It was many years before I realized that Nancy actually sang the lead on this song, because her voice so much resembled her sister's to me. I felt like an idiot for not being able to distinguish them. She apparently recorded it while she was recovering from a flu, which gave her voice a bit of raspiness that is not normally there. It always went without saying that Nancy was also a very good singer, but this really showcases her range and is one of the band's best songs IMO.
Nancy Wilson's vocal performance in Heart's "These Dreams"

Ann's powerhouse vocals always stood at the forefront of the band, but I've always felt that Nancy was the real backbone in terms of versatility. She is an EXCELLENT guitarist. I've played guitar since I was a teenager, and have always admired her playing. The bitch could play circles around most people, and her supporting vocals in the band were really underrated.

I wanted to see them in February here in Vancouver but the promoter wanted an extra $36 on top of all the other fees included in concert tickets now.

Did I mention Heart got their start/major break in Vancouver? Mushroom Studios.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 14, 2025 8:50 AM |
I liked it.

"White skin in linen"
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 14, 2025 11:10 AM |
It's a lovely song and their first of two #1s. (second was "Alone") And I'm pretty sure that while Nancy did almost all the lead vocals, Ann is the one who belts out "every MOOO-MENT I'M AWAKE!" in the chorus. That voice just has to be Ann.
But yeah.. Nancy was more versatile and talented than recognized.

Are they still not speaking?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 14, 2025 12:34 PM |
R13, apparently they patched things up enough to tour together again, but it's still a bit fraught.... and, like the rest of their generation, the Wilson sisters are becoming elderly.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 14, 2025 12:39 PM |
Why did they their relationship become strained in the first place?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 14, 2025 1:08 PM |
Ann singing from a wheelchair... That's something I could have lived the rest of my life without seeing.
I prefer to remember the Heart of my high school years, back when we were all young and cute. They were incredible.
That time will never come again.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 14, 2025 1:15 PM |
Same, senior lesbian.
It's not just the wheelchair, she's pitchy and can't really hit any of those peak power notes anymore. Ann was a legendary voice in rock. One of the best. Heart should have folded it up last year when Ann had to go through chemo. She turns 75 next month.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 14, 2025 1:24 PM |
R4 Why is she in a wheelchair?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 14, 2025 1:26 PM |
R19 apparently she fell and broke her elbow in multiple places and there's chronic pain and balance issues. And that's after chemo and cancer surgery.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 14, 2025 1:30 PM |
R20 Poor thing.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 14, 2025 1:32 PM |
Didn't Ann's dog bite Nancy's son or some such shenanigans?
Or Nancy's son accidentally let Ann's boyfriend's dog run away and the boyfriend got really nasty about it?
Anyways, it's something about a dog and Nancy's son.
I just can't imagine going out on stage every night with a sibling for whom you hold so much resentment toward. (See also: Donny and Marie.)
Well, I guess if it pays the bills.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 14, 2025 1:33 PM |
Ann’s husband slapped both of Nancy’s sons because they left the doors open in the tour bus and their dogs escaped. Apparently it wasn’t the first time they had done it, and Ann’s then new husband slapped them. Nancy had him arrested and the sisters didn’t speak for a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 14, 2025 1:38 PM |
I thought they made Ann look very cool in the Alone video (even though they were just trying to cover up her weight).

r23 Ann's husband certainly looks like the kind of man who would slap teenagers. And by slap I mean murder.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 14, 2025 2:03 PM |
R25, wow. Ann could do so much better. She looks great in that pic.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 14, 2025 2:06 PM |
It's been my favorite Heart song since the first time I heard it way back then. Years later, I was surprised to learn who sang it, too.
From a YT channel I enjoy, here's a video I watched just recently.

Wow, the husband at R25 looks like he's dead and still waiting to be buried.
Ghoulish!

R28, he's clearly Ghouliani's brother.

Let’s not sleep on Ann’s duet with Loverboy’s Mike Reno on Almost Paradise.
Gave me something to sing that summer.

These Dreams and Alone are my 2 least favorite Heart songs. Magic Man and Crazy on you are my 2 favorites . I do wish theyd give it up though . Dont ruin a fabulous legacy .

That picture of Ann and her gorgeous hubby is nearly a decade old- Can you imagine what the old goblin looks like now?
One of my favorite songs of Nancy's is a very much forgotten song called Strangers of The Heart from either that first or second album from their mid 80's resurgence (I think Bad Animals)
I love that song and her vocal. She has a very pretty and serviceable voice- I really find her underrated-
I even love the Brigade album- it just has some kick ass songs. (I do hate All I Want To Do though- always hated that one)
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 14, 2025 8:49 PM |
"All I Wanna Do I Make Love To You" is so deliciously awful. I love the vertical stretch effect on Ann's shots. It tricked everybody into thinking Ann lost weight. Well, not really, but that was the intention. Somewhat surprised to see it's their 2nd most popular video, after the iconic "Alone".
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 14, 2025 8:56 PM |
Saw them in 2019 and one of the best concerts I’ve seen.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 14, 2025 9:26 PM |
R33, I know they hate that song but I can't help it, I like it!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 14, 2025 10:31 PM |
Concrete Blonde's "Joey" always sounded like it could have been a Heart song
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 14, 2025 10:44 PM |
ALL I WANNA DO is the stuff of nightmares. It inspired my high school girlfriend to demand sex and so we did. And it was awful.

Lyrical genius:
He brought the woman out of me
So many times, easily
And in the mornin' when he woke
All I left him was a note
I told him I am the flower, you are the seed
We walked in the garden, we planted a tree
Don't try to find me, please don't you dare
Just live in my memory, you'll always be there

I much prefer '70s-era Heart to their '80s big hair ballad era. A lot of their big hits in the '80s—"Alone", "These Dreams", and "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You"—were covers and/or written by other people.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 15, 2025 12:56 AM |
I love Heart, but "All I Wanna Do" is awful. I never listen to it. Ann hated it, but she knew it would be a big hit so she only did it for the $$$.

R33 After seeing Varla Jean Merman's version of this video, I can never watch the Heart version again without laughing.

Hi OP,
Have you heard Nancy Wilson sing “There’s the Girl?”
Off the Bad Animals album, like 1987. The track after Alone. To me, her best song.
I’ve seen Heart about 4 times. They are all over it. I have a couple stories but I’m sleepy now.
Have to say Ann Wilson one of the greatest ever.
Thanks for the thread

I agree most of their 80s output was a bunch of schlock.
But the 70s were so brilliant. Love them
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 15, 2025 2:44 AM |
I didn't realize the incident with Nancy's son was so recent and so violent. Grabbing someone by the throat and squeezing for 5 seconds until the can't breathe is scary.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 15, 2025 3:20 AM |
Ann’s husband sounds like a psycho. If I had children and my sibling’s spouse did something like that to my kids, I’d be irate. There’s no excuse for that, especially over some stupid fucking dogs accidentally getting let out of a trailer.

Nancy is very talented and also seems very humble.
