1989 film follows it. This looks like an absolute mess.

I’ve honestly had more than sufficient of Brit’s, Irish and Aussies headlining and stacked in American film. Seriously. Enough already.

It all looks exhaustingly ditzy zany cute and unbelievable. But I wouldn't mind seeing BC and OC in some other more nuanced marital drama, they're a plausible couple. Maybe they should do 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf' onstage, sell-out guaranteed. The billing for this is interesting though - she first, him higher - no doubt the result of much agenting bartering. Evidently suitable for the tone of the work in question.

You should never remake a good movie. Remake a bad one and fix it.

No.

They should have hired Kathleen Turner to play the sleazy Danny Devito lawyer character. That's the only way I'd watch this piece of shit.

God, does Colman have a stellar career, or what. Just watched her on a Sundance video on another DL thread, promoting the "gay dad" production she's doing with Lithgow. She continues to be absolutely everywhere. To think that I (and many of us) first saw her getting on a double-decker bus on "Peep Show."

Unbelievable. British people with the ability to live in another country in this era -- why would they still be here?

I have enjoyed both actors in the right type of role, but this falls flat for me. The trailer leaves no desire to see more and it all seems smug with mock charm.
I prefer the jaw dropping sort of humor of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? that knocks the air out of your lungs to this cutesy mugging that generates at best a nervous little titter about these two characters with no chemistry at their core.

For the longest time I thought of Coleman as "that lady from Hot Fuzz". I discovered Peep Show pretty late.

I wonder...who is the intended audience for this movie?
"Cause it ain't me.

Shit, I got half way through before realizing it was a war of the roses remake. while I liked the original, a remake was definitely not needed.
These two are odd to imagine as a couple whereas Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas had alot of chemistry together.

I love Olivia Colman in anything, so I’ll see this. Not sure why she’s so hated here. Is it because she beat Glenn for the Oscar?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 16, 2025 10:27 AM |
She’s plays all her characters like she is a hysterical 60-year-old virgin.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 16, 2025 10:34 AM |
She’s hired because they want her to play her roles like that. See how it works?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 16, 2025 2:29 PM |
OP must be a woman, DL will HATE this. "The world of heterosexuals' ..."
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 16, 2025 2:43 PM |
They would not cast Kathleen Turner now cos she looks like shit
