Worst/weirdest music videos of all time?

It’s easy to go right for Billy Squier’s “Rock Me Tonight” as it’s a walking target. lol.

But for me, the weirdest has to be Billy Ocean’s “Loverboy” which has no connection to the song and is just bizarre.

Enjoy.

R1, that was indeed bizarre. Though as a 12 year old, I loved all the guys.

Frankie's Relax was pretty far out there - like what the fuck is going on? Arrives on a rickshaw, fat guy takes off his toga and pisses on people? Then he's wrestling with a tiger. Then I presume he takes drugs and his eyes starts rolling back in his head. Later I learned it was supposed to be a take on his first visit to a gay bar. Ooookayyy.

I still can't believe this was shown in 1984.

I used to see this on MTV back in the day when it showed showed, you know, music videos. I don't recall the long intro this video has; MTV must have cut that part out.

I love this song and the video is definitely an homage to the older 'wtf' videos that were sometimes made. I get a big kick out of the video and I had a dog who also loved this song

The video "Total Eclipse of the Heart" makes zero sense and it haunted the corners of my psyche for many years when I was a kid. Watching it now gives me a lot of pleasant nostalgia, though. It reminds me of being home with my parents as a kid and VH1 blaring on our TV.

The music video for "Video Killed the Radio Star" (famously the first music video ever broadcast on MTV) is also extremely bizarre. Thematically it sort of makes sense, but there are a lot of weird elements, such as the woman dancing in the tube that make me feel like I'm on acid.

Wait a minute. No one posted this DL gem… which one is the video shot in Chicago and features that woman in a limo singing badly? Whoever does imagine me however you want “compensating” you.

R6 Well, in a way it wasn't. .. There's a whole history about that song and video. The video you put up was banned by both MTV and the BBC. The band had to do produce another video for the song that is often referred to as the "Laser Beam" version (below). Wiki says that, at some point, the BBC banned the song entirely. And there would be no appearance on Top of the Pops when it reached No. 1. Instead they made the announcement and held up a photo of the band.

I've never seen the video at R20. In America, they played this one, with all the little girls storming the stage to jump on Holly. You'd never get away with that today.

R26, you don’t? Were you around in 1984? Things were very homophobic and a rock star prancing and dancing in pastels and rolling around- it was something.
